[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So now on VZW it shows that I can't upgrade my current phone any more. However it still doesn't show I'm under contract yet. Hope that changes soon. Once I get the phone and complete the BB method, if I don't want to keep the phone can I go back to my old one? How long do I have to wait?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So VZW has taken it, It now shows:

Contract End Date:11/13/2017

It took a little over an hour as I order my phone at 3:30 PM CST and now its 4:45 PM CST. Still have UDP! Now just need to find out about how long I will need to keep the new phone before I can sell it, and if I need to do anything before I can.

I would put a new phone on that line then sell the new one at any time. This is after you get the new phone in your possession and activated on your UDP line using old sim if you did the bb method

He Did the whole thing in vzw. No BB method. If that works why bother with BB method?

Because he shouldn't have done that. People on the slickdeals thread have reported losing unlimited when doing the Best Buy method through Verizon. This method is to be done though some 3rd party retailers.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sorry if I have missed this, but I just found this thread and I read through quite a few pages at the beginning and quite a few at the end of the thread and didn't see anything about a single line.
Is there anyway to keep UDP with a single phone and only 1 total line on the account?
Thanks for any input or direction.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for confirming this method works.

Let me clarify my question: I have 2 UDP lines and 1 TDP. My mom and I each have a UDP line, however my mom doesn't use much data at all. My husband is on the TDP line and I would rather he have the UDP line. Is it possible to swap my mom and husband's plans?

Also, even though we would be avoiding the additional $20 monthly fee that Verizon is charging us for having a UDP, by signing another 2 year contract, don't we get hit with the new $40/line monthly fee? So in the end we're still paying an extra $10/month/UPD line? Am i missing something?

No. Your plan already contains the phone subsidy. There is no extra charge.

As for swapping data plans, it can be done. However, it involves porting the numbers out and back into Verizon. It takes about a week to complete and both of them will have limited availability during the process.

Best Buy method is your friend. Just order online from Best Buy, ship the phone to home, discard the SIM that comes with the new phone, and use your old SIM to activate the new phone.

How does the porting work?or how would you suggest approaching this?

Oh thats great to hear! Thanks dusoccer10! How would you suggest approaching this? who would be able to help me with the porting? And would I be able to still keep UDP with 11/15 coming up in 2 days. I was actually going to head to Best Buy tonight or tomorrow to just say the heck with it and convert my plan to the XXL and get the S6 with the $250 Best Buy gift card promo.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi, thanks in advance for your reply!

I'm back at this and I know I've asked before but now I am looking at the BBM, as I want to extend my UDP while avoiding the $20 increase. My lines are as follows:

Line 1: UDP, month to month, upgrade available. Current phone GS4. Upgrade to either GS6 or Note 5
Line 2: UDP, month to month, upgrade available. Current phone GS4. Upgrade to either GS6, or Note 5
Line 3: Basic phone, month to month, upgrade available.

I would like to purchase tonight if possible. I am looking to upgrade both line 1 and 2, and ideally take advantage of some of the sale prices going on via BB as well as the instant-contract renewal that applies through BB (to get it done before the 15th).

Couple questions please.

What is the process?
Do I need to order the phone I want for line one using line 2's upgrade and vice versa like I would if I were upgrading through VZW?
I hear there are some concerns upgrading using the BBM through BB and still losing the UDP - or am I not understanding the warnings? I know there's always a risk but just not sure if there is any greater risk more recently?
I'm not 100% clear on the SIM card process. I read elsewhere that there are a few options, either cutting down the SIM or going to a VAR location and paying them to activate? Can you clarify this please and if there is a better more reliable method? No concerns with paying the VAR to do this if that is the only downside with that option...

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently I'm missing something. What's the fundamental difference between the Best Buy method and Verizon? Isn't it just transferring your upgrade from a UDP line to a non-UDP line, making your purchase, tossing the new SIM card, and putting the SIM from the UDP line into the new phone?

I don't understand what you are saying. You paid full price?

You asked why bother with the Best Buy Method.

I answered with phones may be cheaper or a person may not have a line to transfer the upgrade to.

Best Buy Method doesn't involve another line.

What Ry said. I didn't realize you transferred the upgrade. That definitely works at Verizon or Best Buy. However, that is not the "Best Buy Method".

If you are going to keep unlimited, I would just do the best buy method for each line that you have. Get them under contract should be your first priority.

As for porting in and out, I can help you with that next week. I'm currently traveling, but I'll be free to get you through it on Monday.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I tried to do the bb method today unsuccessfully. The didn't give me the option to keep my plan or change my plan for that matter. And even though I tried to push it through I kept getting an error that my application was already submitted. No record or evidence of a purchases at all. Wierd. Different than it was three years ago.

Anyone if you try to upgrade online through the verizon website through a 2 year contract if it takes you off of unlimited if you have it shipped?

Don't do that.

Only use Verizon if you are transferring an upgrade.

I had the same issue trying it for my wife's line last night.

Can the order be placed by going into the store, and having it shipped to home?

EDIT: Tried again this morning... First I added/saved my Credit Card info to my BB account before attempting to place the order. It went through! My wife is getting a new iPhone 6s...

My unlimited line is under contract till august 2016, and no upgrades available.. any way to extend it past that?
