[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I just got the phone in today(also contacted BB to get it price adjusted to $1), haven't open it. With my current SIM card, should I cut it or go through VAR?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think the loophole has officially closed I successfully upgraded my UDP line in July kept current plan ignored all warnings. When I got the phone I let hubby, who also has UDP put his sim card (different phone number than what I upgraded) into my new phone. My contract renewed and he had a new phone no one lost UDP. Well on the 10th of October I price checked some phones on best buy got all the way through checkout upgrading his phone no problem. Figured pricing taxes etc. We decided to wait until the 15th or 1st of Nov to purchase due to money or lack of. I checked 3 or 4 days ago I could not even get to checkout screen it told me my unlimited data plan made me ineligible to upgrade please remove from cart and continue shopping. No work around that I can find not on Verizon website either. Yes on the 15th of Nov any UDP off contract will be charged $20 more a month and the others as they fall off contract. However!!!! If you use that much data, and don't want to be throttled, look at it this way you are now paying $50 a month for the best data. ..now I was naturally angry, I called found out early termination fees and price compared many options since my one UDP has 21 months left lol. The rep informed me that on the 15th we will now be allowed to upgrade UDP lined with the edge program. Not as good as the 2 yr disc. To me but nice to know we now have an option. We have two dummy lines we use to transfer upgrades to. We pay 9.99 a month after taxes and fees and local taxes and surcharges they cost us between $16 and $18 a month. For us the $20 bump upset me but now that I can drop thsee lines and in reality pay less for now since mine still has 21 months. He will be able to upgrade his phone and eat the $20 charge and our bill will be the same once we drop the two lines. When my contract is up I'll prob just take his old phone and let him get another so we aren't paying an extra $50 a month for 2 new phones or shop on ebay for late models. But it is nice to know we can now do edge without loosing UDP. Hope that helps some.

Which loophole?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think the poster is talking about the best buy loophole.

I have an upgrade on my wifes UDP line. Out of contract...trying BB method now.
it mentions nothing about my data plan.

Verizon Wireless Mobile Package <---------- there was no pick of a data plan while i was choosing

Samsung - Galaxy S6 edge 4G LTE with 32GB Memory Cell Phone - White Pearl (Verizon Wireless)
$49.99

Which loophole?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can anyone confirm this for me.

My UDP contract expires December 21st.

I have 1 line.

On bestbuy.com I put my info in and it said I was elligable to upgrade and walking through the checkout it didn't say anything about changing my plan. It said 35$ activation.

So is it safe to go through with upgrading and Having the phone delivered and then putting my current udp SIM card in the new phone.

I'm hoping this will give me a subsidized phone as well as extend my contract to avoid the 20$ hike.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks keep me updated, it says online that you may be switched to a 2gb plan on bestbuy.com but thats normal for this method. I was just making sure verizon wasn't making some trap for us people, especially making me eligible for a upgrade 1 month early...

I was gonna place my order but it says the phone will take 2 weeks to deliver lol

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can I transfer upgrade to from line 2 to 4 instead? Do I have to sign up for a data plan on line 4 then cancel it?
(FYI line 2 is the one i want to upgrade to the S6)
Yes you can move the upgrade from 2 to 4 instead just remember that you're trying to prevent the $20 increase in your UPD.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Attempting to transferring thru Verizon's site. My line is month to month, my other line is 2gb. I've taken all the steps up to the check out page and it shows the phone I selected is on the 2gb line and my UDP line staying the same. It says a 30 a month data plan is needed which would be my 2gb line. I should be fine completing this order correct?

Also, since my lines upgrade was transferred I should then be placed on a new 2 year contract correct, keeping my UDP in-tacked?

If all is correct above, then once I receive the phone I activate it with the sim card it shipped with and everything should be good. Use the phone on the 2gb line for a hour or so, then I can switch that phone to my UDP line and put the other phone back on the 2gb line?

Main goal here is to get my line on contract for another 2 years to avoid the $20 fee increase. thanks all!

I actually did this a while ago but it's been so long that I'm looking for assurance is all. : )

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I would like to upgrade line 1 & 2. Since I cannot use a 3G sim in 4G phone, what is the best way to proceed? I would like to do this through Verizon's site so I can bill to my account. I think I have to transfer an upgrade? I know I have to do one, then a week later do the other upgrade.

L1 UDP iphone 4S Upgrade available
L2 UDP iphone 4S Upgrade available
L3 UDP iphone 6 Upgrade available
L4 UDP iphone 5 Upgrade available
L5 TDP iphone 4 No upgrade

Any assistance is very much appreciated. I have been looking around for help before I take the plunge.... :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It's been awhile since I've upgraded, the last time I did upgrade it was through that Best Buy loophole. What are my current options as I would love to upgrade our two smartphones?

