[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is it safe to walk into BestBuy to exchange a contracted TDP smartphone within 14-day return window that's in the same account as a UDP line that just recently used a loophole (BB method) to upgrade?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I work for best buy part time in the mobile department and do this all the time. I apologize in advance as I did not read the entire thread. It looks like lines 1 and 3 are eligible for upgrades. Line one would be a normal upgrade and line 3 you can upgrade and then transfer the device to line number 2. Just have the BB employee swap them after the upgrade. What the employee must do is look up what device is on line 3 and get the IMEI and SIM ICCID from verizon which is on their EROES site. Then once the upgrade is done, they would put the onld device info back on line 3 which will free up the new device then put that new deivce on line 2 free up your S4 as not active on any lines.

Please be awar this all depends on your current bill/plan. If you are on a share plan and do the 2 year contract there is not work around for it being charge $40 a month for the line fee. If you are on the old plan with unlimited data the extra $20 charge is through VZW and they will apply it automatically whenever they please.

I have read that the $20 charge per line from VZW is only for out of contract lines. So if I can get my L1 UDP and L2 UDP contracts extended 2 years I should not have to pay $20 per line for 2 years until my contract expires.. in theory. My question is that if I use Line 3 TDP upgrade for new phone and then switch that phone to L2 UDP will it extend L2 UDP contract 2 years and keep my unlimited data?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ordered a V10 shipped to store because that was what the wife really wanted and was the only option. My plan was to cancel the order if they wanted to activate in store. I told them it was a gift and didn't want to activate. They did not require me to activate. Got home, popped in old sim card and kept unlimited data and back under 2 year contract.

The guy at store pickup said they used to take you over to activate in the mobile department at time of pickup but now to speed things up they send you home with instructions how to activate. So they had no issue without activating in store. The only scary part was they couldn't find either the phone or TV. Found the TV but couldn't find the phone they had picked so they tried grabbing another from stock but it wouldn't let the order process. but they eventually found the picked phone and all went well after that.

Aww same here, oh well should have mine tomorrow at work. Thankfully work has no problem having all kinds of stuff shipped to the office.

My account now shows upgrade and contract end date of 11/11/17 so so far so good.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello,

I'm sorry this question might been asked a lot already but the thread is very long. I want to know if I can use the BB trick even if I just have one phone with VZW and its under the UDP? If so am I to late? It sounds like I can't get the V10, but I don't really care what phone I get since I have a N6 and I'm very happy with it. Thanks and sorry again if this has been asked a lot.

Regards,

Huskerfan

So this will work if I go into a Best Buy store??? Not sure I have enough time to order by mail and receive and activate in time. I'm also not sure I'll do everything accurately myself. Mom and Dad are out of state, and I want to keep the unlimited data plan somehow and just found out about the 11/15 deadline.

I have 4 lines, 3 of which are eligible for an upgrade.

L1 - UDP eligible for upgrade. Primary line. Nationwide 1400 plan. (Me)
L2 - UDP eligible for upgrade. Nationwide 1400 plan. (Mom)
L3 - UDP eligible for upgrade (no data currently), but dad wants a smartphone now. Nationwide 1400 plan. (Dad)
L4 - TDP, not eligible for upgrade (Hubby)

Question 1: How can I get this done? I would like to upgrade both L1 and L2 to Samsung S6. Currently have S4s. Will give one of the S4s to my dad.
Question 2: Is it also possible to swap my husband and dad's plans so my husband gets UDP instead?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

From what I have read so far it only works if you do it online. I just tried it and it said the phone wouldn't get to my location until Monday. So we maybe to late.

The contract gets extended the day you order Not when you receive the phone

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

How did you do it?

I just want to make sure its okay since the first part of this thread says:

"DO NOT use an upgrade that currently has unlimited unless you have no other choice because you will lose unlimited data on that line. Example: You have a family share plan with 3 lines. 2 are smartphones both with unlimited data and 1 is a basic phone with no data. "

So I just want to make sure if I do this I will not lose data.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes please share how you were able to upgrade and keep your UDP without transfers!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just did like dusoccer10 and others described later in the thread. Went to best buy website, shipped to home, used the old sim and tossed the new sim. Really nothing special since no transfers. Everything looks good right now. I'm not necessarily in the know like everyone else so I hesitate to give any instruction. I know enough to be dangerous :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Best Buy Method.

Line 1: UDP, Upgrade Available

Upgrade with one unlimited line (Best Buy Method)
1. Order from Best Buy or other third party retailer and have it SHIPPED to your house. You may see a note that you will lose unlimited and it may require you to select a tiered data plan. This is okay.
2. If Best Buy contacts you about the order and tells you to call them, cancel the order immediately and check to make sure your Verizon account is in good standing. Then you can re-order, or try to order from another 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party retailer.
3. DO NOT TURN ON THE NEW PHONE. Remove the sim from the existing phone and place it in the new phone, and turn it on.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Gotcha! Thanks for reposting. Most of what I've read is to upgrade only 1 phone in an account. I have 3 UDP lines all eligible for upgrade and 1 TDP line not eligible. I'd like to:
1) Upgrade Lines 1 & 2 UPD lines from Samsung S4 to the S6
2) Give one of the Samsung S4s to UDP L3 (L3 is a basic voice only phone)
3) Possibly get an S6 for the 1 TDP line (but this is not a priority at all)

I've read that I can 1) purchase a phone from Bestbuy.com, have it shipped to my house, 2) cut my micro SIM card to fit the S6 nano slot, and 3) turn the phone on and 4) Voila! it should work. Is this correct?

Can I buy more than 1 S6 from bb.com in one transaction and still have this work?

Also, can someone clarify if the contract extends at time of phone purchase or when I activate it with the SIM card? I just don't think I'm going to be able to receive the phone prior to Nov 15.

Once that is done can I go back to my old phone? Or do I have to stay on the new one?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sorry for all the questions I have one more though. When I click on BB upgrade line it says:

"Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."

From your steps it sounds like that is okay. Is that right? Sorry I just want to make sure before doing it as I really really don't want to lose UDP

Thank you very much for all your time too and everyone here!
