[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

How do I know which line is primary? I ordered on bb ....kept same plan ....and my plan changed within the hour of ordering the phone. Had to cancel order and fight like hell with verizon to get udp back. Does this only work by ordering on best buy with the primary line? When I look on my verizon account....how do I know which line is primary?

I don't think there is way to tell which line is primary. I asked verizon rep when I called them for some issue and he told me which line was the primary on our family plan. That's one way to find out. Ordering from a secondary line shouldn't result in UDP loss before the phone even arrives. I have never heard that and I myself have ordered from a secondary line and not had issue like that. You might have messed up while ordering.

I suggest calling verizon and asking them which line on your account is primary and than order the phone using the primary line and take screen shots. I lost my UDP on the first attempt and I'm currently in the process of the 2nd attempt so don't give up. Also keep in mind it doesn't matter what line you order the phone on you can stick that phone on any line you want when it arrives.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is this correct???

If you have a UDP smartphone device and a non UDP smartphone device

1.) Log into MyVerizon on the Verizon Wireless website.

2.) When you're at the main page on MyVerizon, click on the device that is NOT unlimited and click "Upgrade My Device".

3.) You should see all the devices on your account, again click the one that is NOT unlimited. Underneath that device it should say "transfer upgrade" and it'll ask you to select that upgrade from another device. Select it from your UDP device.

4.) Run through the upgrade process with your non UDP device until you reach the shipping page. You'll notice the only changes happening are to the non UDP device, it does not touch your UDP line.

5.) At the shipping page, select ship to home. Do not do store pickup, Verizon store associates are told and forced to remove your unlimited data when doing store pickups. They attempted to do this to me three times.

6.) Once you get to the final confirmation page, take screenshots of your confirmation, and that it did not touch your UDP. I highly doubt they can remove it at this point, but its good to have proof that you did not authorize a change if they did do it.

7.) When you receive the phone through the mail, activate it on the non UDP line. Once it has been activated, you can now transfer it over to the UDP line. You should now see that your UDP contract has been extended two years.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I’ve read many pages of this thread and still a bit uncertain, as most of the posts revolve around retaining unlimited data in plans with multiple lines and phones. I have one phone, a Motorola Razr Maxx HD, that I would like to replace with a new Samsung S5, and would like to retain my unlimited data plan. Verizon has the S5’s on sale this week for $100, but will not permit me to retain my plan, though they will do me a “favor” and let me retain my plan with 6Gb for $10 less than I am currently paying. Best Buy on line currently has the S5 for $150, not sure if they will price match Verizon. Can I order an S5 from Best Buy online, have it shipped to my home, switch SIM cards before turning on the new phone and retain my unlimited data plan without having a second line or phone to swap?

That's what I did. I got my HTC One M8 yesterday. My old sim card from my Thunderbolt has been cut by me with scissors, put it in my new phone, and BAM it works

Used scissors to cut the sim now that's badass.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

I just ordered a phone on all four lines. Only one worked and shipped. That it was the primary line. Then we remembered it was the first smart phone activated on that plan. If you loose udp you are doing something wrong. If you follow the op directions you won't loose udp.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

On the Best Buy website, when I click the Add To Package button, it opens a Build Your Mobile Package box, which for Current Verizon Customers, the options are Upgrade My Device, Add A New Device or Replace My Device (No Contract Extension). On the bottom of the screen is a blue box with the message: There’s a change from Verizon Wireless with Unlimited Data Plans, so when you upgrade, you will be switched to the most common 2 Gb plan by default.

Has the option of keeping unlimited data on a single line plan as described in this thread ended? If not, can someone outline the steps of placing the Best Buy order?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Which of the three options do I use on the Best Buy Build Your Own Mobile Package?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

The error with order came up and asked me to call to verify passwords and such. Then I was on a 3 way call with verizon and best buy to make sure I was eligible for an upgrade (which it had been over 3 years). I guess that was my mistake. I should have just canceled the order as soon as there was a problem with it.
I just called verizon and found out the primary line is the line NOT eligible for an upgrade. This is the line NOT on udp. How do I place an order on best buy if the primary line isnt eligible for an upgrade.....but the 2 udp lines are eligible?

You don't have to use the best buy method. You can transfer the upgrade from the UDP lines one at a time to the non UDP and order the phones there.

Make sure the First Selection is picked. The blue box stating the 2GB plan only take affect if you use the SIM card that came with the phone. You need to use your current sim card in the new phone. DO NOT turn the new phone on with the new sim card that came in it or with it, depending on model, or you will lose your UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I thought this was relevant to those of us on unlimited data plans and those of us that have been successful in this method.

According to Verizon, here are the criteria that have to be met in order for 3G, and soon 4G, data speeds to be throttled:

Top 5% of data users (you use 4.7GB of data per month or more)
Enrolled on an unlimited data plan or feature
Have fulfilled their minimum contract term
Are attempting to use data on a cell site that is experiencing high demand

According to the report, Verizon will begin notifying subscribers of the policy change on August 1st with the following notice:
Wireless strives to provide its customers with the best wireless experience when using our network. In 2011, Verizon Wireless launched Network Optimization, which slows the data speeds of its unlimited data subscribers with 3G devices who are in the top 5% of data users when they connect to a cell site experiencing high demand. Effective October 1, Verizon Wireless will expand its existing Network Optimization policy to include its unlimited data subscribers using 4G LTE devices who have fulfilled their minimum contract term. Based on your plan and recent data usage, one or more lines on your account may experience a reduction in data speeds when connected to a cell site experiencing high demand. Customers on MORE Everything or other usage-based data plans are not subject to Network Optimization. For more information about our Network Optimization, please refer to https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...erizon.com/networkoptimization&token=VvyR0Jsh.

Are you a Verizon customer with unlimited data? Get ready to be throttled

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Mr. Toad, Vegas863, interpolate, and anyone who knows about upgrading through a dumb line at Best Buy -

I've looked around on this thread, not sure if I missed it, but don't think I got an answer to the following questions:

Line 1 (Primary) - UDP Upgrade Avail
Line 2 Dumb - Upgrade Avail

I have a giftcard from Best Buy that I want to use. I wanted to get the LG G3 and have to pickup from the store.

After upgrading the dumb line, adding a data plan, and activating the phone, how long should you wait to deactivate the data plan? Do you re-activate the dumb phone first and then drop data? Does the data automatically drop after re-activating the dumb phone? How do you go about dropping the data?

Oh ok. Thanks for the help! I always thought that if I transfer my udp line upgrade to the NON upd line.....then I lose my unlimited.

When it arrives just directly activate it on the UDP line. Everything else sounds right and I haven't done this kind of upgrade so hopefully someone with more knowledge can also fill in for you.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

You're using an s5 on the line but it's still showing an s3?

Sorry I just jumped back on here. Yes its still showing as if I have a s3. I'm considering dropping my insurance to get squaretrade insurance on the phone as I doubt they'll end up covering my phone if it shows I have an s3 and I'm trying to get an s5 out of it. Not really sure how I can change this without having some issue with my upgrade come up.

I'm also experience microphone problems so I may have to send the phone back anyways. I'll jump back on and let everyone know how the return process works.
