[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Somewhat off topic: Can I add more minutes to my plan without losing my Unlimited?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This is probably a dumb question, but where do I check to see if I have any pending activations? I don't see anything on the main page of my VZW account.

Try switching devices on your line and you'll find out there.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Been about 22 days since I did the BB method and pending activation is still showing on mine FYI.

This what I am concerned about pending activation falling off some people are experiencing days and others weeks/months until it falls off. Could Verizon then comeback and say you renewed on a contract but we don't offer this anymore you must change it? Also does this work on any Android and iPhone as well? My scenario is iPhone and Android both have UDP and upgrade eligible. Following the procedure of Purchase Online/Ship/Swap VIOLA! Correct? Using the BB method is so beneficial cost wise, I use a lot of data and to lose it would be sad to loose it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You are always taking a chance... but most likely they would have a hard time taking away your unlimited unless they close the loophole to everyone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Was in the Verizon store today trading in an old phone for the Turbo I ordered, this rep was nice though. So I told him about one of his co-workers telling people that upgrading any line will remove the UDP. He then told me that is what they were told would happen. So, the question is: are the reps covering themselves saying that, or is it a change coming down the pipeline?

I don't see how they could legally change your plan when upgrading a different line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

He tried claiming something about it being any account change automatically gets forced off unlimited, then he admitted he didn't know for sure. Since I was in a good mood and was just given $100 for a barely working phone I told him it worked for me to upgrade and kept unlimited and walked away.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

For the Best Buy method, does it have to be the primary phone on the account? I've seen it stated before that it had to be the primary line on the account but I've gone through a mock order with one of the other lines, my son's and got all the way to the last step of completing the order and everything looks the same? Seems like I could complete the order and when it comes just take the SIM from my son's old phone with UDP line and put it in the new phone. If you can't order on one of the secondary UDP phones at what step does it mess up? Also seems that with Best Buy you avoid the $30 activation fee.

BestBuy method works with the non-primary lines also.

My line was a secondary line. Though the checkout process showed a $35 charge for activation no such charge was ever added to my bill. It has been 4 months since I upgraded, and kept the UDP

voodoo or heath - Was this ever resolved? I had the same issue where I was on UDP (upgrade eligible) and transferred my upgrade to a TDP line. I ordered a phone and activated it on the TDP line using the SIM that was provided. Waited for a bit then saw when logging into 'My Verizon' that the the newly ordered phone was showing on the TDP line.

However, on my UDP line, it is still showing as upgrade eligible. Does this get changed after a billing cycle? I would actually prefer to have my UDP show a renewed contract date so my data is not throttled.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

How long has it been since you did yours?
I did mine online on VZW web site on Wednesday. I got the phone on Thursday and tried to activate it on the transfered TDP line twice but it came back with an error and would not activate. I then went online on my account and used the supplied SIM card and activated it on my UDP line. Here it is 3 days later and I still have my UDP and am still show an upgrade on my line.
On a side note a while back I did an upgrade and had the same thing happen. About a month later was looking at my account and saw I still had an upgrade on that same line. I'll let you guess how that turned out ;)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My upgrade date was changed as soon as I activated the phone. I activated it on the tiered, then called and had them do the device switching online to get it on the UDP. I still have a pending activation on the UDP.

I'm pretty sure they didn't go through with the off contact throttling, but I'm usually under 1GB usage anyway, so it wasn't a concern for me.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Heath - So you have experienced another separate instance where you transferred upgrade from UDP to another line and the UDP still showed 'eligible upgrade' so you got a second subsidized phone without having to do anything?

It's been about 24 hrs since I activated the new phone on the TDP line (using the sim provided when the phone was purchased)

**edit for Voodoo's response**

Voodoo that is what I did as well. Activated new phone on the TDP line using the sim it came with, sent a few txts to verify it was active, logged into 'My Verizon' to verify it was showing the new phone active on the TDP line, but my UDP line still shows 'upgrad eligible'

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Last time I showed an upgrade a month after doing an upgrade was on a dumb phone line that I transfered to my UDP line to upgrade. This was back when you could do that without having to keep a data plan on that dumb phone line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think my situation is simple, but naturally I am a little paranoid. I want to upgrade from a D4 to a S5 on a UDP using the Best Buy method. I'm clear about the "ship to home" and "don't use the new phone's SIM card" elements. But I went through the BB online order process, I got almost to the end and a VZN "Customer Agreement" popped up that I would have to accept to complete the order. Down in the middle of the Agreement, it says, "If you change your device or receive a Service promotion, you may be required to change your Plan to one that we are currently offering at that time." Does that mean VZN will change my UDP as soon as I try to change the device?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As long as you selected keep current plan on one of the prior screens, you should be okay. As far as I know, that's a generic warning that pops up because they expect people to use the included SIM.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Last week when I posted I stated incorrectly. Looked at Sticky have Question on best method to use, this my scenario
1 UDP available for upgrade
1 UDP available for upgrade
1 basic line under contract.

Which is the best suggested method for upgrade and keeping my unlimited data for my scenario?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just wanted to see if someone can confirm this is the best way to go about my upgrades:
Line 1 - 4G phone , UDP, Upgrade Available
Line 2 - iPhone 4s 3G, UDP, Upgrade Available

Scenario 1: If I want to upgrade both phones simultaneously without hassle of SIM cards, etc. then just use FAM (227608-instruction-how-keep-unlimited-data-verizon-164.html#post3637419) whereby I use line 1 upgrade to get phone that line 2 wants to use and vice versa. I'm assuming that this method still works - if anyone knows anything to the contrary please let me know.

Scenario 2: If I only want to upgrade line 2 (from iPhone 4s to iPhone 6), then call Verizon and tell them I need a nano SIM for a third party iPhone 6 that I purchased. When it arrives, go online to VZ to activate. Do BB method and use line 1 info/upgrade to get subsidized phone for line 2. When phone arrives, destroy SIM and then use nano SIM. Turn phone on. Do I need to get an intermediary phone first to use Verizon's nano SIM or is there an advantage to using an intermediary?

Thanks in advance!

I would either do the regular Best Buy method or Snkydvl Method:

1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on your UDP line before you order;
2) Log onto Verizon and transfer your UDP line's upgrade to a basic line;
3) Order the new smartphone you want on the basic line and select a 2GB plan;
4) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with without turning it on or plugging it in; and
5) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on your UDP line into the new smartphone and turn it on.

That was copied from the wiki on the slickdeals.net thread.
