[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just do the following:

1.) Order the new iPhone using Line 1's upgrade from either Best Buy or Verizon. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in.
3.) Log into Verizon's website
4.) Select "activate or switch device"
5.) Select Line 2
6.) Select "phone that has never been on the account before"
7.) Select "use pre-existing SIM"
8.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new phone. Usually, there is a sticker on the box that contains them.
9.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the phone

Now repeat using Line 2's upgrade in step 1 and selecting Line 1 in step 5. This will get you two new iPhones on both unlimited lines and extend them into a new 2 year contract. Just make sure to do two separate orders and do not confuse the phones!!!

Thank you! Would I replace the SIM cards from our current iPhones? Which have you found easier to buy the phones from, bestbuy or Verizon?

I'm pretty sure that the 4s doesn't have a removable SIM and that's why the steps don't mention using them.

As for easier, I typically recommend Best Buy because if you are having problems you can always take the phone to a VAR.

The reason I mentioned that was I had to pick something up at Apple yesterday and he was looking at my phone and told me if I want the new 6 he would take out my sim and put it in the 6.

It appears the iPhone 4s does have a microSIM and is a 4G device. Which is different from the iPhone4 which is a 3G device without SIM of any type.

Apple iPhone 4s specs

*EDIT* The iPhone 4S is not an LTE device

Yes, but it's not a LTE SIM. The SIM in a 4s allows it to connect to other GSM networks and be called a "global phone". Apple didn't start supporting LTE until the iPhone 5.

You dealt with a dumb rep. The 4s is not a Verizon LTE phone. It's SIM is to connect to other GSM networks and be a global phone.

If I'm reading correctly, you want to get a G4 for Line 1 and an iPhone 6+ for Line 2. Assuming this is the case, do the following to get the 6+ on Line 2:

To get the G4 on Line 1, do the following:

1.) Order the G4 using Line 2's upgrade from either Best Buy or Verizon. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in.
3.) Remove the SIM that comes with the G4 and destroy it
4.) Take the old SIM from the S3 and put it in the G4
5.) Turn on the G4 to activate the phone on Line 1

Now enjoy your two new phones.

Only use Line 2's upgrade if you are prepared to cut the SIM in the S4 to nano-size. Otherwise, just do the following:

1.) Order the S6 using either Line 1/3/4's upgrade from either Best Buy or Verizon. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in.
3.) Log into Verizon's website
4.) Select "activate or switch device"
5.) Select Line 2
6.) Select "phone that has never been on the account before"
7.) Select "use pre-existing SIM"
8.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new phone. Usually, there is a sticker on the box that contains them.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just wanted to post an update. I ordered the Note4 as per above instructions on Wednesday. Best Buy has them on sale currently for $199 compared to $299 on Verizon. Received the package yesterday...and the "your package has been shipped" email today. smh

I went thru the instructions and double checked my account and I can still see the UDP on the line I updated and the upgrade date on the dumb phone line extended by 2 years. I don't see any "pending activation" on the line but I won't lose any sleep over that. I'll burn the sim card that the Note4 came with.

I was planning to change Line2 text plan from 250 to 1000 messages. Do you know if making changes to any of my plans in the next few days will effect the UDP? Should I wait any period of time before doing that?

Thanks "dusoccer10" for your help!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I was trying to use the Best Buy method for 1 line currently with UDP, but could not get the Samsung S5 shipped on the Best Buy website. It kept saying in store pick up only. Has anyone encountered this, and was there any workaround to get the phone shipped?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hmm, I was going through the process of purchasing a Moto X 2nd gen "Designed by you" from Verizon. When you click to the button to design it, it takes you to the Motorola website and informs me that I'll lose my UDP, but it's also telling me to call Verizon to complete my account changes. Not sure if I can purchase this phone and still keep UDP.

I know Costco and Motorola are a no-no for using the best buy method. Several people on slickdeals.net lost unlimited by using those companies.

Glad I stopped right where I was at then and didn't enter any account info. Guess we will stick to the normal version directly from Verizon. Thank you for the clarification.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

And just to be sure when I'm ordering these new phones and Verizon tells me to choose another plan during the order process, I just pick the 2GB plan? Since I'm not going to be activating the phone on the line thats using the upgrade it'll never switch?

Correct. Just give each individual line a 2GB plan. The plan change doesn't actually happen until you activate the SIM on the line that the upgrade was used. In your method, you'll reprogram the SIM to the other unlimited line; thus, keeping unlimited data.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just use the upgrade on the basic line to get a new phone for Line 1. All you need to do is the following:

1.) Order the phone you want using the basic line's upgrade from either Best Buy or Verizon. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in.

At this point, the steps will vary depending on the new phone you order. This is because of the SIMs in each phone

Same Size SIM
3.) Take the SIM out of the G2 and put it in the new phone
4.) Turn on the new phone and give it a couple of minutes to activate

Different Size SIMs (you can either cut your existing SIM to the right size or do the following)
3.) Log into Verizon's website
4.) Select "activate or switch device"
5.) Select Line 1
6.) Select "phone that has never been on the account before"
7.) Select "use pre-existing SIM"
8.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new phone. Usually, there is a sticker on the box that contains them.
9.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the phone

Of course, you can always purchase a phone at full price if you want. Verizon's Iconic Portal (https://preorder.verizonwireless.com/iconic/) is usually your best bet.

If you do the method above, it will not result in a $30 monthly charge to basic line. This happens because you never actually activate the phone on the line.

Thanks, just activated LG G4 per your instructions and so far so good. Thanks dusoccer!! Still says unlimited :)
