[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you. I'm a little confused now. I never planned on using the existing sim from the TDP into the new iphone, becasue if I did that I heard it would affect my UDP line since it was my UDP upgrade. So if i call VZW to dispute the pending activation, I actually never would have activated it on the TDP. I was going to just insert my UDP from the get go.

Maybe I can go into a store and convince an employee just to clear the pending activation.

Thanks again

and in that case I do believe the pending activation will stay since you are using the UDP sim card immediately. Where we are uncertain is, if you were to use the TDP sim card to activate the phone and would the pending activation drop off because in reality you did activate the new phone on the TDP line although you didn't use the pre-installed sim card the new phone came with. And if you go this route will it have any effect on the UDP line when using the TDP existing sim card. WOW it's amazing I understand what I just typed. I've done way to much reading in this thread. : )

Gotcha. Makes sense, thank you. I was thinking maybe I can insert my UDP sim on the iphone, so its activated, then stick in the original TDP sim card (to remove the pending activation) and then use my UDP sim again.

Scyzek in the post below confirmed that they just put the SIM from the UDP phone into the new phone and retained their UDP. Prior to 9/24 the pending activation would just fall off after a week. I haven't seen a confirmation that this still holds true though. One poster mentioned that they suspended then de-suspended the line which caused it to fall off.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Tripling my post count today. Tried mr toad's method of suspending/resuming the 2gb line but I still get this screen below. Didn't seem to do anything. However, I can skip past it to the screen you just quoted at the bottom. And yes, the UDP line has been extended by 2 years. Am I answering that one right?

Just wondering about the pending activation. Did it eventually fall off after about a week like it did before 8/24 or has that changed?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Sorry if this question is posted already, but i was trying to preorder the iPhone 6 using the best buy method. Does somebody know something i don't? Only preorder in store right? will this still work to keep unlimited data?

When using the BB method, you must order the phone shipped to your house. Ordering it to be delivered in store will result in the store personnel activating the phone with the new SIM card, causing you to lose unlimited. People have been pre-ordering through the Apple website and will use the same trick, putting in the old SIM from the unlimited data plan line instead of the included SIM, when the phone arrives. This should work too, but obviously nobody can confirm it because the phone hasn't been released yet.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have activated a new sim in my old phone and I am now ready to get the G3 from best buy, but.... I am a little concered over this new statement "Verizon Wireless has ended its unlimited data plan option. If you have unlimited data, you'll be selected to their most common 2GB plan when you upgrade. You can change your data plan any time after you upgrade. As long as your new phone is compatible with your plan, the rest of your features will stay the same." should I worry or has this always been there?

I saw the exact same warning when I ordered my Note3 about 4 weeks ago.

Take screen shots of each page of the order and check out process where it shows KEEP EXISTING PLAN.

You should be just fine

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

While it seems that the preferred method is ordering from BB or another 3rd party (or even VZW) with a TDP line, and then activating on an UDP line, is there any problem with activating on the TDP, reactivating the old phone on that line, and then activating the new phone on the UDP line?

For my purposes:
Line 1: UDP (Upgrade available 11/23)
Line 2: UDP (Upgrade available now)
Line 3: TDP (Upgrade available 2016)

I'm looking to get an iPhone 6 for Line 1. Is there anything wrong with transferring the upgrade from Line 2 to Line 3, going to a store tomorrow and getting a shiny new iPhone, then coming home and reactivating the phone that was on line 3, and putting the iPhone on line 1? In my mind, it doesn't seem existentially different from buying an iPhone 6 full retail and then putting it on line 1 (or the equivalent of Line 3 got an iPhone but wants her old phone back so I'm giving it Line 1).

I know exploiting a loophole like this (or rather, Verizon's perspective) doesn't necessarily lend to logic, so that's why I'm asking haha...

Thanks.

We're unsure if you transfer your UDP upgrade to a TDP, and then activate a TDP that it will change your UDP data to tiered, that is the belief. So i think you can activate the new phone on the UDP from the get go, and in a week or so the pending activation on the TDP line should be dropped.

