[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My Situation: Nationwide Talk Share Plan

Line 1: TDP Not eligible for upgrade
Line 2: TDP Eligible for upgrade
Line 3: TDP Not eligible for upgrade
Line 4: UDP, month to month $50, eligible for upgrade

From the reading, I went ahead and ordered a Note 7 from VZW after transferring upgrade from Line 2 to 1. It will arrive in 2-3 days. My intention is to use this new Note 7 on Line 4 (UDP)[ and of course keep UDP. Question that I am confused about is how to proceed now.
1. Should I activate the Note 7 on Line 1 temporarily and then deactivate it by reactivating old Line 1 phone? Or should I not activate new phone on Line 1 at all.
2. Assuming that its OK to activate new phone on Line 1 and then deactivate it, should I remove/destroy SIM from Note 7 and use my current SIM from Line 4 (UDP) or should I activate Note 7 with the SIM it arrived with on Line 4 (UDP)

Thanks for the help

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1 UDP: Upgrade Available $49.99
Line 2 UDP: Upgrade Available $49.99
Line 3 TDP: Upgrade Available
Line 4 TDP: No Upgrade Available

Can I Use Line 3's 2 year contract upgrade and activate that phone on line 1 to keep my unlimited? and can I use Line 1's 2 year contract upgrade and activate the phone on Line 3 and keep my unlimited on Line 1? Trying to pre-order the Pixel to use for Line 1.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It's strange. I can't get it to work. When I order Note 7 online, it states that my UDP is no longer available, need to pick a different data plan and I will not be able to get my UDP back if I go ahead. Same situation as you: Out of contract on UDP, paying $50 /month. On Nationwide Talk Share plan.

Any idea how to get this to work?
Thanks

When you are on MY VZW does it show an upgrade available on that line? Mine did and it showed I could keep my UDP...

yes. Very strange. When did you upgrade? They may have changed some things recently

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My guess is that you have a specific set things in your plan that worked. Mine does not look like yours. That may be the reason. I wish I could do what you were able to do...

Since line two is tdp, just buy it directly on the line, activate it,then insert the line four sim into it.

Yes and yes. Upgrade line three first.for the second thing, transfer the upgrade from line one to one three then activate the phone on line three . never put that phone on line one or you will lose UDP

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've got a UDP on a single line. The last time I upgraded my phone, I bought the Galaxy S5 via Best Buy and did the SIM card switcheroo. I have been happy with my phone and haven't looked into how to upgrade and keep the UDP since then -- until today. I am intrigued by the Pixel, so I went through the VZW site to upgrade my phone from the S5 to the Pixel and I was surprised that it was seemingly allowing me to keep my UDP. Is this because I'm paying full retail price for the phone? And why am I paying full retail price -- is there an option to pay less, or has that been phased out? I apologize for my ignorance.

If the only option is to pay full price for the Pixel, I am OK with that. I went all the way through the process with VZW and arrived at this final check-out screen:

vzw.jpg

It looks to me like VZW is ready to send me a Really Blue 32 GB Pixel without changing my plan. What gives me pause is that this screen is suggesting that my plan will only cost $34.99 (minus my employer discount), which I know to not be true. I'm looking at my last bill and, while the base charge is $34.99, there are additional charges of $10 for 500 texts and $49.99 for Email & Web Unlimited (which I know was added several months ago -- I read all about that when it happened). Is this an issue or is this a non-issue? i.e. can I expect that this $34.99 figure is just for the base plan and the same $49.99 UDP charge will be added on when the bill is actually generated?

Final question: do I need to worry about any SIM card tricks like last time? Or will this phone arrive, boot up, and be accessing my UDP on VZW seamlessly? Thank you profusely for helping me out.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you are doing dpp, then you don't need to worry about any tricks. You can activate it directly on the UDP line.

Wait, so I need to use the upgrade on line 3, and then transfer the upgrade from line 1 to line 3 and upgrade line 3 again?

I was told by vzw customer service that if I transfer an upgrade from UDP to TDP I will lose the UDP.

All I need is to get Line 1 the Pixel without losing the UDP. Line 3 doesnt want a new phone. Sorry should have explained that before.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok if all you want is one phone, just upgrade line three directly . Then activate it on line three. Now move it to line one.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've read through a bunch of the forum, but I just want to be super sure that nothing has changed and I'm not going to lose UDP. Thanks ahead of time for all of the help. You guys are awesome!

So, is losing UDP by transferring the upgrade not a concern? I've spoken to a vzw rep as well and they told me I would lose udp. Is there maybe a special way to perform the transfer? Do I have to perform any of the steps in a particular place? (vzw.com, vzw store, best buy mobile, etc)

Would it also be possible to use the upgrade on line 1 and just activate on line 3 when I want to upgrade line 3?

Also, I just want to be doubly sure. Will I have to destroy the sim card that comes with either of these phones or are they ok to use?

Sorry for the mountain of questions, I really really appreciate the help.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Since line two is tdp, just buy it directly on the line, activate it,then insert the line four sim into it.

I think I may have made a small mess. I ordered a new NFC SIM from VZW for Line 4 (UDP) which had 3 yr old regular SIM. For SamsungPay to work, NFC SIM is necessary, that's why I wanted to have NFC SIM activated on my old phone (Line 4 UDP). However, my Note 7 will arrive tomorrow while the new SIM will not arrive till next week.

I read somewhere that I should not have ordered anything else until the note 7 gets activated on Line 1 and then gets used on Line 4 (UDP). Using a new Line 4 NFC SIM next week after I activate Note 7 on UDP line with my old Line 4 SIM may cause untoward consequences. I am not entirely certain if this is true or not. Any idea?

Since you have recommended to use Line 4 SIM after switching Note 7 from Line 1, wanted to check with you if there is anyway I can use original Note 7 SIM (after deactivating it from Line 1) on my UDP Line 4 and avoid above mentioned scenario of SIM switch completely. In other words, can I avoid using my old Line 4 SIM for the new Note 7?

Of course it is a concern....Verizon doesn't allow subsidized udp upgrades on unlimited data period. This is a thread about loopholes...use them at your own risk. With that said,we are recommending methods that have worked for others. But the only 100% sure way is to not do a subsidized upgrade.

Since the upgrade is coming from a tdp line, you can use any sim you wanted.

Thanks! I will keep the original N7 NanoSIM, so that I don't have to deal with cutting my current UPD line microSIM!

I used a subsidized upg and put it on my unlimited data line. No issue. Never removed or kicked off my data plan.

You got lucky then...some have reported being able to upgrade directly on their udp line and keep udp even when activating the phone.

However there are many who have reported losing udp when activating the phone on the line which udp originated from. So I give the safer recommendation.

I'm on the $49.99 UDP and was out of contract and VZW Online also let me upgrade to a subsidized Note 7 during August 2016 Note 7 Pre-Launch. All through the process it showed I could keep UDP and lock in for 2 years. No Hacks, No BB Method, and no destruction of sim card. At the time it only worked for people out of contract and on the higher $49.99 UDP and NOT the $29.99 UDP. Don't know if it was a mistake on VZW's matrix or what. I previously had to buy all my phones full retail if I wanted to keep UDP. Also, my daughters line just went out of contract and it will allow me to upgrade her to a "mePhone 7 Plus" subsidized and allow her to keep her "MAX Data" 6 gig plan for $29.99. YMMV

dpham always seem to have the best info.. Good Luck to all trying to keep their UDP..
