[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Speaking of the new Moto X, I believe it uses a nano SIM. Currently I do not own or use nano SIMs, so if I ordered a nano from Verizon how do I go about activating it on my current device (with adapter) to prep the card?

Re: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Just ordered from costco, so if I understand correctly, when the phone arrives simply swap in my old SIM card before powering it on? Anything else?

Got my G3 in the mail Friday from amazon, swapped sims, inserted battery, turned on, and Wa-la, it works! So far so good! Nice phone too!

When you upgraded through Amazon what did you do before check out in regards to data plan? It shows me that I have to select a limited data plan. Did you just go with it and pick one then did the normal sim swap when you got it and keep ULD?

I'm thinking no but does verizon allow early upgrades?

Yes, exactly.

Re: Verizon Audit of UDP Lines On the Way?

I wouldn't be too mad... Giving them a heads up doesn't matter. Verizon knows people are doing this.. They're not oblivious to it. They make billions of dollars.. Trust me.. They have people looking into things all the time. They knew about the whole upgrade loop hole and just waited to close it.

Likewise with this loop.. Any Verizon employee who was seeing if people were using a loop hole could look at accounts and see what they did.... They also could just Google and get threads like these (and others) within public Forums to see people talking about it just like us :).

Re: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Well, this could be the final straw in my efforts to keep my UDP...
I was planning on purchasing the new iphone 6 at full retail and not risking the BB method (I know it costs more up front, but I am just wanting to minimize the risk of losing the UDP everywhere I can). I currently have an iphone 4 on my UDP line (its the only line I have). I do not have a 4G LTE or any sim card. SO...even if I get a 4G LTE sim from Verizon how can I activate the new iphone 6 with a sim that doesn't already recognize my UDP?
Thanks again for everyone's input in this thread. It is a great resource for those of us trying to work through these changes.

Simply buy an inexpensive phone online that's 4g

is there any way of extending contract without buying a phone via the best buy method? Say I want to buy it retail?

Re: Verizon Audit of UDP Lines On the Way?

At the end of the day, UDPs still exist because Verizon lets them exist. They are trying to knock off the "low-hanging fruit" by getting rid of UDPs on accounts that are willing to give them up without much effort. I don't doubt that they will force everyone off eventually. I think Verizon is limited in what they can do by the C-block rules they agreed to, so we haven't seen the outright limit on UDPs like AT&T used. The end will still come eventually, one way or another.

That being said, this is just a rumor. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

All you would be doing is getting a phone, taking it to verizon and having them install a 4g sim card. This will not effect your UDP. Or I would recommend calling a store and telling them you will be getting a phone from a friend but need a sim card. Go to the store and pick it up, then do it yourself. The sim card should be free if you go to a Corp. Verizon store and not a retail Verizon store. I just don't like dealing with reps when I don't have to. You would then have to activate the phone through myverizon.com. You can navigate through the proper procedure from there.

Buying a retail phone won't extend it. Are you on a single plan or family account? If you are on a family you could use the transfer upgrade. Some people have gotten that to stop work after August 24th.

But then how would switching the phone on my UDP from my current iphone 4 to this new "inexpensive phone" be any different from switching my current iphone 4 to a new iphone 6? In both cases the new phones require a 4G LTE nano sim that is not present on my iphone 4.

oops.. I didn't see your post above until I had already pressed reply...

I am on a family plan, 2 unlimited, 1 base phone line. I just want to extend as i use over 6gb a month on each unlimited. thanks

UDP help Please - I'm confused.

I am very confused after trying to read a lot of the udp posts.
I have Line 1 2gb eligible for upgrade (Samsung Galaxy S3). Line 2 has udp also eligible for upgrade (also Samsung Galaxy S3).
I just purchased (but not yet received) a Galaxy S5 from Amazon that I used the Line 1 for upgrade.
Is there any way to use this S5 phone on the Line 2 udp without losing udp.

Should I activate the new S5 on Line 1, switch Line 1 back to the original S3, then try to use the S5 for Line 2? Most of what I read is for upgrading from non-data lines. Both of these phones are on a Verizon Family Plan.

Can anyone please help with instructions if this is possible. Or let me know if this would not be possible to do.
Thank you very much for your help.

I was in exactly the same situation- using iPhone4 and needing to get a 4G SIM so I old keep my UDP.

I borrowed a friend's old 4G verizon phone. Went to a VZW where they gave me a SIM and swapped my service from my iPhone to the old 4G phone. Next day I placed order for my Note3 at BestBuy.com

After it arrived I put my week old SIM into my new Note3.
Easy peasy
