[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm having trouble transferring my upgrade on BestBuy. I clicked the "Make Any Phone Upgrade Your Upgrade" option and then proceeded to type in my information. The resulting message is, "You can upgrade today if you choose a phone eligible for Device Payment. With this plan you’ll pay for your device over several months rather than a full upfront cost as well as other pricing features." Although there are two other lines on my account that could easily transfer their upgrades...

Any suggestions? Is it better to transfer the upgrade and purchase the device from Verizon Online or Best Buy Mobile? I'm looking to get the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

EDIT: Trying to continue with the transferred upgrade and purchase at Verizon does not seem to work either. I select the S6 edge and I am only given the option of full retail or monthly payment plan. I noticed it also has a large icon stating, "Special Offer - Early Upgrade."
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work anymore.
Last night I was able to go thru the whole process; transferring my upgrade to my daughter's TDP. I didn't have my card with me, so I decided to complete it I'm the morning. This morning, it no longer let's me do this. The option to transfer upgrade is there, but once you go pay, it says it can't be completed.

Is this for Best Buy Mobile, Verizon Wireless Online, or both?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work anymore.

So does this also mean the straight upgrade of a UDP line by destroying the new simm won't work either? ? I need to decide that or buy full retail with a $200 BB card back.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I didn't try that method. Only the "transfer-upgrade" method. I'm hoping it was just a website error. I will try again....

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have my line which is UDP and am able to upgrade.I got on BestBuy website and it tells me that if I choose to use my upgrade I will be switched to a 2 gb plan. My question is, is this normal and I should just go with it or is this something new. I want to upgrade to either the note 5 or sg6+. Thoughts on which phone and how to keep Udp?

Looking into upgrade, tell me if I have this right. I'm trying to avoid having to activate/deactivate anything on Line 2. I don't mind having a pending activation if it goes away on its own. I went back about 10 pages but didn't find an answer, so apologies if this has already been answered.

Line 1: UDP, LG G2. Upgrade available. <--- To be upgraded
Line 2: 2GB plan, iPhone 5. No upgrade available yet. (11/1/15)

Looking at upgrading LG G2 to LG G4 now or soon. Leave Line 2 alone for now, maybe upgrade in a month or more.

1. Via VZW website, transfer Line 1 upgrade to Line 2
2. Order LG G4 on Line 2, with 2 year contract, and 2 GB plan, with upgrade fee (bleh)
3. Receive shipment, don't turn on G4
4. Pull G4 SIM, discard G4 SIM
5. Pull G2 SIM, insert G2 SIM into G4, power on G4, activate

Net effect:
Line 1: UDP, LG G4, Transferred 11/1/15 upgrade date
Line 2: 2GB plan, iPhone 5, on 2 year contract

OK Guys - DuSoccer, specifically... :)

I've been following the thread a bit, dropped off, and am back and am getting confused with some of the back and forth.

I have the following:
Line 1 - Samsung S4, UDP, no upgrade
Line 2 - iPhone 5, TieredPlan, Upgrade Available

Looking to upgrade LINE 1 to S6 (something). These all use new Nano-Sim cards, I believe. I believe the best method to do this is still to go to a store and have them upgrade the line, activate iP5 to Line 1 so that we have same size SIM card.

Will any of the new tiered plans get in the way here?

The other thought I had - Would I be able to simply upgrade the phone by walking in to a BB or VZW, buying a subsidized phone, activate it on Line 2 (at the store) then about an hour later, revert Line 2 to iP5 and activate new phone on Line 1.... I get confused on which SIM to use where. What happens to the Apple-specific data that is on the iP5 after the transition? My daughter is worried she'll be losing all of her 'stuff.'

many thanks!

Wanted to report anybody upgrading to an iPhone from a non iphone may have issues with SIM card after transfer. Specifically using iMessage/FaceTime on new iPhone. Solution is go to VAR ( Verizon Authorized Retailer) and get new SIM card. I simply took SIM card out of iPhone and told them phone works fine (which it did calls/texts/Internet) but needed new SIM card as instructed by Apple support (also true) because iMessage/FaceTime was not working. Rep didn't think it would fix the problem. But it did. Thanks DuSoccer for your assistance and wanted to provide info in case you get asked about the issue.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can someone confirm I can do the following...

Line 1: Galaxy S5 with UDP , no upgrade avail.
Line 2: Galaxy S5 with UDP, upgrade is avail.

Can I order a GS6+ from Best Buy online for Line 2, choose the basic plan (I guess small), the when it arrives, not power it up, destroy SIM. Place SIM from Line 1 in it and power up. Never touch the phone on Line 2. And st

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I purchased upgrade on L2 Tiered plan and activated new phone on that line. It was active for about 12 hours. I switched L2 back to original phone no problems.

I went to add new phone to L1 UDP and when swapping sims realized that the new phone has a nano sim and old phone does not, so what are my options?

1. Can I activate new phone on L1 with installed nano sim even though it was upgraded through tiered plan and not lose udp?

2. Should I get a blank nano sim from somewhere else to be safe? If so where?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I keep changing my scenario;

Line 1: Note 2 UDP Upgrade available (mine)
Line 2: iPhone 6 Plus UDP Upgrade available
Line 3: iPhone 5c TDP

I, line 1, want to get the Note 5 from Best Buy, better price and free wireless charger, using line 3's upgrade.
If it can be done; how should I do it?

Thank you.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do you have any good suggestions for cutting the standard sim that's in the S4, so that it fits into the Note 5 (nano sim)? I don't know how this is going to work, once I lined the two up! Thank you.

You can buy SIM card cutters on Amazon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Gotcha. You are correct in the steps. Since everything uses a nano-SIM, you just need to put the right SIM in the right phone.

Quick update: Got the new phone shipped to home, powered it on with included SIM, but it wouldn't activate service even over Wifi and kept trying to auto dial VZW to speak with a customer rep. Even tried activating phone online and got error message it could not be completed. Ended up taking 'old' SIM from one of the TDP lines and placing it into the new phone and verifying Verizon's system online was seeing the new phone on the TDP line (kind of like the UDP swap SIM trick).

Where would I see the pending activation (if any) considering I never activated the new phone with the included new SIM? If Verizon's system is seeing everything OK, does that mean there is no pending activation and everything worked out via swapping SIMS?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well I went through with the upgrade on BestBuy website and clicked that little pop up that says your plan will switch over. Now all I can do is wait until phone ships and put my old sim in it and hope for the best and pray I keep my udp

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So has anyone confirmed that the Bestbuy/Verizon methods still work after the 13th?

You should be good to go as it doesn't sound like you have a pending activation.
