[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Keep unlimited data with iPhone 6 Plus

I have an old Droid Razr Maxx. I am going to upgrade to the iPhone 6 using the BB or Scyzek method but i'll be using a non-NFC SIM Card in the iPhone as my razr maxx doesn't have the option to upgrade to an NFC SIM. Will it still function properly? Any way of getting the NFC SIM after I am on the iPhone 6 while still keeping UDP intact? Would I be able to order a replacement SIM at that point and get the NFC that way?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I'll be pre-ordering from Apple with my unlimited data upgrade line. Currently have a 5S.

I doubt Apple is any different if Amazon, Costco, and BB all work.

Did you get your 5s on contract? If so, I take that to mean Verizon allows for early upgrades at a lesser of a discount?

Re: Keep unlimited data with iPhone 6 Plus

Alright, thanks. My SIM card looks exactly like the one described as the NFC SIM card above but I'm not sure how accurate or reliable that picture is. I did check on getting one via that link but it did not work. Do you know if Verizon ONLY issues NFC SIM cards now? So if I were to request a replacement SIM for my Droid Razr Maxx I would be guaranteed to receive one?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

It doesn't bother me where I get it. Every phone I've had has been from a different source. I just want to go the easiest route.

Old UDP and off contract.

So after all the reading on keeping UDP, I am pulling the trigger on buying the LG-G3 either at Verizon $599 (as a gift and transferring my sim card myself so they do not touch my Thunderbolt) or buying it at Amazon for $599 and transferring sim card.

Would like to buy it at BB, but they want $699.

Am I missing something?

UDP but still in contract...I want a new phone...help!

Hi guys,

Sorry please help. I have UDP but have no upgrades. I want a new phone really bad. What can I do? I guess I don't really mind not having UDP anymore but I don't want to pay my ETF. Is it possible to ask Verizon for an early upgrade in return switch me off UDP or will they don't care? I have like 8 months left on my contract. What are my options? If I get on the Verizon edge plan it will take away my UDP and cost me more right?

Re: UDP but still in contract...I want a new phone...help!

Yes, if you go with Edge, your unlimited data plan will go away. Before July, they had the device payment plan, which did let you keep your unlimited data, but they ended it and now just have Edge. What you could do is either buy a phone at full price or a slightly used one, I suggest looking at swappa.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I know Verizon is offering a 200$ gift card when you trade in an iPhone 4 and above towards a purchase of an iPhone 6. How would this work in this case? Take iPhone 4 to Verizon, get the gift card for online, then order one online?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have a question regarding getting a new sim card from Verizon. When I go to the store will they just give me a new one without asking why?

Re: Verizon How to Both Get a Subsidized Phone and Keep Unlimited Data after 8/24/14

I'm just concerned with the whole Sim card situation. I wouldn't be able to use either of my current sim cards on the iPhone 6. If I ordered a new sim card from Verizon for my 4S, would it be 4G LTE & NFC compatible?

Rumors going around on the SD forums saying that Verizon is aware of this loophole and is going to shut it down with the iPhone 6 pre orders. Anyone know anymore information on this?

I read a couple posts this morning (I forget which forum) that BB is not shipping pre-ordered iPhones. You must do in-store pick-up. THat would certainly shut down the loophole via BB.

Where are you finding this? I think these are rumors...imagine EVERYONE having to go to a verizon store to pick up/activate their iphones. Smells chaotic to me and too much of a hassle to prevent UDP users from retaining their plans.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Can someone explain to me clearly how to keep unlimited Data on Verizon because right now I have an upgrade available and I want the note 4 but I'm not will to pay $799 for it. What is the BB method of keeping the unlimited data and is there any other way of buying the phone and keeping unlimited Data? Thank You
There are probably hundreds of posts explaining it.

Order from bestbuy.com

Pick keep existing plan

When the phone is delivered do not turn it on and destroy the sim card that came with it.

Put your already active sim in the phone.

You can't pick up on store and must have an active sim on the account before ordering.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

BB is not shipping the phones. In store pickup only according to BB on their forums by a staff member.

I don't have enough posts to post a link

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

View attachment 136032 I activated the phone on one of my UDP lines and my basic line is still on pay per use data. Worked great. Guess I'll do it on the other line soon too. What makes it even crazier is I added these basic lines back in April when the S5 was bogof, for some reason they never put a contract on the lines.

Just for clarification, can you describe exactly what you did?

Actions:
Ordered a smartphone on a dumbphone line using that dumbphone line's upgrade (from a 3rd party retailer, which one?)
Removed the sim that came with the phone.
Activated the phone directly on an UDP line using a that line's currently activated SIM.

Results:
UDP line keeps UD.
Dumbphone line DOES NOT have a data requirement.

Is this correct? Both my UDP and dumbphone line have upgrades available. I'm trying to plan my course of action for when the Note 4 is released.

Part of me thinks the safest thing to do is use the above method. But that won't re-extend my UDP contract, which *might* avoid throttling? If throttling is not used for under contract lines, then I'll just use the BB method directly on my UDP line. But the BB method has always made me uneasy for some reason. Just seems riskier.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Lots of info here guys! From what I understand the BB method seems to be the only way to upgrade and keep the UDP as long as the new SIM is never activated. My question is what happens to that SIM once its never activated and will Verizon ever call us out on it?

I currently have 2 lines of UDP both eligible for upgrade. It seems like only a handful of people have upgraded after the 24th and show they have kept the UDP through BB method. Should I go ahead take the risk on 1 line and cancel the 2nd line if the next billing cycle retains my UDP? They can't retroactively make me change to TDP correct?
