[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

A word of caution with activation on Line 1. The phone will arrive with a Sim (nano size?) that has already been associated with Line 2 and the data plan selected when the phone was purchased. For this reason, I would recommend trashing this Sim and getting a new one that is associated with Line 1 and the UDP. Verizon will give you one at one of their corporate stores or you can order one to be mailed to you.

Has anyone confirmed that it is pre-associated with line 2? I suspect it gets associated with line 2 when people first activate on Line 2 then take it off. If you activate on Line 1 first without first activating on Line 2 I would suspect it's a virgin SIM. In which case it will ask for the number of the SIM when you activate it.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Weird update...so I called Verizon expecting a big fight and hassle. I explained the situation to the rep and she said the company line that whenever I upgrade at the discounted rate, I lose UDP. Then she said that the system allowed her to put my UDP back on my account! She said I should just refuse delivery of the new phone.

Logged out of my Verizon account and then logged back in, and sure enough my UDP is back and still shows my contract extended for 2 years! :)

Now I'm wondering if I should tempt fate (again) and keep the new phone and just switch out the SIM cards or not. lol

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Nope. I called Thursday before receiving the phone and was told they would submit it but it wasn't likely to be approved. I called back on Saturday and tried and after being transferred around a few times a supervisor finally said no. Then the rep went on to tell me that because it was a contract phone I couldn't even return it in the store, despite only having the phone for 1 day. I hung up the phone and headed straight to Best Buy. I was able to successfully return the opened phone (though the CSR processed it as an unopened return) and then immediately resold it to me for $100 less. It's been a day and my account is still Unlimited and my upgrade date is still two years from my original online order date.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Jklaz, Thanks for the info. At the end of the month when my contact expires I'm going to give it a try. At least I can get 6 gig of data if it fails.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

So is this change in UDP happening only for those who order from mobile site or randomly to others following all the steps and ordering from regular site? Anyone been able to make this work simply by ordering SIM cards from vz and plugging into new phones without using other 4g phone?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Just an update- ordered the HTC One M8 on 5/3, got it and activated on 5/9 and UDP is still in effect. I ordered a nano sim from verizon before I placed the BB order and used that. All good so far!

Did you have to activate the Verizon SIM in another phone before using it in the M8?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I think it'll be two weeks this week, but here's another update. I have my M8, I really like it, and my UDP is still there - no hiccups at all. I will say, after using the SIM cutter to cut my Micro to a Nano - I wouldn't have tried cutting by hand. In my opinion if you're in a situation like me and you have to cut down a SIM, just buy the cutter and use that.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I did this a few weeks back.... And they moved the date on the dummy line so last week I was able to update again for free.... Wooo hooo!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So here is our setup. My phone is on Line 2 and I'd like to keep unlimited. Since we already did the transfer upgrade to LIne 3 dummy phone, etc., I wasn't sure if we'd be able to try again. My Maxx is giving me nothing but problems and I want a new phone bad!!!!

Line 1 - - UDP - Galaxy Note 2 - - this line was just upgraded using an upgrade transferred from Line 3 (basic smartphone) - - somehow this line is eligible for an upgrade even though technically he got the Note 6 months ago or so

Line 2 - - UDP - Droid Razr Maxx - - my line - - not eligible for upgrade. I want a new Galaxy S5

Line 3 - - no data plan - - Samsung Intensity - - not eligible for upgrade

Should I transfer the upgrade to Line 3, then when the phone arrives, activate on Line 2? Or activate on line 3, wait a day or so, then activate old basic phone and then activate the new phone on Line 2?

When we transferred the Line 3 upgrade to Line 1 for my husband's Galaxy Note, I don't think we did anything with the sims card.......though I do think he activated the new phone on Line 3 and then deactivated and transferred to Line 1.

Hope all this is making sense.

So let me get this straight:
I have 2 old iphone 4 (3G & no SIM) with UDP and upgrades available.
I have ordered 2 new simcards from VZ on the way.
I can order 2 new phones (bestbuy method I suppose) and simply remove simcards that come in the phones before powering on.
Insert new simcards that I ordered from VZ and the new phones will automatically activate without losing UDP?

I have read others using this method but using another 4G phone prior to swapping simcards.
Is this possible going from 3G, not activating simcards with another 4G phone, and simply plugging in simcard from VZ?

Thank you!

I'm not that familiar with the Best Buy method, perhaps someone else can advise on that. The method I would use is to transfer you upgrades to the Non UDP line to order a phone, then when it comes activate the phone on your UDP line. You can use the SIM cards you ordered from Verizon, (though it is not clear to me that you couldn't use the SIM that comes with the phone either). But since you have the SIMs anyway you can use them. It seems like the Best Buy method involves swapping the SIM out.

Anytime.

I received my two Galaxy s5's today. We have 5 lines, but two of us decided to guinea pig incase anything goes wrong. I got the phones (both on 60% battery), took out their sims, powered off my old phones, took out those sims and plugged them in the s5's, then powered on the s5's. Plan hasn't changed but date is extended. Both phones work wonderfully.

I must say.. the new touchwiz is to my liking. It's REALLY smooth. No hiccups at all.. my galaxy s3 would stutter about 2-3 times a week on different tasks. The camera is reallllly nice and the hdr and selective focus make for great shots. Also one feature you guys might not know about.. the snapdragon processors now have fast charging mode. My phone went from 11% to 60% in 35minutes! And we're talking a 2800 mah battery. Overall I'm very impressed, build quality and software. The screen is so beautiful i highly recommend

Don't have a non-UDP line. Would this still work without transferring upgrades?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ha, as other posters said, I'm oddly nervous about this. Ordered HTC One M8 ($150, versus $99 at Verizon, and $5-more-expensive upgrade charge) but get the impression it won't arrive for a while... disappointing, but worth it to keep UDP. Fingers crossed...

(Long time reader, first time poster. Hello, hello.)

Oh, so you just have two phones each with UDP and with upgrades?

You can try the Best Buy method then described on this thread:

Or you could try this method described by FlyingArrow:

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok so I followed the steps and ordered my phone yesterday and my upgrade date is already changed on Verizon's site showing my s3 with UDP. The last step I have is to put my s3 sim into my s5 right?

Will trash my s5 sim on sight.

Was it because of you company discount the pre-activation failed? I also have a company discount on my account (26% off the voice and data since I work for one of those companies that qualifies) with the unlimited data. Did anyone else who have a company discount have any problems?

Wow, nice discount - company I work for has a 15% voice 20% data discount and I thought I was fortunate!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I know this sounds stupid but you dont know unless you ask. Will this work if you order from VerizonWireless.com? It is my wifes upgrade time and I'm using it to get the S5, she dosent want to loose her Iphone. She dosent have the unlimited plan but I still do. I need to keep it because I'm a photographer and do alot of networking on my phone. I'm using the web site because I add it to my next bill. Any answers would be great. Thanks a bunch.
