[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Alright, I think I've figured out what I want to do, but I need some help here. I have 2 lines on my account in which I have the primary line. My primary line is an unlimited data plan on month to month, as I bought my last phone for full retail (Note 2.) I have 1 additional line on the account- my wife's- and she has a 2 gb for $30 per month data plan on hers.
I want to add an additional third line to my account and use that new line to buy the Note 3 at a subsidized price. Is is possible to add another line to my account now without losing or affecting my unlimited data? Or will adding a line at this point cost me my unlimited data plan? I was hoping to just put the new third line on a 2gb for $30 per month plan. I thought I read that this was no longer possible. I appreciate any help here, thanks.

It shouldn't change anything on your account....

Do you have an upgrade available on your primary line?

It sounds like you do.... You can transfer your upgrade to your wife's line purchase the new phone on your wife's then switch it to your line.

Won't change your plan... Or her's

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks for the quick reply. I do not have an upgrade available on my primary account. I just want to add an additional third line and buy the Note 3 on it at a subsidized price. I was just hoping that it wouldn't affect my unlimited primary line. I read somewhere that doing this would force me into a share everything account and cost me my unlimited.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Just bought the LG G2 last night, for $49.99 + $12 tax. Costco only charges tax on the wholesale price, whereas through Best Buy or Verizon the sales tax is charged based on the retail price... which would have been closer to $50 instead of $12. There's also the $30 upgrade fee which will show up on the bill.

Anyways, my UDP should still be intact, and we used my line's upgrade. But I have a family plan with several dumb phone lines (no upgrade eligible) so we took advantage of that.
Where's more-or-less what they do, and this is actually a standard practice even through Verizon (if you come in contact with the right rep):
1) They transfer the upgrade from my UDP line to a dumb phone line.
2) They activate the new phone through their system with a dummy SIM (not my old one) on the dumb phone line.
3) They re-activate the dumb phone on the dumb phone line (they don't actually need the dumb phone to do this, but that line will be unavailable to the dumb phone for about 5mins).
4) They used my old SIM card to activate the new phone on my UDP line.

So in the end the net result is like the result of the steps in this Best Buy thread: I use my upgrade to get a new phone on my UDP line, get a 2-year contract extension, and keep UDP. So far so good.

Please let us know after a week or two if your UDP stayed intact.

May have just answered my own question here:

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative, we appreciate your patience. Your current estimated wait time is 1 min 1 secs.

I can’t wait to tell you how you can get MORE! Ask me about our new MORE Everything Plans now!

Your RealTime session ID is RT19198704967.
You are now chatting with 'Alicia C'
Alicia C: Hi and welcome to Verizon Wireless Sales Chat, my name is Alicia C.. May I have your name, please?
Me: Darryl
Me: I really just have one quick question
Alicia C: How are you Darryl?
Me: Good good
Me: I have an account with two lines- the primary line on an unlimited data plan line and the second additional line on a 2gb $30 a month plan. If I want to add a third line to my account, can I do that and just give that line a 2gb $30 a month data plan also. And will this affect my unlimited data plan - meaning can I keep unlimited data on that primary line still?
Alicia C: You will have to chnage to the more everythinig plan..
Me: Gotcha, which would mean losing the unlimited data plan. So basically, I can not add any more additional lines to my plan if I want to keep unlimited data on the primary account?
Alicia C: Yes. And no if you add any more lines you will loose the unlimited..
Me: Thank you, that is all I wanted to know. You were most helpful.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Please let us know after a week or two if your UDP stayed intact.

You got it.
It sounds like Verizon has a 14-day no-questions-asked sort of return policy. So if during that time my UDP disappears you can bet I'm heading straight back to the store and re-activating my Galaxy S3!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I've been reading this forum as well as the one prior to the development of this forum - titled "Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?"

I understand this is an android forum, however I have an iPhone 4S on Verizon. We have a family plan - that includes all smart phones. Three iPhone 5's with a 2GB data plan on each and my iPhone 4S with unlimited data. I'd love to keep my unlimited data plan, but I don't know the best route to take. The problem is that I would be unable to do the SIM card swap because I have 3G with the iPhone 4S SIM card now looking to upgrade to the 4G LTE Micro card (iPhone 5S), and I would rather not have to do engage in the best buy hassle like previously stated in the other forum.

Was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions?

Appreciate it.

Which lines have available upgrades? If it's your iPhone then you can do the steps mentioned in post 261 above...You can use the SIM card included in the new phone to activate in your line

I apologize - new to using this forum so I'm unaware of how to quote. I know that's terrible..

Yes my iPhone 4S has the UDP and has the availible upgrade. Like I said the family plan has three other iPhone 5's with 2 GB data plan on each. Unfortunately, there is not a "dumb" phone on the family plan. I reread post #261 above, from my understanding you would need that "dumb" phone line to ensure you retain the UDP correct? or did i misunderstand that?

Also, ideally I have a gift card through BB and they have a cheaper price than Verizon so it would be great to go through them if possible..

Thanks for the help.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So after reading through this thread I decided to give it a shot, and ordered an HTC One a couple of days ago. It just arrived, I swapped out the SIM from my dying Droid 4, and called the number to activate expecting it to fail. However, it activated successfully and now my account shows 2gb of data... did I miss a step somewhere? I'm really not looking forward to fighting to have this all undone and then find some other way to get a new phone that doesn't lock up every 5 minutes...

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

May have just answered my own question here:

I just added a fifth line to my plan last week with a 2GB data package without losing unlimited data on my existing 4 lines.

Call and get another rep.

probably because you called...don't call, as I've said and other said many times, swap it and turn phone on, that's it

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Really, well that is encouraging. How did you add the line? Did you do it yourself online, call a rep on the phone or do it in a store?

It is because it was called and activated. That's exactly what I did, and no Verizon will not reverse it.

This needs its own thread or something. I researched the Best Buy method pretty thoroughly and still missed that you should just swap sims and not call/go online to activate the phone.

I started to do it online but then ended up having a couple of questions so I called in. I was originally going to just get my questions answered and then complete the transaction online. However, the rep I spoke with was very clear on what I wanted so I finished it over the phone. He walked through every step of the process confirming with me (multiple times) what was happening and that it was what I wanted. Everything worked perfectly.

If it worked perfectly you would still have your UDP. Only course now would be to return it, I'm guessing that still works?
