[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I lost my unlimited data friday using the bbm. It's dead.
Did you read the slickdeals thread?people are reporting having done as late as april last week no issues.did you do anything wrong?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

No i followed the thread exactly. the only thing i can think of is that i bought a g4 from B&H photo and when i logged into my verizon account to activate it, my only option under devices was a "complete activation" button which i now think was referring to the subsidized phone. I clicked it and my nexus old nexus quit working. I had to call into customer service and have the them activate my g4. So maybe when i clicked that "complete activation button" it removed my unlimited data.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've called customer service several times, used twitter and facebook, they tell me the only way to get my unlimited data back is to return the subsidized device to best buy first, which i can't do because the phone has already been sold.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Now verizon is telling me that I will be hit with a 350$ early termination fee is that device is not activated on my account within 60 days - and still will not get my unlimited data back.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Oh wow..............did you ask to speak with a supervisor or the supervisor's supervisor??? If you really that unlimited data back , I would go all out and get on Verizon's nerves until somebody does something about it...

Contact the buyer and buy back the phone.

This was your MAIN mistake, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you read the OP there (on SD) and i know its crazy long, even i could not read the whole of it if i had to pull the BBM.

But you should have just continued to use your old UDP sim in any phone, never hit that Complete activation, and do not try logging into an MyVerizon from a new phone(even used or full retail) why did you even have to activate the G4 from B&H? you should have just inserted your existing UDP active SIM and continued.

The subsdized phone leaves a Pending Order / Pending Activation / Complete Upgrade (different things meaning same stuff i guess), If you ever hit that - your UDP is kABOOM.sorry but hopefully the IPR and returning the phone will get your UDP back. This is because the subsidized phone is IMEI linked and that leaves some switch order and hitting the complete activation, essentially completes your activation of the phone (even using the OLD udp SIM).Once the system activates on the UDP line + subsidized phone, the switch is completed.

I think in hindsight if you had not done the Complete Activation, you would have been OK.The Pending Order / Activation stays on your line usually for 1-2 months / billing cycle after which it drops off. They mention on the SD thread, try best to not contact VZ for anything at all during this limbo stage.

It is my understanding that you won't get hit with etf so long as you keep the line for 2 years. I would ask Verizon to point out where in the customer agreement is this requirement, because I don't remember seeing it the last time I read it (but I could be wrong hence why you should ask)

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think if the phone is activated on another line (TDP or UDP ) on a different account, the phone would be considered activated on verizon's network and that should basically mean you have activated the phone.

Like dpham00 said, i think when they refer to ETF its the line thats under contract( yeah they could say its for the phone) but usually my understanding is also if you cancel the line which was used for a subsidized upgrade then ETF applies..

I have never heard of anyone being assessed a etf fee for not activating a phone so long as they fulfilled their 2 year commitment.

I agree....he can get his UDP back if he is persistent

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I'm familiar with the Best Buy method....but I have NOT had an upgrade since they ended the loophole where you use a basic phone upgrade to up upgrade your smartphone. In August 2014 they ended that. I transfered my upgrade from my UDP line to a dumbphone line. Used the upgrade for the LG G3......activated it, and then reactivated the dumbphone and had a brand new LG G3 for myself to pop the Sim card into. That extended the contract on my UDP line and it doesn't end until August of this year, so I have yet to get hit with the extra $20 UDP fee. I keep reading about those of you who use the BBM and extend your contract and not pay the extra $20.

My question is come August (assuming the BBM is still working by then) will I be able to use it to upgrade, extend the contract and NOT pay the extra $20? I'm using a Nexus 6p I bought in November. I won't need a new phone, but wouldn't mind having an S7 as a spare....especially since my wife got the Gear VR with her S7 for free. If I get the phone from BBM for $200 and keep the contract for 2 years without paying the $20 a month....it's well worth it.

I kept my Verizon Unlimited Data by going on a phone payment plan.

I did the best buy and sell method a couple weeks ago and sold the phone to my father, who has his own UDP account and no issues here.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So looking to see if someone could help out with my scenario and best route to go. Here is what I have.

Line1: Note 2, upgrade available, UDP
Line2: Note 2, upgrade available, tiered data
Line3: Iphone, Upgrade available, tiered data

I wanted to upgrade lines 2 and 3 to the Note 5. Best Buy has them on sale for $99 this week. After I do the upgrade and activate both phones. I was going to reactivate the Iphone. Switch the note5 to line 1. I was hoping I can just pop in my SIM card and be good.

Will this mess up my unlimited data on line 1?

What are the contract end dates?

I got the $20 increase way before I upgraded. The $20 increase began for me in November. I still have unlimited Data plan tho and I'm loving it. :)
