[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm wondering the same thing because I here the SIM card is a NFC SE SIM card. I believe it is the same one as the iphone 5 and iphone 5s but am not positive.

IPhone 5 and iphone 5s are 4g lte I'm just not sure about the nfc part.
The new iPhone had NFC built in. The NFC SE SIM card is needed to use ISIS/softbank wallet.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have 3 phones (2 UDP and 1 basic). Line 1 is eligible for and upgrade and is on a month to month contract. It is my understanding that the transfer upgrade to the basic line and then transfer to the UDP line no longer works as one is forced to keep the 2 gb minimum plan as it can no longer be dropped. That being said, I plan to upgrade directly on the UDP line through either Costco or Best Buy. From what I have been reading it appears that if I simply place my current sim card from line 1 into the new phone I should maintain the UDP on that line. I am concerned that the month to month contract I am currently on may cause difficulty with this method. Has anyone used the method with a month to month contract or does anyone think that the contract type will make a difference in using this method?
Everyone that used the best buy method was on a month to month. The upgrade and contact dates are now aligned on Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I don't know where to post this question but I need help, figuring this out. My current phone is the LG G2 which has a micro-sim, vs these new iphone 6 that has nano-sim. This may cause me a problem also. And I just read this on Apples website.

"iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is not compatible with existing micro-SIM cards" I wonder if that means our existing micro-sims such as my LG G2 wouldn't work to activate it?

Hey everyone, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have 2 lines eligible for a upgrade, one with unlimited data, and the other with a dumb phone attached. I also have a iphone 4 in great condition, but I dont use it, just prefer Android. I would however like to take advantage of the 200$ gift card for the iphone 4 and get the iphone 6 if possible, just seems like a good option if doable. But, I don't care to use the iphone 6, just have it around as a back-up or something for my daughter to use at times. So my question is can I upgrade the dumb phone line with the iphone 6, activate it, then switch back to the dumb phone, plan is a family share. I would like the plan to stay the same without having to add a data plan and such, just activate the iphone and then deactivate back to the same plan with the dumb phone. Then rejoice that I upgraded from the 4 to the 6 for few dollars. Anyone know if this is possible or have a recommendation?

I am not sure how to do this from Verizon using your lines without being stuck with data on the dumb-phone line.
You could try to directly upgrade the dumbphone line. When you get the Phone, discard/destroy the sim that came with it. Never activating that sim. Then put your unlimited sim card into the phone.

I am again not sure if that will work. You will have 14 days to return the phone off or does not work.

Otherwise you would need to do the bestbuy method.

So does the iphone 5 have the NFC WE SIM card? Will that SIM cars work?

Or do I need to wait for the iphone 6 to be released to get that SIM card?

Thanks

Any Verizon sim card should work. If it is the wrong size it can be cut down. The NFC part should not matter.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey Guys! Newbie here... After reading for 6 hrs my head is spinning but I'm starting to understand so lets see if its possible to keep my UDP with my set up:

Line 1: iPhone 5s - TDP 2gb - no upgrade available
Line 2: iPhone 5s - UDP - no upgrade available
Line 3: BlackBerry 9930 - UDP - Upgrade Available

I am wishing to upgrade the Blackberry to the iPhone 6 and keep the UDP if possible.

Are these the correct steps to accomplish that?
1. Transferring upgrade to the line 1 LDP.
2. Replacing Blackberry with a 4G phone on line 3
3. Ordering iPhone 6 on line 1 LDP through best buy
4. When iphone 6 comes place the (cut down) sim card from 4G phone (line 3) in new iphone 6.

Thanks for your help guys!

How about transfer upgrade from line 3 to line 1. Order iPhone 6. Activate on line 1. Put original iPhone 5 back on line 1. Activate now free iPhone 6 on line 3.

