[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Oh fockers. Hope this isn't true after all the loopholes we've been trying to sort out from this 157 page thread.

I am waiting for my phones to arrive still and wondering if this route will work for my and then here's this glitch by Verizon and now u can upgrade without doing some dance....

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When my phone gets here, I'm thinking strongly about just putting my SIM in it and skipping the whole activating/deactivating on the other line. Worst case scenario, I'll tell Verizon I put the wrong SIM card in it and messed up my unlimited data.

I'd rather go with what's worked than forge a new path (in this instance.) The risk is just too great. If Im going to spend up-to-an-hour with Verizon, I'd rather spend that switching my line back to a dumb phone.

When one reinvents the wheel, one shouldn't come back to ask why it's not rolling. LOL.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do you have to be eligible for an upgrade in the first place to get this to work? I've been trying but no luck.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Just trying to see if there's an easier way. But you are right, why muddy the waters when the other way isn't really that difficult anyway.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Better think about this before you do it! When you upgrade you loose your Grandfathered I in plan......trust me, purchase the phone at full price from someone or the VZW store then switch Sims.......I did the dummy line......thing

Are you saying the only way to upgrade and keep unlimited is to pay full price? You say the only way is pay full price but then say you did the dummy line thing, which is it?

Reading it again, I believe ILPLEASU is saying purchase the phone at full price (which I did with the Note 2 via Device Payment Plan...that does work OR (and he did qualify that) "the VZW store then with Sims" [sic] to mean go to Verizon (or in my case Best Buy, other people have gone to Costco), upgrade a basic line, activate phone on dummy line, put the dummy phone back on the dummy line, and then put SIM from Unlimited Data line which will give your unlimited data line the new phone (which in my case will be the Note 3.) I believe ILPLEASU did the latter, from my understanding.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Alright I just purchased the HTC One yesterday at Best Buy for $49.99 which after tax came out to $102.76. This is my first time buying/upgrading my mobile device through Best Buy and thought the sales item tax, of $52.77 was kind of weird...can anyone confirm if this applies to just us living in CA?

Anyway I went ahead yesterday and upgraded the HTC One to the basic line, and after giving it a call and seeing it as an active phone on Verizon's website, I reactivated the basic phone and noticed I was forced to choose a data plan. I went ahead and chose the 75mb data package for the meantime, and quickly after called Verizon's CSR to cancel the data on the dumb line. Everything went smooth, basic line back with a basic phone for $9.99 per month and a free HTC One phone.

Now here's my question, I've waited approximately 12+hrs now since I've deactivated the One from the basic line (wanted to play it safe) should I go ahead now and activate it online to my unlimited line? If so, what would be the safest method, choosing and activating the HTC One as "I am activating a device that I previously used with this account" with the HTC One in the dropbox or " I am activating a device that I have not used with this account" by entering the MEID?

You don't have to wait. Go ahead an put it on. Doesn't matter regarding on how to select device "I am activating a device that I previously used with this account" is more convenient so you don't have to enter the MEID. Only time it gets a little confusing is if there were multiple phones of the same model at times on your account (for example replacing warranty devices), then you need to know the MEID so you select the correct one.

California charges you tax on the msrp of the device, not the subsidized price.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm still a little bit confused. I haven't received my 16GB Gold iPhone 5S that I transfered the unlimited data line to the tiered data line yet. I did receive a 32GB iPhone from another line (tiered data already) and activated if via the 1-877-807-4646 Initiate 4G LTE service instructions that came with the phone. (but the 32GB iPhone was for the another tiered data line so I wasn't doing any loophole on that phone)

Now when my Gold Iphone 5S 16GB finally arrives (this is the verizon transferred upgrade (from my unlimited data line) I used to transfer to my other tiered data.

When it arrives, if I call the 877 number it will ask for the phone number agreeing to the contract. Do I punch in my unlimited data number? Or do I punch in my tiered data line that's receiving the phone (I assume the tiered data line's new 4G LTE nano sim) that came preinstalled is for the transferred line (the tiered data line). So which number should I punch in when calling the 877 number?

Now if I were to activate the phone directly online via my verizon. Do I activate it directly onto the tiered data line and also input the nano sim's ID numbers as well? (the transferred line has a iphone 4s tiered data currently so doesn't have a 4g lte sim).

I am very confused with the agreeing to contract and activating steps. I plan on leaving the new iPhone 5S permanently on the tiered data line. My unlimited data line that I used to transfer the upgrade has the LTE sim in my Verizon iPad 100% of the time and I plan on keeping it that way.

So what steps do I do to 1. Agree to 2 year contract 2. Activate the phone.

The reason I am confused is guy on Howard Forums said he tried to call the 877 number and punch in the tiered data line to accept the 2 year extension and the system accepted it but when he went to activate the phone on his tiered data line, it wouldn't accept it. Only when he punched in his unlimited data line on the 877 number prompt did it finally accept it.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

After I activate the phone on the dummy and accept temporary data plan. How much is the bill going to be for the dummy line? do i have to pay the full $30 for 1 month?

When you put a dumb phone back on the line the data part drops off and it goes to $9.99 / mo. Some have reported that when they put the basic phone back on it requires them to chose a data line for $10/mo in addition. If this happens call Verizon and have them drop off the data part. Alternatively if you have no use for that line you can have them put a dummy MEID number on that line. You still get charged $9.99 / mo but there is no physical phone.

cool, so I don't get charge the $30 or prorated price? if I get charge the full 30 then I might as well give the phone a full spin for 1 month on the dummy line.

btw, I ordered G2 it should arrive tomorrow:)

You will only be charged data prorated for the time you keep a smart phone on it starting from time you activate it to time you put basic phone back on it so could be only a matter of minutes. When you put the smartphone on check the website to make sure it reflects that (a few minutes), then you can put the basic phone back on. Recent posts say it required them to select a data line (an additional charge over the $9.99) when they put the basic phone back on. If so select the cheapest one $10 and proceed to put the basic phone back on, then call Verizon to take off the data from the basic phone.
