[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So for anyone who's simply just upgraded their phone online, and then just swapped the sim from their UDP line to the new phone, no one has had a problem, ie, their UDP suddenly kicks out, etc?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I upgraded UDP line to get note 4 on 6gb max plan. Foolishly attempted to activate the new sim but it failed twice due to insufficient coverage. Decided it was their fault and put in old sim from gs3. As of today still UDP and account is pending activation. Hesitant to trade in old phone now at the retail store as I don't want em snooping on my account. No $299 charge on account either. Ordered n4 over the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

hey man this is what you do. call verizon tell them your friend gave you a phone and you just need a nano sim card. they'll ship one to you for free.

buy this Nano Sim Card to Micro Standard Adapter Adaptor Converter Set for iPhone 5 4S 4 | eBay

it costs $1. Stick that new nano sim in the adapter and activate it on your current phone with UDP. tranfer the upgrade and when you recieve the phone take out the sim card and now stick in your new nano sim card from your UDP phone.

this WORKS! i just did it, twice on my account.

the activation lock will drop in two weeks.

I ordered that Nanosim adapter off ebay, and called Verizon for the Nanosim today. The rep on the phone wasn't sure which nanosim I would need. Is there a particular phone I could say that I'm getting so that he would know which nanosim to send me? He asked me which phone my 'friend was giving me' and I didn't know how to respond. I think he was newer as well, so if I call back that might not be a problem. But what is the newest phone on Verizon that would use the same nanosim as the Nexus 6, so that I could call and mention that? Does the HTC One M8 use a Nanosim, and if so would it be the same one?

Thanks in advance!

2 months after after doing the BestBuy method (swap old SIM for new SIM) to keep my UDP I still have UDP and all is working well

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

He is not getting a phone on the dumbphone line, he is transferring it to a 2GB line.

I understand that. Isn't he asking if he can use his dumb line to get a smartphone and transfer it to the tiered line? From my understanding when he goes to select a phone he will only be presented with dumb phones unless he ops to change that line to a tiered line.

He is not getting a phone with the dumbphone line. He is transferring a upgrade from that line to another. The problem is if you transfer a upgrade from a UDP to a dumbphone line and get a phone with that line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok guys, I'm sure this has been asked by now, but just curious what my current best/safest/least risky option would be to get myself upgraded to the Note 4 on Verizon and keep unlimited data. Here's my current situation:
1.) My line (primary) = unlimited data, up for renewal
2:) Mother's line = additional family line, "dumbphone" no data plan
She doesn't care about her upgrade so wondering if I should order her upgrade online and have it shipped to the house and just swap my SIM card into it before opening or just do the Best Buy Method with my line and do the same? Will they upgrade her to a data plan if I never activate it with the new sim?

The only other catch to this is I can't seem to see Best Buy offering online ordering any longer for the Note 4, do you think it will come back online for order?

Any advice would be much appreciated! :-)

See I was under the assumption that you were not able to select a smart phone when transferring an upgrade from a dumb line. To my surprise, I just went through the steps on myverizon and sure enough it let me transfer to one of my teired lines. So doing it this way, my dumb line will stay as a basic line but get the new two year contract, activate the new phone on the tdp line then switch back to the original phone on the tdp line and activate the new phone on my UDP line. I may go this route, or would you suggest using my upgrade on my UDP line while we all know we still can?

You mean transfer from the UDP line in your last sentence? If so either will work, it doesn't matter which phone you transfer from. Just which line you upgrade.

Yep, transfer my upgrade from UDP to a TDP line. I'm thinking I should do this while I can and while we all know it works.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all. I was at a Verizon store yesterday (NOT a corporate store) and the manager told me he could keep my UDP and get me the Note 4 with the $200 off right in store with the trade in of any working smartphone. He specifically mentioned swapping the SIM from my Galaxy S3. Is there any reason not to do this method? To recap, when I pre-ordered at BB, a notice came up on the monitor that I'd lose my UDP if I used the upgrade, so I did not do the pre-order there. Thanks again for all of the help I've received here!

I wouldn't do it in any store. No doubt that I'm sure he could do it for you, I've had a friend do a upgrade in a store and the guy let him keep his UDP.

But I still wouldn't trust anybody in a store, not to mention what could happen if the manager there or Verizon found out this guy was doing it. A dirty employee doesn't normally keep out of trouble.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks again, tx_tuff -- I appreciate your help very much! Just to clarify this guy IS the manager of the store. How about if he sold me the phone and I took it home and did the SIM swap myself? Or would you just avoid the store altogether and order online through BB? My only concern about BB is that when I tried to do the pre-order there, the computer monitor indicated I'd lose my UDP by getting the upgrade. But maybe shipping it to my house would be different.

From what I have been reading everybody gets that message with BB. Myself I wouldn't use that store, but in no means am I saying it won't work or the guy can't do it. Do its really just up to you. Like I said I do know it had been done before by a friend.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Tx_tuff, I owe you a virtual beer or something!

I have a friend with an upgrade available who wants a Galaxy s4 that I can buy off contract for about $250. Now I have to decide whether to roll the dice and get the Note 4 on my line and risk getting caught by Verizon (no or down the road) or buy him the s4 and get my Note 4 on his line and swap. That's the safest (but a lot more expensive!) path.

Thanks again to tx-tuff!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi guys. I just ordered note 4 under my wife's TDP line (family plan) . I want to do the swap so that I can keep the unlimited on my line. So what's the next step? I haven't powered on the phone. Do I put her old Sim card in the phone and activate, then deactivate, activate her old phone, then put my Sim card in and activate?

Just activate it on her line. Then online or her old phone back on her line, freeing up the new phone. Then add the new phone to your line. This method does not require you change any SIM cards.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks. So I should just put away or destroy the Sim card it came with, correct? Just use her old one for the activation.

You can use the one that came with it with this method. But if you don't want to you don't have to.
