[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I did the upgrade transfer method and right now it has been over a week but i have this message on my account

" Device Needs to Be Activated (Activate When You Receive Device)"

anyone know if this will drop?

Mine dropped off after about a week. Some a few days others immediately. Did you do it through Verizon or Best Buy?

When you do the Best Buy through the method and swap the SIM cards are you paying full price for the phone or can you get the upgrade discount price?

I am wanting to upgrade my DNA to a Turbo and keep my UDP.

Thanks

If you pay full price you keep your UDP no matter how you do it. This whole thread is about getting subsidized price on phones and keeping UDP.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

And did you use your existing sim cards, not the "NEW" preinstalled sim card? Thanks for the update!!!!

To answer your question, I did not swap SIM cards at all. Activated the iPhone 6 with the SIM that came in it on TDP (that it was ordered on). Then used Verizon's online swap devices function with the account to change devices. I had to enter the numbers off the SIMs (for whatever reason, it wasn't showing the Moto X that was on the TDP was available to reactivate - Verizon has two options here, either a phone not associated with the account or one that was previously and it wasn't under the latter choice), but there was no swapping cards. My GNex had a micro SIM and I was uncomfortable shaving it down, so I wanted to avoid that if possible.

As further info, I transferred the upgrade from the other UDP line on my account to the TDP and then shuffled the iPhone I ordered with the upgrade to the other UDP line on my account. Both have maintained unlimited data and it's been over a week since the activation.

First off lines 2-4, do they have data? If not, Verizon changed it that you will have to keep data on the line for duration of contract.

What I did was transfer my unlimited data line to a tiered data line, then upgraded the tiered data line.

Where do you see that notice?

when I login to my verizon and click upgrade a device it says it there.

This is what it looks like activation lock.png

It doesn't do anything and you're not being charged. Only thing it effects is you can't do another upgrade until it clears. I would just ignore it and check again in week.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

OK so I just got my unlimited plan back. Been fighting it for 2 weeks. So my question is I already had a phone ordered (note 4) on edge. It still shows ordered. Can I just swap the Sim and still do edge and keep UDP? Rep told me on phone that it doesn't affect my plan but i know that's crap. Just wondering if I'm gona lose it again or if swap will work. I don't eat to go through literally 10-15 calls a day to get it taken care of....again.

Thanks a lot! I am guessing the "Verizon's online swap device function" step was for you to put the new phone on UDP. I have been wondering if the UDP line was safe if we transferred its upgrade to TDP and used the sim card that came with the new phone (for TDP to use the phone). Thanks again!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, I am Verizon UDP user with one line. I use Galaxy S3 right now.

I would like to upgrade to Galaxy Note 4 with my UDP alive.

Many are promoting $200 rebate on pre ordering Galaxy Note 4.

I also have 10% Best Buy in-store coupon.

I tried to use Bestbuy.com method, but Verizon blocked online pre-order.

Can i go to store and pre-order it and still activate it myself or get it shipped to my house ? This seems to be cheapest way to get galaxy note 4. Is the a chance even i have to pick up in store, i can just pick it up and leave without activating it ?

What is best method for my situation ?

One last question is if i add TDP line, there will be additional monthly charge right?

I am also on Verizon with a Galaxy S3 and UDP. I believe Best Buy do not allow you to take the phone home to activate if it is shipped to store. I pre-ordered from Costco. You do not have to be a member to order from them. I did my trade in through Amazon. Amazon closed its pre-orders for the Note 4.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have these lines with Nationwide 1400..
Line 1 - ip4s UDP upgrade elig. (just got a nano sim from vzw)
Line 2 - ip5s UDP upgrade elig.
Line 3 - basic upgrade not elig.
Line 4 - ip4s UDP upgrade elig.

All i want is to get an ip6 on either Line 1 or Line 2. What's the safest method to use to keep UDP?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Man, this got confusing since I last did this using the dumbphone transfer method. I think the two unlimited line method (from the sticky http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon/444741-unlimited-data-faq-upgrades-new-lines.html) might be what I want, but I don't fully understand it.

Line 1 - Galaxy S5, UDP, no upgrade
Line 2 - Droid RAZR, UDP, upgrade eligible, this is the line I want to upgrade
Line 3 - dumb phone, upgrade eligible

Does the two unlimited lines method work for me? If so, who is the doner and donee? I don't fully understand.

TIA

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

hey all,

thanks to this forum, i was able to upgrade from s3 to s5 and still keep my UDP using bestbuy method.
it was delivered next day for me (in new york) and been working great for 6 days now until about 30-40 minutes ago....,
4g signal started dropping and speedtest shows only 0.5Mbs DL and pretty much no UL speed.

im at 5.7gig of my unlimited data and after 12 th day of my billing cycle.

im not saying verizon is capping (.. they better not). anyone else have this issue with 4g signal?
i just hope this is some local/temporary issue.

I'm not in your area. But regularly use 4+ GB of 4G data. My speed is very good between 15mbps and 35mbps and a 45ms ping

Verizon announced that they canceled plans to throttle unlimited data.

My cycle ends on the 21st and I'm at 50GB with no show down.

yeah i read that on here...

after multiple "speedtests" with results under 1Mbps, i was getting a bit frustrated..
but apparently my 4g speed is back to normal the next morning.

just as i hoped, it was NOT the throttling issue... but i wonder what is was...
