[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, got you. Yes the s4 is going to stay on line 2. I did it thru the Verizon website.

The other person was making it sound like going from a 3g phone such as the iPhone 4s, to a 4g phone such as the s4 made a difference in how you did it

Again thanks

There is a phobia in using the included SIM card. But that is only when using the Best Buy method because when ordered through Best Buy the SIM appears to be pre-activated with your account / telephone line so when you insert it it will complete the activation. This messes up the Best Buy method that is based on avoiding that last step. With Verizon the SIM isn't pre-programmed to your account but not only that since you are activating it on the line you ordered the phone there is no problem using the SIM that comes with the phone.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am getting ready to upgrade my phones and am wondering if the Best Buy strategy will work for me. Here is my situation:

1. 2 iPhone 4s phones that are currently off contract. Both lines have UDP. No other phones on the account.

2. I understand the iPhones have SIM cards but they are NOT of the nano variety. How does my situation fit with the Best Buy strategy as the next phone I order will require a nano SIM card. Furthermore, the 4s is not an LTE phone whereas the next phone will be an LTE phone. Will this cause an issue? Can I cut the micro to the nano size? But even if this works, it will lock me into 3G and not LTE correct?

3. Am I better off, adding a line to my account and transferring the UDP to that line and finally ending with a dumb phone on the new line. I would like to avoid this hassle if I can.

Thanks.

I would do what cnotes suggested. Borrow or purchase a phone online. If you purchase and resell on something like Craigslist it might not cost you any money.

If you do the 3rd Line you will have a third upgrade. You could always get a phone just to sell and use that money to pay for the third line.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Last night I finally had the other line's phone in my hands (iPhone 5) so I went ahead and turned it off as well as the new G3. I then placed the new SIM (that came with the G3) back in the phone and went through the activation process on VZ's website. The G3 came up as the other line and worked fine. Next, I turned the G3 off and re-activated the iPhone 5 on the website. Again, the iPhone came up just fine with its original number.

Now the G3 is basically free. I took the full size SIM out of my Bionic and cut it down, carefully. This was the riskiest part really as I was concerned about the knife slipping, etc.! I got it down to the right size and placed it into the G3, WITHOUT ACTIVATING IT ON VZ's WEBSITE, and VOILA! I now have a new subsidized G3 on my UDP! Very happy camper :)

When you say borrow or purchase a phone online, do you mean for the SIM card? So it will have to have a nano card correct?

Yes you need a phone that you can activate the SIM card from Verizon. Probably best to get one the same size. If not you can try to get the nano from Verizon and buy an adapter from amazon to make it micro or mini size. You could always cut a SIM down to nano size from the other sizes.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone done this with Amazon?
I have three lines
1. Line has UDP due for upgrade
2. Line has UDP due for upgrade and want to use the upgrade for this line
3. Basic phone (dummy phone) upgrade until late of 2014

So basically what I need to do is transfer the upgrade from line 2 to 3 and then use the old sim card from #2. Is this correct and I want to confirm if this has been done with Amazon since the LG3 is for $99 + tax.

Don't think you can transfer upgrades on Amazon.

I guess my only options are best buy and verizon with a transfer. Best buy doesn't have the LG G3 available for ship to home and verizon price when up to $199.

You just missed the sale, Sunday was last day g3 was $99.

Have you been on Amazon website? I'm not completely sure you can't transfer upgrades on Amazon, but don't think you can. If your dealing with unlimited data do some research x but haven't seen any loop holes that includes Amazon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Is there a way as of now to get the G3 with UDP without waiting for Best Buy to ship? I've got 4 phones on my plan: My DNA with UDP, 2 tiered iPhones and a dummy phone with the upgrade I was going to use.

Use the upgrade on the dummy phone to purchase the g3

Thanks. Is there another forum post that walks through that process? I did some googling for a "2nd line method" but came up empty handed.

Go to Verizon or best buy and Upgrade dummy phone to the G3. Swap the phone where you want it, drop data put dumb phone back on line. This is not loophole and you can go to a Verizon store and have them do it all for you. You will probably need access to the dumb phone.

The loophole is when you transfer an unlimited line upgrade to the dumb line and get the Phone.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok so I bit the bullet.

The plan, ordered new subsidized phone from best buy renewing my udp contract.

Receive phone, remove sim card, sell simless phone on eBay and recoup some of the money I spent on the phone I just got for full(ebay) price.

I just hope when the buyer activates the phone with another SIM it doesn't somehow affect my UDP.

I'll let yu know how it goes.

So you used the upgrade to sell the phone and make some bucks? If so and you worried about losing UDP don't worry since you took out the sim that came with it.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just got a M8 from Amazon today and the trick works for them too. I just popped in my old sim card and it's all activated now with UDP still in effect.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Say amazon catches on and switches it to the 2gb plan (from the UDP)....has anyone had any luck with getting verizon to give you the 6gb 'max' plan after you've been switched to the tiered plan? Question could apply to those who upgraded through vzw and didn't realize they'd lose the UDP.
