It will have to be a Verizon 4G phone correct? And then I will have to activate the SIM that came with that phone etc. I don't think it will work in this case.

You can buy a cheap 4g smartphone from swappa then ask Verizon for a SIM card to activate the new phone...if someone you know has a spare 4g phone you can use that too...

you can either go to the store, call verizon, or talk to an online customer rep and ask for a free 4G sim card. i can confirm this because I also had an iPhone 4s and talked to an online Verizon agent, told them that I have an iPhone 4S and want to use a friend's iPhone 5 and need a 4G sim card. They promptly shipped one to me free of charge. Received it within 2 days.

Thanks. A quick question though. Even if they send me a free 4G sim card, how will I be able to keep the UDP. Doesn't it have to be from my current phone? How would you recommend that I accomplish this? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Say that you got the new phone as a gift or payed in full. So that they won't question the request and CANNOT LEGALLY take away your UDP

That LG G2 deal is pretty good at Best Buy (0$ right now), so I might jump. But as soon as I add it to cart there is a box with a warning saying I will loose unlimited data. Is that standard here or is this a new wrinkle (i.e., that Best Buy and Verizon have "fixed" this loophole)?

Ok, guys. I went through all the process with BB and ordered my new Note 3--upgrading my phone (from Galaxy S3), choosing "keep existing plan", taking screen shots along the way, and then having sent to my home. Will let you know how it all works out. Excited!

I called their automated line just now and it said that my pre-activation failed. Hmm, so I just called them and there was an issue with Verizon communicating with the phone. He mentioned something about a preset. He said he will dispatch to a back office and it should be an easy fix. Hmm, we shall see.

But obviously switch to one Unlimited Data accounts.

Do you think this will still work when the new HTC one comes out on Tuesday, if it even still works at all? I saw that Best Buy is going to have an exclusive color for the HTC one so I would imagine that they'll try to stop this before its released and maybe that's why BB called to modify the order that was mentioned earlier.

I've been waiting for this phone to come out and I would love to get it and keep my UDP.if anyone has had success with this in the past few days I would love to know.

I went through the steps on BB to see if it would let me keep my UDP for the M8 and I was forced to select a Service option for "More Everything - Smartphone Line Access". The option costs $40 and looks like it would kill my UDP. I went back and tried the same thing with a Samsung S4, the Note 3 and an iPhone 5s, but none of them had this new Service option and it looked like they would let me go through.

Has anyone else seen this yet? Know of anyway around it?

I dug up the 6gb for $30 email offer that I got from Verizon (one of the many offers that I'm sure you all got to try to get you off of unlimited) a few months ago and did an online chat with a Verizon rep. She confirmed that I was eligible for it, called the Loyalty Max plan, and that I could get it without doing that Edge deal. She also confirmed that they will still offer me the 6gb for $30 when I upgrade again in 2 years. The rep that I spoke with at the store confirmed the same thing.

I know some people don't want to lose unlimited, but 6gb is more than enough for me. If the Best Buy trick is no longer working, dig up the email Verizon sent you that offered 6gb for $30 and at least you can go with that.

You are right, the 6gb isnt so bad. And the 10 gb includes mobile hot spot.

Yep, was an issue. They did switch me to the 2gb plan--saw it show up on the verizon site pretty quickly. BB said I should have been notified by Verizion that I could not keep the UDP. ?? I could have pushed the issue since i had all screen shots but just not worth that hassle to me.

Spoke to the Verizon rep and they did say I could qualify for the 6gb plan. I was ready for the Note 3 and it is OK if loose the unlimited data plan in return for not waiting another 5 months to upgrade the phone. 6gb should be enough for me. And he analyzed my plan and with other small change I could actually save $20 a month. LOL. The only issue was that he couldn't do anything to my plan until I actually got the phone.

It was worth to try this to keep my unlimited plan though. And the BB price for Note 3 was $199 versus $299 at Verizon.

So appreciated this string and happy for those that it did work for.

Did you get the phone and just weren't able to activate it or did they flag it before the phone was ever delivered? I ordered my Note 3 on Monday and it is set to be delivered today. Fingers crossed it will activate with my old SIM.

Edit....I see now that it looks like you got the phone. Uh-oh. Looks like my renewal date may have been a week too late.

Is there a way to use the upgrade on the basic line to get one M8, then remove that phone, transfer another upgrade to that line, and repeat to get both M8s for $199 total and not lose UDPs?

The catch is it has to be one transaction.

You should be able to do this.... But not all at the same time. Transfer upgrade order one phone upgrade activate.... Then a few days later do the other one. I doubt you can do it all at the same time.

Unless you know a guy at Verizon that you trust.. Maybe they could do it there. I wouldn't even try a corporate store.

Yea, I haven't been able to do it with getting the BOGO intact. O well, I'll switch wife's unlimited to the 6gb/$30. She never goes that high.