Here is my current VZW situation:

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The Best Buy loophole still works.

I haven't done the BB method in years no idea how to do it? As you can see in the image above I have four lines, 2 basic & 2 UDP. So do I just transfer the upgrades from the UDP lines over to the basic lines or something? I'd be grateful for a tutorial.

And how does this BB method stop me from having to pay that extra $20 to keep my Unlimited Data plan on November 15th? My two UDP lines where discounted $20 each when I signed up with Verizon it was a promotion.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

even with UDP you can get a phone with a 2 year contract on BB..
My new phone should be here today so ill know tomorrow

By upgrading through the Best Buy method, it puts your lines back under contract. This will give you a two year extension before having to pay an extra $40 a month for having two unlimited lines.

As for the actual method, just upgrade each line individually through Best Buy and have the phone shipped to home. When it arrives, use your current SIM to activate the new phone (do not use the SIM that comes with the new phones).

Does your new phone have same sized sim? My note 3 is micro note 5 is nano. I am not tecky enough to cut down card. I can't think of an excuse to get a nano sim from vzw when no listed phones have one.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The Best Buy loophole still works.
Which one? So many are described. I have udp 1 year left on contract but I am eligible for upgrade. My wife is 2gb not eligible for upgrade. Her contract expires in 2017. Nationwide 550 share everything.

I would prefer doing this without messing with my wife's line at all. She will freak out. Since my note 3 has different sim size from note 5 I want to buy how do I get vzw to give me a nano sim without them insisting I lose udp.

Best Buy claims their old method doesn't work any more and I will automatically be switched to 2gb plan no matter what I read elsewhere.

So you basically just keep extending your contract every 2 years to avoid the $40, thus staying that the $-20 discount? The $40 doesn't start until your contract expires correct? I thought I read somewhere that extending your contract for another 2 years doesn't get rid of the $40? That for UDP users, once your contract expires you lose unlimited unless your pay the extra $40 to keep it?

About BB, I go on their website, I'm guessing I put in my number and it'll show my 4 lines (2 basic, 2 UDP) and that 2 are do for upgrades? I order 2 new phones at the discounted price because I'm renewing another 2 years? They will ask you to pick a data plan, if I pick 2gb wont I be stuck with that? How do I go from 2gb back to unlimited? Also, you said to take the sim cards out of my phones and put them in the new phones. Two questions, one, do iPhone have sim cards that'll fit in the newest Android phones, we have a 5s and 5c. Also, wont My Verizon, where you pay your bills, will it show my new phones on my page or still show my 5s and 5c?

Ok, I see you have a lot of questions and a few misconceptions about everything that is going on.

Unlimited Data Price Increase - Starting on November 15th, if you have an unlimited data line that is out of contract, you'll have a price increase of $20 per month per line. Your data promotion is still valid; however, you'll now be paying $29.99 a month per line rather than $9.99 per month. Those of us (like me) without that promotion are looking at data being $49.99 a month.

To avoid this price increase for two years, people are using their upgrades via loopholes to get back on contract. This will allow you to avoid being hit with the extra $20 per month charge (see http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/0...price-hike-more-details-about-who-it-impacts/) or in your case $40 per month.

As for the Best Buy method, everything you are seeing is standard. By selecting a 2GB plan, you are not actually switching to that plan. That only happens if you activate the new SIM that comes with the phone you ordered. Just do the following:

1.) Go to Best Buy's website and upgrade Line 1 to the phone you want. Select the 2GB plan and have it shipped to home.
2.) When the phone arrives, do not turn it on or plug it in
3.) Remove the SIM card that comes with the new phone and destroy it
4.) Take the SIM card from your iPhone and put it in the new phone. Turn on the new phone and give it a couple of minutes to activate

That's all you need to do. You can order a new phone for Line 2 as soon as you finish ordering a phone for Line 1. The big thing is to make sure they are separate orders. Additionally, you never switch to the 2GB plan because you never use the new SIM. Your old SIM is coded to unlimited data and that is what you use to activate. By doing these 4 steps, you'll lock in a new 2 year contract and avoid the extra $40 a month. This will save you $480 a year and $960 over the next 2 years.

As for SIM sizes, all new android phones released this year use the same size as the 5s and 5c except for the LG G4.

Ignore Best Buy's reps. Just like Verizon reps, they are trained to say something different than what you would learn from this 10,000+ post thread. If you don't want to use your wife's line (and you really should as it is the easiest way to go), just use the upgrade on your line. If you are willing to pay $10, a VAR will usually activate a phone order from Best Buy without any questions being asked.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I look forward to the update if the BB method still works as I want to do it soon to avoid the price jump on my UDP. Does anyone know if they generally put a hold on your account or anything like that when you dodo not activate the phone with the SIM that came with the phone?
