[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is there an average going rate for AOL transfers for a single line? I did a quick search on Craigslist last night and saw anywhere from no price stated, to $550 for two lines and up to $600 for just one line.
Wow, those are higher than what I have seen them going for in the not too distant past. Check ebay and there was an online site where people offer up their lines to sell for an AOL to get out of paying an ETF.

Try posting a separate thread asking this question since this thread is really about keeping UDP, not about buying one.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What about disallowing upgrades to transfer off the unlimited lines, or disallowing upgrade transfers at all?
That they can do. That idea was posted not too long ago in this thread.

Verizon knows we do this and for whatever reason, probably because there are so few of us who do it, Verizon allows it.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I bought my UDP through eBay for $300.. now they are selling for about $200 for a individual line. Just search Verizon unlimited data and make sure seller has a good ebay history.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

this confuses me, I've been reading the other thread, and still not sure how it works

break it down real quick: 1)My dad's line has a dumbphone (he's primary acct owner) 2)Me: UDP with the S3 3)My mom has an Iphone with 2GB tiered plan

I stole my dad's upgrade 2 years ago so I could get the S3 before they nixed the unlimited data plan..my line is the only one available for upgrade, my mom has a few months to go and my dad has a while

Go to Verizon website, sign in, click on upgrade my device, under your current phone there will be an option for' transfer upgrade', click that and choose your mom's number, click next, add gold note 3 to cart, skip through accessories and device protection if you don't want any, in the review cart section type in VZWDEAL in the promo code box at the end of the page, click ok and the new price 149 should appear, from there choose your shipping option and pay for the phone...remember the total would be 179.99 plus tax due to upgrade fee...I hope that clears it all for you

Critical step: When the phone arrives (if you choose to have it shipped) make sure you activate it on your mom's line first, reactivate her iPhone and then you can use your old SIM in the new phone...also buy a SIM cutter

Lots of people including me would leave.

I think their misinformation campaign keeps the number of people doing this very low and the average person would see they don't use that much data and change to one of their tiered plans. Also they may lose customers. I know if they closed this loophole I'd be off to T-Mobile in a minute.

I agree 200ish is more in the ballpark

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Follow up question. When I go to transfer the upgrade at the VZW website it does not actually appear to transfer.

phone.png

When I click next it takes me to the page where I can select phones. The price difference in phones between the line that has been eligible for upgrade since 2012 is maybe only $50. When I select a data option on the line I select the 2GB plan and move to next screen. It appears that I can upgrade the dumb phone line for ~$150 to Galaxy S4 mini, drop data on the dumb phone line after a day, re-activate original dumb phone, and then activate the Galaxy s4 mini on the UDP line? Why should I "transfer" the upgrade from the UDP line to the dumb phone line?

Am I missing something obvious?

yeah, Verizon had 4G LTE over a year before ATT had it where I live so I switched from ATT to Verizon. But Verizon's 4G LTE signal is weak lots of places where I live, too. Not sure about ATT's but if Verizon ever took my subsidized phone or UDP away, back to ATT I would go assuming their signal is decent where I live.

I would probably go with the $130 plan for 2 lines with 10GB of data shareable and no subsidized phones. I would save about $40/mo so that would give me an extra $960 over 2 years to spend on phones.

Actually, after activating on his Mom's line first, he can then just reprogram the SIM that came with the GNote3 to work on his UDP line and he won't lose his UDP. So after you activate the GNote3 on your Mom's line first, turn off the GNote 3 and log onto Verizon and:

1) Select My Verizon, Activate or Switch a Device and select your mom's line;
2) Select that you are activating a device that has already been active on this account;
3) You will get a drop down menu and your mom's iPhone will be listed - select it, if it asks you for the SIM card number, pop the SIM card out of your Mom's iPhone to read the SIM card number and type in the SIM card number, then replace the SIM card in the iPhone; and
4) Continue to follow the directions to reactivate your mom's iPhone back on her line.

At this point, your mom's iPhone will be back on her line and you can put the GNote3 on your UDP line without losing your UDP. To do that you turn off the phone currently on your UDP line and repeat the steps above except select your UDP line and substitute GNote3 for iPhone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Isn't your UDP line your DINC line? .
Yes, it is. The above screenshot is what the page looked like after selecting "Transfer Upgrade." Here is what it looked like before:

I suppose the transfer does not really happen until you make a purchase, because every time my session times out and I login again, the transfer dates are reset to what is in this screenshot.

Yes, that is correct. The transfers don't stick. You have to make a purchase right after the transfer or the transfer reverses itself. So if you buy in store at Best Buy or Costco, the rep needs to do the transfer. Be careful to make sure that they do it properly if you go that route.

FYI - the GNote3 is on sale at Verizon for $150 with a code if you are looking at that phone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Now is a great time to add a line if you need to for upgrade transfers!

Verizon to offer $100 bill credit on new lines from Feb. 7th to 28th | Android Central

Since there is no activation fee, either, you could get a 16GB iPhone 5s with the Best Buy reserve gift card promo for $150 + $12 sales tax where I live.

For me, the cost of the line over 2 years would be $312, and with the $100 bill credit, $212. So the iPhone 5s would cost me $374 including the cost of the line.

If I sold it on swappa for $425, I would break even since after swappa fee, paypal fees and insured shipping that would be about $50. So if I sold for above $425, the amount above $425 would be pure profit! You should be able to get a minimum of $525 for it so that would be a profit of $100 AND you would have a line to transfer upgrades to if you don't already have one.

Don't forget that Verizon is offering a minimum $100 for trading in a smartphone, too!

Thanks. The Galaxy s4 mini will go on my UDP line until May. In May, when another upgrade is available I"ll buy the HTC One+ (or whatever it's called) put that on the UDP and move the Galaxy s4 mini to my wife's line.

you need to sign up for the Best Buy $50 reserve gift card for both of the basic phone lines if you are planning on keeping the 3rd line. If not, then at least sign up for it for your wife's line. When you transfer your upgrade to her line, if her number has signed up for the best buy reserve gift card, you will get $50 off the phone.

Figures that I just added two new lines 3 days ago and now they have a discount going on lol. I always miss out. I doubt if I called them they would allow me to use it.

You should at least get the $30 courtesy credit!

By any chance could you tell me the code to get the note 3 for $150? Thanks !
