[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks! I was hoping it would be as easy as this. I just have to use my original SIM card, correct? Can I move the S5 to line 2 after?

You can never put the phone you upgrade from line 2 on line 2 or you will lose your UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So... my friend loss her UDP. (I've been asking for her) I'm guessing it either triggered something when she used her old SIM to try out another phone and then activated her own iphone again, or the VAR rep changed her plan without telling her while getting the new SIM after the old one stopped working. I had stressed at least 10 times about how important it is to make sure they don't do that and to check while they activate the new SIM.

The VAR rep never said a thing about changing data plans and it looked like UDP was intact on her account for a while until just hrs ago. So who know if it's the rep or the swapping phones and reactivating the iphone had already doomed the situation.

I guess the only thing to do now is try to ask for an IPR? The issue is, she won't be able to return her phone because its been 1 yr.

When she signed up with BB 1 yr ago, it did say "Keep Existing Plan" all through checkout. What can be done to salvage this situation? I'm assuming VZ should give some sort of concession since she did have a contract.

I'm confused because of the stitching phones you are talking about, don't recall you saying anything about that in previous posts. They may be what made her lose UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I used the old BBM method on July 22nd and still have unlimited data. I was told by a BB employee that once you're switched to the $49.99 price point for unlimited you can upgrade on a 2 year contract and keep it. All I know is it worked for me. I activated in store and my plan never changed.

It makes sense, because VZW is apparently allowing themselves. The only possible catch is there is the "Contract End Date" and "Date Contract End Date" now. So it almost seems like they are separating it so they can fine print the heck out of the new contract and do whatever they want. Not that I know this as a fact, but just speculation of what can happen. But upgrade away while we can and try to get the best phone in terms of hardware now so it's future proof for a while.

Has anyone seen this when trying to upgrade via Verizon? " PAYGO".. prior to it showing this it said " the more everything plan.

When I clicked just to view the cart. At top there is an error message. It says there was a problem with one or more systems please try again later. This is from acessing vzw on a computer vs my phone. And is something new I am seeing. Still reluctant to upgrade

This might be the answer to everyone's questions. Well those of us that now have the 49.99 udp now.

I did a chat with Verizon wireless without having to give any information. I also made sure I wasn't signed in. (Lol just a superstition, I trust no reps)

But basically she said as long as your on the 49.99 udp u can upgrade at the sub price. However doesn't suggest using bestbuy. I posted pic of chat as well.

What sucks is that best buy is selling the moto z force @99.99 with free moto mod. So we have confirmed on vzw end u can upgrade. But nothing on the best buy end and vzw doesn't recommend you use them.
Still haven't seen anyone confirm upgrading the standard way has worked for them via best buy on here. Has anyone seen anything anywhere else? Don't know if I 100% trust this vzw rep chat.

They don't want you to use BB because Verizon wants the sell. The $49.99 had already been confirmed to work on here. If you want the Z Force you have to try BB, the deal is unbeatable!

I know! They have such a good offer. It's just nerve wrecking when I attempt to place the order and I don't see any details listed about my data not changing.

Don't remember reading about it working for those with the 49.99$ udp using standard bestbuy method. I keep reading bb buy and sell method or not using the new Sim cards. Can u pin point someone with success ? ( best buy method using just upgrade)

I can't point to one specific post about it and BB to be honest most of the post here use BB even if but mentioned because nobody trust Verizon. I wouldn't worry about wording saying everything stays the same, just about wording saying it will change.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay, I am feeling like an ***** as I have read the past 5 or so pages and am not sure I understand the new methods (I used the basic BBM previously.)

Here is my situation:

700 Min Family Share plan
L1,S5, UDP (29.99), on-contract, end 12/2016
L2, S4, 2G limit (29.99), contract up as of 7/26/2016, upgrade available

I would like to upgrade both phones, at some point, while retaining UDP on line 1. I can wait until L1 contract expires, if necessary. What are my options?

You're probably better off waiting or just buying at a full off contract price which is what I will be doing through Best Buy for the Note 7. I haven't figured out a new way to use some sort of an upgrade on the Verizon plan and not force it to change the structure of the plan and kill off UD.

On a side note, I'm glad folks are still using my original instructions here over 4 years later after I wrote the guide on how to keep UD!!

No way, he can upgrade line 2 when is available and put that phone on line 1. Then in Dec transfer upgrade from line 1 to line 2 and get a phone for it.

Problem with buying out right is getting the extra $20 hit a month for being off contact, and now they are making people change plans for using too much data when out of contract. So you are rising losing your UDP just by being off contact.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Fyi.. got a shipment confirmation from vz on my note 7... I have the 49.99 udp and upgraded with 2 year price for $299 through Verizon website... Will post back once phone is active and let you know if i retained udp... Everything on the website indicates that my plan will stay the same but who knows with vz..

Thanks again guys

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

BB upgrade works just fine... no tricks at all. Single line, off contact, $50 UDP, got the $1 Z, now under contract for 2 years, no other plan or bill changes.

How long have you been activated?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My order from best buy has shipped and my vzw account now reflects that I am under a 2 year contract. I still have udp @49.99. I'll update after receiving the phone and activating it.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 3 lines with Verizon
Line 1 UDP no contract
Line 2 UDP no contract
Line 3 basic no contract

I upgraded line 1 and 2 using the Verizon site to the Note 7 at 299.99 for 2 year contract. Both line 1 and 2 currently have the S5. Should I use the SIM card Verizon includes with the phones or use the SIM card from the S5? I think I should be okay using what they send, just want to hear folks feedback/thoughts.

Since you have no contract I assume you are paying $49.99, the extra $20? If so just the SIM cards that come with the phone.