I'm ddoing the same thing for the new iphone

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So when I order the note 4 all I have to do is click on existing plan and I should be fine when ordering from Best Buy? All i have to do is pop in my old sim card in there and take out the new one before turning on my phone and my unlimited Data should be there.

This is what I did in April when I got my M8. Everything on my account is as it should be to this date. The only real difference I see from this picture (taken during the checkout) to the screen shots I took from April is that little text that says "Conditions Apply". That's all!

In theory - yes - this has worked for others. Some have recived emails after they ordered saying there is a problem and to call in. Most suggest not to call and cancel the order and try again. Once you call and they involve VZ, most have lost UDP and had to argue to get it back.

Second this. I got email that there was issue. Definitely just call and cancel. Don't give any info. In my case my bill was due 2 days after I ordered. So I had to 0 out the balance and then ordered again and have been rocking a G3 for a week now.. :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I thought it only applied to those who got phone off contract. Does it apply to anyone with an unlimited data plan?

Network Optimization will apply to anyone without a current contract; whether or not you got an off-contract phone doesn't matter.

Ahhh. Yea I was hoping to avoid the long order times and snag a 6 in-store someplace tomorrow. I guess it's best to order and wait then :-/

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello all, went through as much of this thread as I could and wanted to make sure I was on the right track. I have 4 lines:
Line 1: 3g UDP, Upgrade available
Line 2: 3g UDP, Upgrade available
Line 3: Dumb Phone, Upgrade available
Line 4: ipone 5 TDP, Upgrade available

I think I have quite a few options but think I have settled on the BB method to get new phones on my UDP lines; not looking to upgrade lines 3/4 right now but might be at a later date. I want to get a GS4 and GS5 and lines 1 and 2 respectively. My main concern is the sim cards, or lack there of. I need to get the 4g cards. If I am understanding this right I can call verizon and just request new micro-SIM cards for both lines and they will ship them to me? Do I need to order these before purchasing the phones through BB (so verizon doesn't see the renewal)? Also does it matter if I purchase the desired phone on each line or do I need to switch them (buy on line 1 activate on line 2, like in the Scyzek method)?
So my sequence of events would be:
1. Request new micro-SIMs for lines 1 and 2 from verizon
2. Purchase a GS4 from BB for line1, ship to home, and select "keep exisiting plan"
3. Purchase a GS5 from BB for line2, ship to home, and select "keep exisiting plan"
4. Do not power on either phone. Put in respective SIMs from #1 and power on.
5. Good to Go :)

The most important thing to me is that line 2 retains UDP so I may just do line 1 now to verify that it works. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This statement has been on BB's website for quite awhile. The change to the 2 GB plan is tied to the SIM card they ship with the phone, so it will never process if you follow the steps of the BB method. Despite the warning, the receipt BB will give you should still say "keep current plan".

And even if something goes wrong and the data plan is changed (it won't be), you can return the phone within 14 days of purchase to revert your plan.

Will this work if we pre order the Note 4 through Verizon? Once it's available they ship it to your house then you could just put your old sim card in. Or do you have to do this through BB or another 3rd party?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think its for BB only because it has the option of "keep current plan" and verizon does not.

It works because BB (and other 3rd party retailers) don't make changes on your plan; the changes occur when you activate using the included SIM. Since the BB method doesn't use the included SIM, the change never gets processed.

User Scyzek used this when ordering from Verizon directly by transferring upgrade from unlimited line to another tiered data line, ordering phone on tiered data line, then inserting SIM from unlimited line in phone without using the included SIM, similar to the BB method. Unlike the BB method, this [probably] can't be used directly on your line because Verizon's system would [likely] process the data plan change without needing activation from the SIM.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

THANK EVERYONE HERE! IT IS POSSIBLE:

I ordered me the LG G3 from amazon yesterday. $65 with overnight shipping.

1. Phone Came in today.
2. Pulled the sim card out of it that came in it. pre installed btw.
3. Went to VZW.com and added the phone to my line using the imei.
4. Put the sim card from my other phone (GS3) in it and bam my unlimited data is still intact!
Upgrade date on my line has changed. ULD package is still showing.. and the phone icon on myverizon is the LG G3!

Thank you again everybody! It is possible and proven
