[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What should I do with the SIM that came with the S6? Do I need to discard it or can I place it in the S4 and give that phone to someone else?

Cut it into tiny unrecognizable pieces, burn it with fire, throw in into an active volcano, or something similar. DO NOT USE IT ANYWHERE, FOR ANY PURPOSE, ANYTIME! Destroy it so it can never be used again!

There is no value in the SIM card itself anyway. You can get them free from Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does anyone know if I order a new SIM will I loose the unlimited plan?

It depends on whether you have done any upgrade methods and where you are in the process. If you have done nothing to your plan in the last few months, getting a new SIM should not affect your unlimited plan. If you have upgraded, then it depends on if you have a pending activation on your account.

first thank you for the help and information!

Line 1 UDP

Upgrade at discount 02/05/17 or upgrade not at full price

I have a rooted Droid X2 that finally bit the dust last saturday. Two months ago I purchased an HTC M8 online (BB) and it is still in the box and has never been powered on.

Can you please instruct me on how I can activate the HTC and keep my unlimited data plan? If it helps my brother also has an UDP (different account)

Thanks Again!

Dont power on the device. Take the sim card out of the m8 and destroy it! Use the sim card in the droid x2 but you will probably need to cut it down to a nano size card i believe. Or you can go to the store and request a sim card for the m8. Just tell them you lost the card.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a single line plan with UDP and looking to upgrade. I really want the S6 Edge but best buy doesn't have shipping available yet. What other 3rd party retailers I can use and not lose UDP??

Thanks!!

thanks for the prompt reply...unfortunately the droid x2 does not have a sim card. I'm thinking I could go to the store tell them my droid x2 died and my brother has a Samsung S4 that he is going to give me so I need to purchase a sim card. Whadaya think?

I would go to a Verizon Authorized Retailer and tell them you need a sim for the htc one m8. Authorized retailers tend to work better with people with unlimited data.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

went to verizon store sim card was free did not effect udp at all.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Been trying to read this thread and follow anything similar to mine...then I get confused lol

So many apologies as I'm sure it's been repeated

I am on my dad's plan as I have UDP

Line1- Basic Phone (Dad's)
Line 2- Iphone 5 TDP (mom's)
Line 3-Note 3 UDP (me)

My dad is up for an upgrade (I still have 9 months to go)...From reading other posts, I'm pretty sure there's still away to get mine to upgrade then use the Best Buy method (which is how I got my Note 3 in the first place last year, but used my own upgrade). Each time I read the posts, I immediately get confused on how to go about it

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

1) Order a nano-SIM card by calling Verizon and having one shipped to you
2) Order the new iPhone from Best Buy using the upgrade on your line.
3) When the new phone arrives, do not turn it on or plug it in, remove the SIM card that ships with the phone and destroy it
4) Log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device
5) If you are asked do you want to activate or verify the phone that just shipped to you, click on "No, I want to activate a different device" or "Not activating my new device at this time, take me to the Activate or Switch Device page"
6) Click you want to activate a device that has not been on your account before
7) Type in the IMEI of the device and SIM card number of the SIM card you ordered in Step 1
8) Continue to follow the instructions

If you run into problems, just let the forum know and we can help. If you decide to add your parents to your plan, there is a different method you can do (though the above one should still work).

I got as far as step 7. I entered the imei number and I got a message that said "we're sorry! Unfortunately none of the lines on your account is eligible to receive an online authorization code. You will not be able to add a new device to your account. Please call......"
I changed the SIM card in the phone but I still have not turned the phone on.

What do I do now? Should my new phone with my new sim be turned on at this point? HELP

How long ago did your husband upgrade to his phone? Generally, you need at least 1 phone to have been on its line for 30 or more days to receive an activation code.

If the SIM sizes are different
1.) Order the phone you want using the basic upgrade and have it shipped to home
2.) When the new phone arrives, log onto Verizon and click "switch or activate device"
3.) Select your Line
4.) Select activate a phone that has never been on the account before
5.) Type in the IMEI and SIM number of the new phone and follow the rest of the directions

If the SIM sizes are the same
1.) Order the phone you want using the upgrade on the basic line and have it shipped to home
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in
3.) Remove the SIM that came with the new phone and put in your old SIM from the Note 3

He upgraded to his iPhone 6 about a year ago. But he is on his own acct, with his own number. Our accts are not connected at all. He lost his upd about 3 years ago. I just used his name and acct to get a nano sim.

the way I uderstand the post is that I just need a new nano sim and once I activate it on my new phone it will automatically go onto my UDP.

Also don't know if this matters but the past month or so I've swapped out about 3 different I Phone 4s bc of a battery issue. I finally gave up bc they keep sending me refurbished crap. Can this be why??

Try activating your husband's iPhone with the new SIM card you ordered before upgrading. Do you get the same error message?

I actually just tried re-activating my original 4s and I am getting the same error message. I can call them on this I guess??

You have the basics down on what is happening to your account. The new SIM is not programmed to any account. By ordering it ahead of time, you get a blank SIM that can then be added to your unlimited line.

My guess is that the constant switching of 4s's is causing the issue; though, it is tough to say for sure. What happened when you tried your husband's phone?

I didn't try his. He is working so I won't be able to try his till tomorrow. But he no longer has UDP so I don't wanna risk losing that. I've been reading up a lot on this and I see other posts about a switch order that gets placed in an account that need to be removed. Can that be it?

that wouldn't cause him to start paying for data though if I'm "upgrading" on his line?

You only have a couple of options are this point:

Option 1: Take the phone to a VAR and see if they will activate it for you. I have seen positive posts on the new Slickdeals thread, but you are on your own with this one

Option 2: Start over. You will need to return the new iPhone, get your old 4s reactivated on the account, and have your upgrade restored. Once this is done, I would recommend trading phones with your husband for a little bit. Then do the Best Buy method and give him his phone back.
