[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It should be 2gb. It was probably prorated for the month. Was a change made to the contract in the middle of the billing cycle?

Oh yeah when I reactivated the dumb phone it asked me to add the same 2GB plan again and I just clicked okay. I guess if you read my previous post last page with Dusoccer10 it will give more info. So then I guess end of billing cycle it'll revert back?

So I finally was able to order an iPhone 6 on BB after many attempts. My old galaxy nexus uses a regular Sim the iPhone a nano. Im using the BB method on my udp line. What can I do if I mess up the old Sim when I cut it to fit. If I purchase a new nano sim for the iPhone can I go to my Verizon and activate it using the iPhone imei # and new Sim # ? Its going on my UDP line

You probably will need to return the phone if you mess it up. You will have a pending order that will prevent you from activating the new SIM. If you do by chance get it activated it most likely will complete the order and you will be converted to the 2gb plan.

EDIT: I just reread your original post, which line did you upgrade? If it was a basic you should not have a problem getting the nano sim on your unlimited line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello everyone! Sorry for the lengthy post in advance! First post here in this community after lurking in this thread for quite a while :D

Anyways, I have a couple of questions for all of you:

First, the background:

Line 1: UDP, smartphone, no upgrade
Line 2: UDP, smartphone, upgrade available
Line 3: Tiered 2GB, smartphone, no upgrade

All lines have nano sims, too.

About a month ago, I used the Verizon method, transferred the upgrade from Line 2 to Line 3, upgraded for a new smartphone, and shipped it to my home. When I received the phone, I threw out the nano SIM that came with it, and activated it on Line 3 with the nano sim currently attached to Line 3. After an hour or so of making sure everything worked fine, I switched the SIMs between Line 2 and Line 3, putting the new smartphone on Line 2 and Line 2’s smartphone on Line 3. Everything worked perfectly; Today, line 2 with the new smartphone still has the UDP and Line 3 is still tiered.

Now, for the REAL question:

About a week after upgrading, I noticed that Line 2 still had an upgrade available (same discounted price, same date, etc). From reading further back in the thread, I noticed some other “lucky" individuals that had the same predicament. I believe it was something to do with a glitch in Verizon’s system when one transferred the upgrade to a tiered line from the unlimited line, threw out the new sim that came with the phone, and activated the new phone on the tiered line. My questions are has anyone successfully upgraded through this method more than once, and is the Verizon method of transferring a UDP upgrade to a tiered line still w/o losing unlimited data still viable?

I know this may be treading new waters, but I’m very interested (and anxious) in taking the plunge. Thanks in advance!

No it was upgraded on my primary UDP line

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So here is what I have:
Plan: Nationwide TLK & TXT Share 2000
Line 1 - UDP S3 Upgrade available, not in contract
Line 2 - UDP Galaxy Nexus, Upgrade available, not in contract
Line 3 - UDP Galaxy Nexus, Upgrade available, not in contract
Line 4 TDP Galaxy Nexus, NO upgrade available, still under contract

My end goal is to upgrade the phones on All lines, keeping the S3, but having it on Line 3. So I thought I could transfer the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 4, upgrade the phone, activate the new phone on Line 4..then log into Verizon and swap it to Line 1. Then do the same with the other lines. I tried doing it online with Best Buy, but it didn't give me the option to transfer one of my upgrades...It only said Line 4 could be upgraded with Verizon Edge. So I logged into Verizon, and it let me transfer the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 4, but then it again, only said I could upgrade Line 4 using Verizon Edge.

I thought I could use an available upgrade on Line 4 since it doesn't have unlimited data. Am I mistaken? Is there another way I could do this?
Thanks!

You are not mistaken, this is probably the best way to keep unlimited data.

I would order the phones online one at a time. I would transfer each to Line 4. Activate each phone on line 4 for a couple hours and then swap them to the proper lines. You should then be able to order the next phone. If best buy won't let you transfer the upgrade you need to do it through Verizon. Don't worry about Edge because you are actually using the upgrades from each line.

There are people who have used the Verizon glitch to upgrade multiple times. You are safe to transfer the upgrade to the tiered line and do that method again. Just be smart about how many times you upgrade as you do not want to bring undue attention to yourself if the glitch is still in affect.

