[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I currently have the S5 with UDP and upgrade eligible along with three dumb phones with no upgrades. I want to upgrade to the S6. Am I correct that my option in order to not cut the SIM card would be to 1) transfer the upgrade to a dumb phone, 2) order the S6 with a TDP, 3) when it arrives, reprogram the SIM with the UDP line?

Correct.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, I've been mulling this over for awhile now. I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus with unlimited data. I'd like to upgrade it to the Nexus 6 or maybe another Samsung Galaxy something-or-other. I just want a newer phone with better hardware.

This is the only phone line/account I have with Verizon. So if I understand correctly, I will have to physically cut my sim card to fit in the Nexus 6? Are there any circumstances for which Verizon will give me a new sim card tied to my same plan? Of course, I want to keep my exact same data/voice/sms/mms plan.

I will probably just pay full price, either through Verizon. Google Play, Motorola, or wherever... I just NEED my unlimited data!

Any advice is appreciated. I'll keep combing this thread for info too.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

As long as you don't get a subsidized phone thru Verizon, you will keep your udp. Once you have the phone in hand, either call or go to corporate store for a different SIM. Verizon doesn't charge for a new sim card. If you don't believe me, call CS. I hope I read correctly what you are saying. 😁

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My mother wants to purchase my sister a new phone since hers is a beat to hell.

I'm the account holder and here is our set up:
1) Galaxy Nexus (4G) - UDP (Mine)
2) iPhone 4S (3G) - UDP (Sister)
3) Basic Line (Mother)

All are upgrade eligible. What's the best way to go about getting my sister a new phone even though she does not have a sim? And do I want to avoid having a "Pending activation" on my account? I've been skipping through this threads pages, some say it goes away after a while, while others want to avoid it.

Since I assuming you and your sister don't want to lose udp. Upgrade the basic line to a 2gig data plan. Activate the phone, then call or go into a corporate store and have them switch lines. Your sister gets the new phone and mom gets the iPhone. Unfortunately, you won't be able to downgrade back to a basic line. Verizon doesn't allow that any longer. Verizon doesn't care which line has the new phone so they will give /switch sim card number.
Other option is to buy a phone at full price. Again call/corporate store for a sim card.
Anyone else have input on this?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey everyone, I've done the upgrade transfer once before using two Samsung phones (with sim-cards), but I wanted to see what's the best method in this case:

Line 1: Galaxy S3 UDP -upgrade
Line 2: iPhone 4 2gb plan (no sim) - No uprgade

The S3 with UDP was do for an upgrade, so I transferred it to the iphone TDP, and ordered a Galaxy S6. I'm not sure what's the best way to activate the new S6 under the iphone 4 TDP line, and then how to reactivate the iphone 4 back to its old line, considering there's no sim.

I'm assuming I use the sim provided with the S6, activate it under the iphone 4 TDP line. Then deactivate it, and reactivate the old iphone 4?

Thanks.

Does your mom want a smartphone or keep the basic? Depending on this answer will determine what is the best way to proceed.

You have the right idea. Once the S6 arrives home, just do the following:

1.) Activate it on the tiered line. You should be able to follow the directions that came with the phone since you ordered it on the tiered line.
2.) Wait at least an hour and make sure the phone works
3.) Power off the S6
4.) Log into Verizon online and reactivate the iPhone
5.) Power off the S3 and activate the S6 on the unlimited line

If you purchase the phone full price, you can use the SIM that comes with the phone as it is already programmed to unlimited data. If you are order a phone via a 2-year contract, then you would need to cut your old SIM.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So, I am attempting to keep my UDP and upgrade my phone. My situation is a little different, so I want to confirm the steps. My boss let me use an upgrade from the company verizon account to upgrade an iphone on a TDP to an s6. What are the steps to activate the s6 on my personal account and keep unlimited data? Do I need to activate on company line, then deactivate, can I just add the phone to my account in my verizon page? I currently have an S4 on my personal account. Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all,

I have

Line 1: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 2: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 3: iPhone 5 2GB TDP - Yes upgrade

Can you guys review my plan? I want to upgrade the iPhone 5 to a Samsung s6 edge, give it the UDP, and give the current line 2 Note 2 the 2GB TDP.

1. Go to Verizon website.
2. Upgrade the iPhone 5 to the s6 edge and order it to home.
3. Wait for the phone to arrive.
4. Receive the phone.
5. Take it out and not turn it on and put the SIM card from the line 2 note 2 in the s6 edge then turn it on.

Is this the right method for my specific situation? I've read other methods where the person doesn't put in the SIM card and calls a VZW rep through customer service. Will I still have 2 UDPs and 1 TDP in the end? Or should I just go to Costco and have them do it for me?

1.) Upgrade the iPhone to the s6 edge from Best Buy or Verizon. You can do this in-store or online.
2.) If you order online, activate the s6 edge on Line 3 when it arrives
3.) Wait at least an hour and make sure the s6 edge works
4.) Log into Verizon online and go to "activate or switch device". Switch the devices between Line 2 and 3.

This should get you what you want. If step 4 doesn't work, take both phones to a VAR and they will switch them for you.

You could go either way. As long as the company doesn't plan on making any changes to its plan, you can just activate the s6 directly on your personal account.

Thanks for the quick response. Do I use the SIM card from my current phone or just leave the preinstalled one in there?

You current S4 SIM card will not work as it is the wrong size. Just take the S6 to a Verizon store or VAR and they should be able to activate it for you.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Since Verizon does activation through SIM card won't this cause the s6 edge to be on the 2GB TDP? Do I take the note 2 SIM card and activate the s6 edge with the note 2 SIM card?

The note 2 and S6 edge use different size SIM cards. The note is micro and the S6 edge is a nano. You'll initially activate the S6 edge on the tiered line for about an hour (the benefit to this is that it removes the pending activation on line 3). When you do the switch function, the SIM cards get reprogrammed for the appropriate lines. You'll reprogram the nano-SIM that comes with the S6 edge to the unlimited data plan. The vice versa is true of the micro-SIM card in the Note 2.

One other question, does anyone know if I have to backup the contacts on the iPhone 4? Since I'll be at first activating the iPhone 4 line on the S6, and then switching back and reactivating the iPhone 4 under its old line. I'm assuming everything will be there when I reactivate, but I'm not 100% positive on that.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

tried to use the bestbuy method and I was told there was a problem and that to fix it they would have to manually call Verizon in order to finish the order. So I cancelled the order. Why did this happen and if I try the method again will it happen again? Also could I use Amazon instead?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can someone verify that Amazon still works and that I won't be charged a ETF?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

BestBuy.com now has the Samsung Galaxy Note4 on sale for $1.
They also have the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $1