My understanding is you DON'T activate the phone on the line you transferred the upgrade to. I believe you just stock in the SIM card with the UDP and that's it

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

How do I remove a pending activation on Verizion? I ordered a subsized phone that I have sold to a friend minus the sim card. But it says on my ine that Our records indicate you recently purchased a device for this line of service but have not activated it yet. You have the option to proceed with your online equipment order after you have activated your new device, or you may contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for further assistance.

Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello all, like everyone else, I want some guidance on my situation. My family currently is on a 5 line family plan...
1 - LG G2 - UDP - Talk and Text $20 off promo - 1400 minutes to share
2 - iPhone 4 - UDP - Talk and Text $20 off promo - 1400 minutes to share
3 - Droid Incredible - UDP - Talk and Text $20 off promo - 1400 minutes to share

4 - iPhone 5s - TDP - Unlimited Talk and Text
5 - iPhone 5s - TDP - Unlimited Talk and Text

We want to upgrade the first 3 lines to iPhone 6's. It is very important we don't lose our Talk and Text $20 off promos. As I understand it, I have to the Best Buy method and I will have to put 4G LTE phones on lines 2&3 before I order the new phones.

Does that all sound correct for getting 3 new iPhones and keeping the plan and pricing 100% in tact?

THANKS!

Correct, you could transfer those iphones 5s from lines 4 and 5 to 2 and three. You will already have the proper size Sims in them to do the best buy method. Once you get the new phones just call Verizon to get new Sims or go to a corporate store.

I have a spare Razr M that would probably go on line 2... do the upgrade... put Razr M on line 3 and do that upgrade. How is everyone ordering the iPhone from BestBuy? It looks like it is only available to pre-order in store.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just a quick question... I posted earlier in this thread but it got buried pretty quick.. Using the scyzek method, I ordered the IP6 + from my basic phone line after I added a tiered data plan with my old Galaxy Nexus. Once I receive the IP6 in the mail and I swap my old sim from my 5s into it to activate it on my UDP line when can I downgrade that Galaxy Nexus TDP line back to a basic dumb phone? Or will I not be able it and have to keep the 20 months of data on it?

So you are saying switch upgrade to TDP. Order iphone 6 on TDP (does it have to be from best buy?).

Then once you get the iphone 6... How do you activate it but not on the line that your switched the upgrade to?

I pre-ordered from apple. I am just upgrading a dumbphone line but using this method to avoid keeping data on the line. I am hoping that it works the same as best buy. We know that it works with Amazon and Best But. Apple is not confirmed yet.

You can take the gamble with us, our wait till the 19th to find out if it worked.

I still think ordering from best buy is the best because the receipt says keep your existing plan. You would have to wait for best buy to accept online orders for delivery. That will take awhile.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I don't know if this has been discussed but has anyone seen the option for "iphone unlimited " data plan when adding a line to your existing account via Apple.com?? It's being discussed at macrumors forum I believe. No ones sure if it will still but i believe some have placed orders.

It depends on what method you're using. In your case you'd be accepting a tiered data plan on the phone you're transferring to. But since you already have a tiered data plan on it no big deal. Then just put original phone back on and your new iphone 6 is free to be placed on any line you wish. It is also possible to transfer upgrade then activate it directly on the UDP line but that would require you to have a compatible SIM for the iPhone 6. I don't know first hand but I'm guessing a Blackberry doesn't use a nano sim.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I read much of this thread, but now going on 273 pages, I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for. I think my situation is probably very straightforward/simple because I have a $30/month Regular Data Phone (RDP) on the family plan and can use it to keep my Unlimited Data Phone (UDP) which is also on the same family plan, just want to double check to see if I have the process correct:

  • I transfer my UDP Upgrade to the RDP
  • Upgrade the RDP by purchasing an iPhone 6
  • Once iPhone 6 arrives, I use Verizonwireless.com to activate on the RDP line.
  • Transfer the iphone 6 from the RDP line to the UDP line on verizonwireless.com
  • Reactivate the old RDP phone

And??? That should work right?
