[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Is this normal to see during checkout? Doing the BB Method, if you never activate the phone with the SIM that comes with it, can't they technically charge you the rest of the retail price?

Has anyone had success with the BB Method in the last week?

There are many reports of the BBM working. I ordered 2 phones on different orders last night and saw the same screen you posted. A bit later in the process there's a drop down icon by "recurring charges". If you click it it shows keep existing plan and when I finished the process I had took screen shots of the final page where it shows keep existing plan. My screw up was on one of the orders there was an old credit card on file that I accidentally used. It must have triggered something because I received an email after I'd placed the order that there was a problem and that I needed to contact them. They called me this morning before I had a chance to call them and after some discussion they wanted the last 4 digits of my SS and my 4 digit billing number so they could check out my Verizon account. I told them to cancel the orders and never game them my account information they wanted.

It's very important to not give them this information because they can then force the order through and it's been reported that everyone who has done this has lost unlimited data. So at this point my Verizon account shows that I've lost my 2 upgrades on the two lines but my contract has been extended by 2 years. I'm wondering if I don't say anything I'll be safe for another 2 years from the price increase. I don't really need the upgrades for awhile since we just purchased 2 Pure's outright. I'm debating on calling Verizon though to have them restore my upgrades.

There's a huge thread over at Slickdeals with tons of info on the subject.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Alternatively if I was to do the alternate upgrade via verizon.com do I activate it first on the basic line then put the basic phone (will become a line with data) back on than that frees up the phone to be put on the udp line extending the contract???

Also if I was to order on the udp line via bestbuy.com ship to home do I just take out the new sim burn it and then use my old udp sim in the new phone thereby extending the udp line contract? Is there a downside to this such as a pending activation needing to fall off? Thanks

1.) If you transfer the upgrade to the basic line, definitely DO NOT activate the smartphone on it. That will convert the basic line to a tiered data and you'll be stuck with the $30 a month charge for 2 years. When the smartphone arrives, just activate it directly onto the unlimited line.

2.) With the Best Buy Method, you are right on the money. Just use your old SIM and activate the phone directly that way. Other than a pending activation for about a month, it's fairly straight forward.

The only way to get your upgrades restored is to be taken off contract. It's a both/and process where you get your upgrades back, but you also go back to month-to-month.

It might be best to stay as I am as long as I avoid the $20/mo increase on our two UDP lines.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I've been reading up on the methods to upgrade the contract date on UDP accounts. But I have a question.

Here's my situation: I have a vzw account with 5 lines and my wife has a separate vzw account with 4 lines.
My lines are:
2 UDP, no contract
1 Tiered, on contract
2 basic, on contract

Wife lines are:
2 UDP, no contract
1 Tiered, on contract
1 basic, on contract

My question is if I decide to transfer UDP upgrades to a tiered line (one by one obviously) and use the BB method to get say S6's, none of the SIM cards in the current tiered (or UDP) phones will work in the S6's. So I assume I'll simply active the phones on the tiered line for an hour w/ using them a little and then just switch back to the old phone freeing up the new S6's. At that point the phone is free but I would need to go get a nano SIM, so what happens when I show up at vzw to get the nano SIM and try to move the phone from my UDP? I don't think they will simply give me a new SIM without activating it on a line.

I hope I laid all that out so it's understandable. :)

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't want to give you bad info but here's a link to a long thread at slick deals where you can lay out your situation and get help. Tons of good information there but be sure to read the original post at the top of the page and post your line situation like the examples.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, here's where I am. @dusoccer10 (or anyone else familiar with keeping good VZW customers from now overpaying for UDP), let me know if I got this right.

1) Went over to Best Buy.
2) Put Wife's UDP line to order iPhone 6s 16GB (relax guys...I'm just selling them to the iSheeple. lol.)
3) Put my UDP line to order same thing.
4) Wait a couple a week.
5) Destroy sim.
6) Sell phone.
7) Wait some time until I am on contract but do not lose unlimited.

I am ordering the phones now. I just want to make sure I don't ---- this up. Always so nervous about losing unlimited...mind you, I'd almost be ok if it weren't go $60 a month increase for 3 lines.

Is there a way to do an alternate upgrade via bestbuy.com and either do ship to home or store pick up??? I can't remember the steps I did on best buys website to get my lg G3. Any help would be appreciated !!

If Best Buy is not allowing you to transfer the upgrade to the basic line, that is because they have put an Early Edge offer on it. In other words, you can upgrade the basic line only if you a device payment. This means that you can only do the upgrade transfer to the basic line via Verizon's website.

1.) I hope you are doing this online
2.) Make sure to make them two separate orders
3.) You should go on contract once the phones ship
4.) Destroy SIMs as soon as they arrive
5.) Profit!

SIMs can be reprogrammed to the unlimited line, so you do not need new ones. With that said, you can definitely walk into Verizon and have them activate it without any problems.

First, thank you for the reply.

Okay...so I will have used the new SIM's in the new phones temporarily on the TDP line. Once I switch back the old phone to the TDP line the new phone and programmed SIM can stay together and be taken to VZW to have them reprogrammed onto my UDP lines. I assumed I'd pull the SIM after the switch back, find a VAR to buy a new nano SIM and program the phone to my UDP line. My other concern is the pending equipment order, will that clear off as soon as the phone is activated on the TDP? I have another UDP line that I need to upgrade as well and would like to just rinse and repeat using the same process.

When I do the transfer of upgrade via Verizon's website I use my old udp sim not the new one when I activate the new phone correct? Thanks!

The pending activation will fall off the tiered line once you activate the phone for about an hour. When you reactivate the old phone, this will deactivate the SIM that comes with the S6. At this point you can try to use the online system to activate the S6 on the unlimited line using the deactivated SIM. It should work just fine. If it doesn't, taking the phone to a VAR would work.
