[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

I would either do the regular Best Buy method or Snkydvl Method:

1) Have a 4G LTE phone active on your UDP line before you order;
2) Log onto Verizon and transfer your UDP line's upgrade to a basic line;
3) Order the new smartphone you want on the basic line and select a 2GB plan;
4) When the new smartphone arrives, remove the SIM card it ships with without turning it on or plugging it in; and
5) Place the 4G LTE SIM card that is currently active on your UDP line into the new smartphone and turn it on.

That was copied from the wiki on the slickdeals.net thread.

I am confused on the wiki portion because i want to upgrade both and if I do both UDP devices with BB method. Both devices are 4G LTE with nano sims just swap to old sims and with the other method how do if I transfer upgrade to basic how do I upgrade the other line? Thank you Toad and all for your quick response and guidance.

You would just do it twice. If you get a pending activation on the dumb-phone line you would just have to wait for it to come off.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just wanted to see if someone can confirm this is the best way to go about my upgrades:
Line 1 - 4G phone , UDP, Upgrade Available
Line 2 - iPhone 4s 3G, UDP, Upgrade Available

Scenario 1: If I want to upgrade both phones simultaneously without hassle of SIM cards, etc. then just use FAM (227608-instruction-how-keep-unlimited-data-verizon-164.html#post3637419) whereby I use line 1 upgrade to get phone that line 2 wants to use and vice versa. I'm assuming that this method still works - if anyone knows anything to the contrary please let me know.

Scenario 2: If I only want to upgrade line 2 (from iPhone 4s to iPhone 6), then call Verizon and tell them I need a nano SIM for a third party iPhone 6 that I purchased. When it arrives, go online to VZ to activate. Do BB method and use line 1 info/upgrade to get subsidized phone for line 2. When phone arrives, destroy SIM and then use nano SIM. Turn phone on. Do I need to get an intermediary phone first to use Verizon's nano SIM or is there an advantage to using an intermediary?

Thanks in advance!

Scenario 1 all works as far as I know.

Scenario 2, you probably don't need the intermediary phone. Since you're using line's 1 Upgrade for line 2 you won't have to worry about the pending activation when activating the new sim. Otherwise you would need an active sim on the line before you ordered the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so I have seen several different ways to do the upgrades but I want to make sure I get it right! We have the following.

Line 1 - Unlimited data - upgrade eligible - Droid Razr
Line 2 - 2Gb data - no upgrade - Galaxy s4
Line 3 - Basic Phone - upgrade eligible

I want to get a subsidized phone for Line 1, can we still do the transfer upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2, then when we get the phone, activate it on line 2 then switch it to line 1?

How does this then affect the upgrade that we would get on line 2 next year?

Sorry I am really confused and don't want to screw up my husbands unlimited!

Yes that is what you want to do. Line one will get the new 2 year contract, keeping UDP. Nothing changes with line 2. Activate it on line 2 with the preinstalled simcard, use the phone fro a bit then do the switcheroo.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

For those doing the "transfer UDP upgrade to another line then activate on that line and switch the phone back to UDP" method, anyone showing that the UDP upgrade is still showing as upgrade eligible despite buying on subsidized price? Any reason why?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm new to this, so I apologize if I'm not doing this correctly. I want to upgrade my iPhone 4 (no SIM card) to a 6 and keep my UDP. I know there have been a lot of changes lately and closed loop holes. Any help would be much appreciated! I have the following devices:

FamilyShare 1000 plan
Line 1: TDP, iPhone 5, upgrade available after 2/13/15
Line 2: UDP, iPhone 4 (no SIM card), upgrade available

Again, I want to upgrade Line 2 to an iPhone 6 and keep my UDP. If this is not possible, can I existing plans between phones?

Transfer your upgrade to the iPhone 5 line. Activate the phone when you get. Take the Iphone 5 (could probably do either phone) to a Verizon corporate store and get a SIM for you line. Leave store put appropriate Sims in appropriate phones.

You could also try to reactivate the old sim when the iPhone 6 comes and put that on your line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So question...I am on a business account with six lines. Two of them are UDP and both have an upgrade. Maybe I am blind but I see no way of transferring the upgrade to the remaining phones. Does this apply only to personal accounts? Last resort option would be to buy a phone at full price, but it would be nice not to pay that much.

On business accounts it called a buddy upgrade. The line that it is going to must be under contract (no upgrade available). My friend has done it with his small business account several times.

Right. Now I am just trying to figure out how to actually transfer it to another line. I can't seem to find where it mentions this.

EDIT: Nevermind, I realized that I had to pick one of the non-upgrade eligible lines first, then click the upgrade button, and then it shows that I can do the buddy upgrade and pick one of the UDP line upgrades. Not exactly the same steps that I read somewhere in this thread, but at least it's there.

Yeah, The small business portal is completely different then the consumer portal.

I had this happen when I did this method and my UDP line STILL is month-to-month several months later. No idea why.

If you are ordering from Verizon, it's a current glitch in the system. For some reason, it allows people to upgrade and keep their upgrade. So far, it only works if you transfer an upgrade to a tiered data plan and activate it on the tiered line. No one is sure why this is happening, but you all are the lucky ones.

So does this allow technically "unlimited" upgrades as long as someone continues to transfer a UDP upgrade to a TDP line? Or does anyone have experience ordering multiple phones via this method and not getting charged full price?

I did this right before Thanksgiving and they took my upgrade, so I wouldn't say it will happen for everybody.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello!!

Has anyone with a Verizon business account been able to use the best buy method? For some reason when I enter my Verizon info on the best buy website it says my information is wrong when it isn't.

Does anyone know if this would work?:

What if I used one of my upgrades that currently has a 2gb plan, so I upgrade to the iPhone 6 on that line and then I transfer the iPhone 6 to my line, which has unlimited and then I re-active the other phone on the 2gb line. Would that work?!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Doing "buddy" upgrades and transferring unlimited upgrades to the tiered line will work.

I am not sure about ordering from third parties on the business plans.

Visit SlickDeals and you'll see there are people who have been able to use it multiple times. I'd recommend being careful in going this route, but there is nothing stopping you from upgrading again if you wish.
