[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When you transfer a new phone on a tiered line to a UDP line (after deactivating it) do you need to use My Verizon at all if you already have a UDP compatible SIM card or can you just plug it directly into the new phone and be done with it?

All you have to do is swap the SIM card. I am not sure what you mean by deactivate the phone first.

Oh I was referring to using the tiered lines upgrade to buy phone for UDP line.

1) Transfer the upgrade.

2) Activate the new phone on the tiered line for a little while.

3) Swap your unlimited sim into the new phone. Put the tiered sim back in the old phone. You can reactivate the old tiered sim of it is the wrong size.

Your steps are correct. To give you more detailed answers:

After these steps, enjoy your new phone!

Ok I ran into a little snag
My order from Verizon didn't ship so I called and asked why. They said it is probably because an accessory was out of stock. I asked them if we could ship what they have and ship the rest later. They told me they would have to cancel the order and reorder separately. Since the internet department was still closed they told me they would call me back after they found out what was happening with my order and then we could figure out what to do. Well the first call I got was the Verizon survey and then they just happened to call while I was on the line with that. I ignored the call then called them right back. She went and checked and said yes my order was delayed because an accessory wasn't in stock. At which point I told her that while I was waiting for their return phone call that I had used the chat feature online and asked about availability of each item I had ordered. They said if I wanted to order them everything was in stock and ready to ship today. She again said there was one item that was not in stock. Then to my astonishment she told me they had already canceled my order but that she can reorder. Without me mentioning anything she said she understood I wanted to keep my UDP. Which I thought was weird because I was buying phone for the TDP. I asked if she knew details on what I had done with my order if in fact I did place the order with her. She said yes she could see everything. I told her I was transferring upgrade (from UDP) because I wanted to upgrade phone on the TDP. It was at this point she said you do realize if you transfer your upgrade that you will lose the UDP because the contract is attached to the phone not the upgrade (or something to that effect). She then tried to sell me on EDGE saying that way I could keep my UDP. I told her I had friends that had transferred upgrades like I wanted to do and they didn't lose their UDP. She was adamant that it can't be done. I told her when I placed the order online I never got any message saying that I would lose my UDP on that line. She said she just wanted to warn me as she didn't want my to be all excited about getting a new phone and neglect to see that I had lost UDP on the one line.

I never told her what my ultimate goal was and about the procedures here.

So I guess the questions are.. Is she correct that if she placed order for me that I would lose UDP by virtue of transferring a upgrade from a UDP to a TDP and upgrading the TDP phone?

Is she incorrect that I would lose UDP even if I placed the order online just by virtue of transferring a upgrade from a UDP to a TDP and upgraded the TDP phone?

This is why it is mentioned numerous times to order online am not involve a person. If she places your order you will probably lose unlimited.

I have used the transfer upgrade to keep unlimited on two lines for years. It still works.

You should just order again using the online system. Do not call.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

OK, making the final steps. Question to those of you who have been helping me:

The port over to Google Voice completed, and my line is now deactivated.

I put the new SIM card in my phone (the one that corresponds with the UDP line) but the phone is not active. Should I activate it and then call Verizon and do the port over the phone? Or should I do the port from my friend's phone and leave the phone deactivated until I port the number over, and THEN activate?

Ok I went online and transferred upgrade from UDP to TDP and used the upgrade on the TDP line. The phone will be here tomorrow. I only ordered a phone this time no accessories.

Earlier when I talked to the agent she added notes to my account that due to the delay of shipment and the cancellation of order they would overnight for free and waive the upgrade fee. By ordering online I wasn't able to apply them to the order. I am not sure at what point in process if any I should pursue a credit of 53-54 dollars.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well, I just ported over the number (finally) onto Verizon.

They said it is going to take 2-10 business days for the port to complete. I guess in the meantime I am stuck with the old number on the line, right? But I don't think I can send text messages..

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

does the Best Buy method work on a Verizon dumbphone line?

dumbphone is eligible for upgrade right now. can she order the Galaxy S5 for $1
from BestBuy.com, destroy the SIM card and avoid paying the $30/month data
plan(which I believe is required for 24 months).

Thanks! :)
That should work. I did the same thing from Apple. Still no data on the dumbphone line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Looking for info to upgrade.

I have a family share 700 plan. 1 dumb phone, Moto X with 2gb data, LG G2 with unlimited data. I want to get a N6 to use on the LG G2 unlimited line. Currently the dumb phone is eligible for an upgrade. The other 2 lines say early edge upgrade only.

What are my options?

Thanks.

That is up to you and your confidence when talking to the rep. I have not had a problem getting phones warrantied that I used the transfer upgrade to get. I would probably wait for the order to be fulfilled before calling

I don't have any issues getting the credit applied. What I worry about is rep looking at the order and applying the loss of UDP as if I placed order with them and me ending up with a surprise.

1) Through Verizon online, order the Nexus using a basic line's upgrade, picking the 2GB data plan for the basic line and have it shipped to home

2) When the Nexus 6 arrives, do not turn it on, rather log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device; and

3) Select the UDP Line and that you want to activate a device that has not been on your account before, type in the IMEI of the new smartphone and the SIM card number of the SIM card that shipped with the new smartphone and follow the directions to activate the new smartphone on the UDP line.

It's pretty straightforward...just upgrade the basic line but don't activate the phone on it. Instead, just activate the phone directly onto the unlimited line and you'll be all set.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

L1 smartphone UDP eligible for an upgrade
L2 smartphone TDP not eligible for upgrade

can i use BB method to get the L1 to get an upgrade and keep UDP by transferring upgrade to L2 in BB website and order new S5?
since L2 is TDP, I was thinking to get the phone in store and activate the phone in store under L2; doing this to get the phone faster instead of waiting for two or three days. since it is TDP i don't have to worry about anything right? After the activation on L2, an hour later i will switch the L2 to the previous smartphone and free up the new S5 to upgrade the L1. Anything wrong by doing this? or is there a better method? btw, BB has $1 for S5 that is why I am doing this BB method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've read through most of this long thread but was wondering if someone can help me and sorry if this has already been addressed. Here's my situation.

Line 1 UDP galaxy s4 upgrade eligible
Line 2 UDP iphone 4s upgrade eligible
Line 3 basic phone not eligible for upgrade

1. I want to pre-order the galaxy s6 tomorrow using bb method for line 1. I already have the nano sim that i ordered from vzw & used an adapter for my s4. so was wondering if the bb method works for pre-orders or will it prompt me to change my udp.

2. I wanted to upgrade line 2 to an iphone 5s for my wife. I also ordered the nano sim compatible with the iphone 5s. but not sure if using an adapter for that sim card will work since the 4s is a 3G phone & the nano sim is for 4G phones. Does this matter? And will bb method work for this too?

Please help and thank you in advance for the advice/help.
