[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1 UDP no upgrade (LG G2)
Line 2 TP Upgrade (S GS3)
Line 3-5 not relevant to this discussion

Upgrade Line 2 on bestbuy.com via preorder of LG G4. Upon receipt of G4, activate it on Line 2 , wait a few min, maybe make a call, then activate GS3 back on Line 1. (GS3 phone will be ~30 miles away). Then activate G4 on Line 1.
Only question I have - do I need to remove the sim that comes with the G4 and put in the one currently in the G2?

You'll need the G4 activate for at least an hour to make sure that the activation takes. If you move that quickly, you'll still have a pending activation on Line 2.

As for your actual question, you will eventually move the G2 SIM into the G4. This happens because Verizon's online activation system forces users to use their old SIM if it is the correct size for a new phone.

I'm on a HTC Droid DNA, with a micro-SIM, looking to get the LG G4, also on micro-SIM.

If you can get your hands on a G4, you can use the old SIM in the DNA to activate it directly onto your line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Have you gone through with this? When you chose the G4 to upgrade on your 5th Line, did it make you select a data plan?
On the Verizon website, it forces you to do so, and you are stuck with it for 2 years at $30/month.

That's not true. Please do not spread misinformation.

People are only stuck with the data plan if they activate the new smartphone on the dumb phone line. The steps that WASSCT is doing does not involve this step. Thus, the plan change never actually goes through.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

okay, so currently on a broken S5. It's given me a ton of problems. The last time I UDP-danced, things seemed a lot easier. I could use some help now.

Mapped below are my lines:

Line 1- UDP- Galaxy s5 - Has upgrade available
Line 2 - Regular tiered data plan - iPhone 5c - No upgrade available

What's my best route for using my upgrade and keeping my precious UDP?

edit: reading through the previous pages, I think I've got the idea down, just a confirmation would be great. On Best Buy, select galaxy s6 through Verizon. Select line 2, the account with no upgrade, it then asked me if I wanted to use line 1's upgrade, saying yes brought me to this screen

What happens to 918-528-LINE(1) after checkout?
Device loses upgrade eligibility
Contract extends 2 years, with new upgrade date

if I move forward with this, I won't lose the UDP of line 1 when I switch out the SIM cards?

Thanks. Is there any way to see online of the activation is still pending?

The last time I did this 2 years ago I did the upgrade in Verizon store and the Verizon guy did the activation and deactivation in the back In like three 3minutes and I had no issues.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm not familiar with that promotion. I've seen mixed things when using loopholes to get promotions. For the most part, they should work; though, I would recommend not being too disappointed if it doesn't.
dusoccer10,
I am not worried if I don't get the promo, I am worried that the promo might cause issues with the UDP lines!!
I'll give it a try if you think it won't cause issues with the UDP line, otherwise I'll just forget about getting the promo.

Thanks

Pre ordered the lg g4 through Best Buy. Should get it in a week or two. I'll post results after I follow steps by dusoccer10. I don't anticipate any issues, makes sense that there is no data plan as long as phone is not activated on dumb phone line

You have the basics down:

1.) Transfer your upgrade to the tiered line and order the S6.
2.) When the phone arrives, activate it on the tiered line for about an hour.
3.) Log onto Verizon and reactivate the 5c on Line 2.
4.) Activate the S6 on your unlimited line

Your line 1 will keep unlimited and start a new two year contract.

Try changing a feature on the line. If you can add something like mobile hotspot, then you do not have a pending activation.

Thanks. Don't actually need to complete the add, correct? Just need to get to final checkout page? Or I need to actually add it and then remove?

What about transferring an upgrade to that line? If it let's wouldn't that mean it completed?

Thanks so much for the reply! Just so I'm super-clear about what I should do:

1. Ordered phone through upgrading sibling's TDP line.
2. Upon arrival, activate line normally to sibling line.
3. After a day, deactivate G4, activate old sibling phone, activate my own UDP line on new phone.

- or can I just, after step 1, throw out the new SIM, and transfer my UDP SIM card right there before any activation?

Thanks!!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am trying to do this upgrade from my old crappy iPhone 5 (UDP) to the S6 but when I hit add to package on the bb site, it doesn't say "keep existing plan" like the instructions say. It says "upgrade my device" and then check eligibility and warns me that I will go to 2gb of data since the unlimited plan doesn't exist anymore. Is "upgrade my device" the new thing to do instead of selecting keep existing plan? I do not want to do this if I am going to lose my data.

Yeah, you don't actually have to complete the add. If you can get to the checkout page, you do not have a pending activation.

Transferring an upgrade wouldn't show it, but trying to "switch or activate" a different device on the line would.

You have the right steps, though, you would only need to wait about an hour rather than an entire day.

You can bypass steps 2 and 3 if you want. That would leave a pending activation on your sibling's line for a month or so. As long as no one plans on making any changes during that time frame, you can go that route.

You won't lose your data plan unless you actually activate the new device. Nothing happens at check-out to your plan. If you remove the SIM that comes with the s6 and put in your old SIM from the iPhone, you will keep your unlimited data.

Hey, thanks so much! You've been really patient and helpful! I'll give it a go when the phone gets here.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I hope someone can help me out. I'm a bit confused after reading the different methods and not sure which I should do that works best for me. I have three lines.
Line 1 UDP
Line 2 UDP
Line 3 Flip

All have upgrades available. I'm ready to upgrade the two UDP phones and would like to keep the UDP on both. I'm not afraid to cut a sim card if I must, but if there is a method to preserve Line 3's upgrade I'd prefer that but it isn't a deal breaker. Thanks...

What phones do you have on the unlimited data lines? What phones do you?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think I need some help. bit of a complex situation.

Anyways, I had a iphone 4s with UDP and nationwide talk and text 450. I've been on month to month for years, and have an upgrade available. My goal was to split this into essentially voice and text with a different carrier (page plus) and stay with Verizon for unlimited data. I've done the first step by getting an LTE sim on a throwaway android phone at a VAR. my UDP stayed.

Now I want to do the best buy trick. now the hard part. I want to downgrade the data to the cheapest available. I heard that the 30minute voice only loyalty plans are $15 plus the $30 for udp.
The downside is they put you on contract for a year. I'm ok with this though.

The big question is when to do the minute downgrade, before or after the best buy trick. For the before scenario, I'm afraid that once im put on a one year contract I won't be able to do the best buy trick, because my upgrade eligibility might be nullified by being on contract.

The other scenario is to do the minute downgrade after the best buy trick. Obviously I would have to wait for the activation to fall off. Contacting Verizon after the best buy trick might be risky because I have a 2 year contract with a udp active. They'd have to know something fishy was up, and my get just take my udp.

I can't find the answer to this before/after dilemma anywhere. I've looked quite a bit. Any ideas?
