[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You'll probably need to wait a few months so that the pending activations fall off. Typically, they do not allow plan changes and that could be what is holding everything up.

But if you use the Bestbuy method there should be no pending activation correct? Since no basic phone or other lines are being used other than the UDP to upgrade (plainly moving one sim card to the new phone)?
Is there a way to see if there is a pending activation on the account?

The only method that does not leave a pending activation is using or transferring an upgrade to a tiered line and activating the device on the tiered line. That's why it is the preferred method for upgrading.

If you have a family plan, to check to see if you have a pending activation on your line:

1) log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch devices;
2) select a different line from the one whose upgrade was used;
3) click switch devices and select the line whose upgrade was used but do not proceed any further.

If you get the message below then you have a pending activation on the line:

"Our records indicate you recently purchased a device for this line of service but have not activated it yet. You have the option to proceed with your device swap after you have activated your new device, or you may contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for further assistance"

Would it be safe to change around the plan as soon as all 3 lines don't have the pending activation message?
How long does pending message stick around for?
Sorry for the constant questions.. just super paranoid about losing the UDP somehow since its been years the last time we upgraded

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I need help. I want to get the S6 on line 1 and keep my UDP. This is what I was thinking of doing but scared since I not sure it will work.

Line 1: iPhone 5- UDP- Upgrade Available
Line 2: S6 Edge- TDP- Upgrade Available

1. I would go to Verizon and upgrade line 2 to the S6
2. Go home and go online to switch S6 Edge back to line 2 to free S6.
3. Take out my iPhone 5 sim and put it in the S6.
3. Go back online active the S6 to line 1.

Would that work and keep my UDP?

Line 1: "Motorola" Droid Razr Maxx HD (Micro-SIM) - UDP
Line 2: Upgrade Available - Basic

I've used the upgrade on line 2 to order a "Samsung" Galaxy S6 (Nano-SIM). Will the following instructions (from earlier in this thread) work in my situation?

1) Through Verizon online, order the new smartphone using a basic line's upgrade on the basic line, picking the 2GB data plan for the basic line and have it shipped to home not shipped to store;

2) When the new smartphone arrives, do not turn it on, rather log onto Verizon online and click activate or switch a device; and

3) Select an unlimited line and that you want to activate a device that has not been on your account before, type in the IMEI of the new smartphone and the SIM card number of the SIM card that shipped with the new smartphone and follow the directions to activate the new smartphone on the UDP line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just curious, since I am paranoid even though I have read this entire thread. I went online and transferred the upgrade from my UDP line to a TDP line on my family plan. After completing the order when I go to my Verizon it shows that there is a pending order on my UDP line. Does this mean when I activate the device it will overwrite my UDP line since the order seems to be connected to that phone number or is this what always happens?

Once all pending activations fall off the line, it is safe to make plan changes or contact Verizon as necessary. Pending activations take about a month to fall off.

I answered you on the other thread, but I'll also put it here for others to see:

1.) Go to Verizon and upgrade Line 2 to a S6.
2.) Drive home and wait at least an hour
3.) Power off the S6 and the iPhone 5.
4.) Take the SIM out of the S6 and put it in the S6 edge. Turn on the S6 edge and give it a couple of minutes to activate.
5.) Once the S6 edge is active, take out the SIM from the iPhone 5 and put it in the S6. Turn on the S6 and wait a couple of minutes for it to activate.

Those steps should work. If they do not, you have two options:

1.) Cut the micro-SIM down to a nano
2.) Toss the SIM that comes with the S6 and take the phone to VAR for activation. I would only go this route if you ordered the phone from Best Buy.

On the email confirmation, which phone number is listed? The tiered or unlimited?

Thank you very very much. So I won't have to log in online to do anything? Just switch SIM cards?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, it is possible. You are asking about an Assumption of Liability where a different person takes over the account. It's all or nothing, so you can't "sell" just one line.

hmm, while not 100% certain, i am 99% certain they can sell just one line. At my job, i transfer liability of a single line all the time from personal account to a corporate account. even those who have their wife and/or kids on their personal account.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It depends. If you wanted to buy a 2014 Moto X on contract (i.e. for $50), you cannot use Motomaker.com. Motorola automatically pushes through the plan change when the phone is shipped. They do not wait for activation like Best Buy does.

If you wanted to buy the 2014 Moto X ($299) or Moto X Pure Edition ($399), this would be considered a full price purchase and not affect your unlimited data.

knowing moto pushes the plan change is the answer i was looking for, thank you

All phones involved in your process use a nano-SIM. It's just putting the right SIM in the correct phone. The SIM will automatically activate the device to the phone number that is associated with it. That's why it is very easy.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I've been following this thread for quite some time. I planned on waiting for either the Note 6 or Iphone 6s, but it seems that wont be happening according to Verizon's upcoming changes. I would like to upgrade before the changes occur but i just want to make sure i do the process entirely correct.

Plan: Nationwide Family Share 550

Line 1: Galaxy S4 Unlimited data plan. Eligible for upgrade
Line 2: Basic/Dummy Line with flip phone (No data). Eligible for upgrade.

What would be my best course to take to keep my unlimited? Thank you in advance!!

Depends on the new phone you want and whether you want to order the phone from Best Buy or Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

dusoccer,

I just purchased an LG G4 through the Best Buy system and had it sent to my house. The strange thing was that it said that I would be changed to the 2 gb plan but recall seeing that I should ignore that blue box. Any thoughts?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It seems Verizon has come up with a way to eliminate all of these options and the only way to keep unlimited data now is to buy retail.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I called Verizon and they told me that they will still have the 2 year subsidized phones.
