[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Happy to report recent success via Amazon. Ordered on 8/13/2014, received my new LG G3 the next day on 8/14/2014. Immediately took out the new SIM card from the G3 then put in my old SIM card from my Galaxy S3. Booted it up, it recognized that my phone number is already setup and active. I logged into my Verizon account online, and it already shows the G3 as my current phone, contract extended 2 years, and data shows UNLIMITED. Billing cycle ends in a few days so I'll double-check again just to make sure.

Big thanks to the folks that figured this out, that Amazon works, and the success stories that gave me the confidence to try this for myself!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

yes, just activate the nano sim you ordered using the adapter in the rezound first. Then toss the nano sim that comes with the moto x and instead use the previously activated nano sim in the moto x. Of course, do not turn the moto x on until you have removed the sim it ships with.

Is there something I need to do on the Web site or do I call a CSR?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If you don't see it labeled next to picture of the phone on the account you ordered the phone it's already gone. It doesn't always take a week to fall off, many have reported that it fell off immediately. If it still shows the old basic phone plan $10/mo then your good, it's gone.

Yes, i do not see any data plan associated with the basic line. The charges are still $9.99/mo.
Thank you for your confirmation.

block data on the line and you should be fine.
I am not sure i want to do this... When i try to block data and review the changes to the line, it reads kind of like follows:

.....................................(Old Charges)..........(New Charges)
[New] Block all data:.............. -...........................$0.00
[New]Block web:.................... -...........................$0.00

So i am not sure if i am better off leaving the phone line being not associated with data at all, rather than blocking a non-existent (hopefully) data plan.

Can I trim my old sim and then activate the new phone with it on the web? Or do I need to follow the steps from the OP where I call to have it activated with the phone turned off and then talk to someone? I'm confused about that part too.

there is nothing more to do once you pop your old sim in a new phone and turn it on. That's it, that is all you need to do. you don't need to log onto verizon online.

do not call verizon. they can take your udp away.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok. I was thinking that the phone IMEI and the SIM had to be linked together on VZ's side and that was what the activation was for. Are you saying that I can interchangeably swap my sim into any phone without any kind of activation?

yes, the sim is already active on your line. Pop it into any 4G LTE phone and it will work in that phone as long as the IMEI of the phone is in verizon's database of imei numbers. No phone will work on verizon's network unless the imei number is in verizon's database.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Probably a dumb question but I thought I should ask:

Here's my situation:
Line 1 (UDP with Upgrade Available)
Line 2 (Dumbphone)

What I'd like to do, is transfer my upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2, purchase a G3 and then sell it on eBay.

Would I run into any issues? Would I have to activate the G3 on Line 1 before selling it? Would the person purchasing the phone be able to activate it on their account without issue? Would the data plan added to my dumbphone line drop off automatically or would I have to do anything?

Thanks in advance.

that will work fine now, you will keep UDP. However, no one knows if that will work starting on the 25th of august.

Would I run into any issues? Would I have to activate the G3 on Line 1 before selling it?
you will be left with a pending activation on line 2 that should fall off eventually, but sometimes it doesn't and you have to call and have tier 2 techs remove it.

Would the person purchasing the phone be able to activate it on their account without issue?
yes, just remove the sim card before you sell it.

Would the data plan added to my dumbphone line drop off automatically or would I have to do anything?
it should, if not block data on the line. But again i am talking about before 8/25/14.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Thanks for the help. Looks like all is well. To sum it up, I ended up with a new HTC M8 for $99 and did not have to use an upgrade due to a BB screw up. So far I still have my UDP and I'm off contract. :D

I would use the upgrade to get back on contract before 10/1/14 to avoid throttling.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

How would I use my upgrade? They specifically told me that if I used my upgrade that I automatically lose my grandfathered plan. I'm on an individual plan if that means anything to you.

Don't do it . But why wouldn't you want to be in contract?