The short answer is don't screw up cutting the SIM. :-)

The longer answer is that it is going to be much more complicated to get this phone activated since you went this method if you make a mistake in cutting the SIM. The big question I have is did you order the new SIM before or after you upgraded? This will make a huge difference as to whether you can use it or not. Additionally, remind me if you have other lines available? I've got some ideas as a back up if something happens when cutting.

So when it offers me Edge, it's $25 per month. I just ignore that plan? Won't it activate Edge when I turn on the phone? And Best Buy says I have to bring my old phone into them for Edge. I thought I could just transfer the upgrade, order the new phone, and select my same plan.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So Best Buy has the Verizon S6 Edge up for preorder. All I have to do is choose to ship it to my home. Then use my current SIM card in my Note 4 and I wont lose my Unlimited Plan??

There was no option to choose Keep current plan.

EDIT:

I just saw it say this..."There's a change from Verizon Wireless for unlimited data plans.
Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default."

Is that true??

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Good day to you all! First and foremost, I just want to thank everyone on this forum and speficically this thread for the help and information. I have a situation that I want to clarify and any help would be appreciated!
Here is my situation:
1 UDP - GALAXY S4 - My phone
1 TDP - IPHONE6 PLUS
2 BASIC LINES - 1 WITH UPGRADE
So I attempted to transfer the upgrade available on my basic line to my father's TDP and pre-order the Galaxy S6 (activate the s6 on my father's TDP then transfer over the phone to my UDP line so I can keep my unlimited data) earlier today and Verizon wouldn't allow me. Verizon stated I would have to change my plan to a More Everything Plan which would void my UDP line (Currently have Nationwide Talk and Text 700 minute plan)
I backed out of the Verizon website and did the upgrade transfer through Best Buy. So I transferred the upgrade I had on my basic line to my father's TDP Iphone6 line and pre-order the Galaxy S6 that way. It went through without any issues. I then plan on activating the new Galaxy S6 on my father's line then transfer it over to my UDP line so I can keep my unlimited. BB also did not advised me of any plan changes either. It just stated that I had to pay an activation fee to Verizon and that was all.
I'm just wondering if this would cause any issues since the Verizon website wouldn't allow this method to go through but Best Buy did. Is there anything I should worry about? Would I be charged an additional data line since I transferred the upgrade from a basic line to a tiered data line? Thank you all in advance!!!

Your plan is correct.

Everyone sees that warning. OK to proceed.
If you get a notice to call BestBuy or Verizon DON'T. If you do you will lose the UDP when the phone arrives. Instead cancel the order. Wait a few days and start the same process over.

They are two different upgrades. You do not want to do edge. If best buy is not allowing you to transfer the upgrades you have to do it through Verizon. I prefer the transfer upgrade method to keep unlimited data.

If you want to order from best buy you should directly upgrade each unlimited line online. When you get the Phone do not turn it on and destroy the SIM. Then place your unlimited sim into the phone. Your sim most be the same size before you order.

That is the standard message. Ignore it. Make sure it allows delivery. Most new phones are in store pickup only at best buy. You have to get it delivered.

I believe the order will be cancelled. I do not believe Verizon allows you to transfer basic line upgrades to smartphone lines.

If this happens, directly upgrade the basic line from best buy. Get it delivered. Do not turn on the phone and destroy the SIM. Place your unlimited sim into the phone.

This will not force the 2 year data requirement. You may not be able to change the basic phone though.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you for the prompt reply! What do you mean by "You may not be able to change the basic phone though?"
So if the order is cancelled, I would just upgrade the basic line directly and just destroy the new nano, insert my unlimted nano and I should be golden? Would they enroll that basic line into a tiered data line? Thank you again :)!

When the smartphone is not activated on the basic line it leaves the order incomplete. This bypasses the 2 year data requirement when getting a smartphone.

I read a post on slickdeals.net. The person upgraded a basic line using this method. Two months later they changed basic phones and it forced data onto the line for the remaining portion of the contract.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

No I didn't order a Sim for it. I have 2 other basic lines with upgrade available
