[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I want to upgrade my UDP line and get either Note 4 or S6 but my current phone (droid Incredible-original) does not have a Sim card to swap. Is there any way for me to do that?

I don't know if it matters, but I have a 2 lines
Line 1- HTC incredible-original UDP upgrade available
Line 2- droid X UDP upgrade available

thanks.

It won't affect the tiered line upgrade date at all. You wife's line will be extended because that is where the upgrade originated from.
Thanks! You've been so helpful!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have used the Best Buy method however I have a problem trying to do it this time. The line I want to have the phone currently has a nano sim card. I want to get an LG G3 which uses micro sim. Any suggestions?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

1.) Best Buy pre-orders are only viable if the phone can be shipped to home. Unlimited upgrades are not recommended in store.
2.) It's all about the shipping/billing address. You would need to use a tiered upgrade and have the phone shipped to you. If that works, then we can get the phone activated on your line.

For 2) then, if I ship the phone ordered off a tiered plan, should I proceed as if I were upgrading the tiered phone, up until I:
- after a day, go online and reactivate the old tiered phone (not moving any SIM cards)
- activate my own unlimited line by registering the SIM card in the new phone to my line, OR transfer my old phone's SIM card to the new phone?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It's fairly straightforward. Just do the following:

1.) Order the G3 through BestBuy.com and transfer your upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2. Basically, you want to "upgrade" the tiered line. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the phone arrives, activate it on the tiered line following the directions that come with the phone.
3.) Wait at least an hour to make sure the G3 works as it should. Now power it off
4.) Log into Verizon online and reactivate the iPhone on the tiered line (under switch or activate a device).
5.) Finally, activate the G3 on the unlimited data plan.

I just got a call from a BB mobile representative saying they were unable to clear my order because "There is currently an Unlimited Data Package on one or more lines on your account. The Unlimited Data Package is no longer available. To continue, please select a new Data Option for all of the lines on your plan. You will not be able to go back to your current Unlimited Data Package.

I am now planning to upgrade the basic line and when I get the new phone replacing the new sim card with the UDP sim. Now here's my questions, will the basic line be locked into a two year data contact? And was anyone successful in keeping their UDP by activating their new phone via swim swap?

Did you transfer your upgrade to the tiered line first before ordering?

What phone do you currently have?

Buy a SIM card adapter from Amazon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

About 2 years ago, I was able to keep my UDP when I upgraded through amazon. I just selected 'keep my existing plan'. Did they close this loop hole?

The loophole still works; though, most people buy their phones from Best Buy rather than Amazon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1 UDP no upgrade (LG G2)
Line 2 TP Upgrade (S GS3)
Line 3-5 not relevant to this discussion

Upgrade Line 2 on bestbuy.com via preorder of LG G4. Upon receipt of G4, activate it on Line 2 , wait a few min, maybe make a call, then activate GS3 back on Line 1. (GS3 phone will be ~30 miles away). Then activate G4 on Line 1.
Only question I have - do I need to remove the sim that comes with the G4 and put in the one currently in the G2?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

dusoccer10,
Do you have any insight to the $20 promotion BB is offering for every phone purchased and activated from BB?
Apparently you can get $20 and the person you recommended can also get $20.
Will this in any way cause any issues with the UDP lines?
Is it even worth trying to get the extra $80 if you are buying 3 phones from BB ($40 for you and $40 for the two other people [$20 each] who can be on the same account!)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, I made the transfer on Best Buy's website but they couldn't process and complete my order because I had an UDP. I decided to cancel that order and place a new order via upgrading the dumb phone line.

So when the phone arrives, all I would have to do is swap in my old UDP sim card into the new phone before powering it on?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've tried to search this huge thread, but cant find the info I'm looking for. I intend to do the BestBuy method. I have one unlimited line currently with a Galaxy S4. I want to upgrade to the Note Edge. Do the S4 and the Note Edge have the same size sim card? I'm very nervous about trying to trim my old sim to make it fit in the new device.

Thanks in advance
Great thread!

Yes, both the Note Edge and S4 use a micro-SIM

Samsung Galaxy S4 specs

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge specs

Good luck and enjoy your UDP

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I'm about to finally do this upgrade for the LG G4 at Best Buy using Line 5 as you instructed. Came up with another question for a future upgrade When my wife on Line 2 wants to update her phone in September (when the UDP lines are eligible for upgrade), can I use my Line 1 upgrade and do the same thing, take her old sim card out and put in the new phone order from my UDP plan?

Here is my plan in case it doesn't show up in the quoted section:

Line 1: UDP LG G2 ( No Upgrade - Upgrade available 9/29/15)
Line 2: UDP LG G2 ( No Upgrade - Upgrade available 9/29/15)
Line 3: TDP LG G3 ( No Upgrade)
Line 4: TDP LG G3 ( No Upgrade)
Line 5: Dumb phone, no data (Upgrade Available)

Have you gone through with this? When you chose the G4 to upgrade on your 5th Line, did it make you select a data plan?
On the Verizon website, it forces you to do so, and you are stuck with it for 2 years at $30/month.

If you do not turn on the phone and destroy the SIM that comes with it the data plan is never activated. I have personally done it through Apple. People have reported it works through other retailers and Verizon.

I'm not familiar with that promotion. I've seen mixed things when using loopholes to get promotions. For the most part, they should work; though, I would recommend not being too disappointed if it doesn't.
