[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

L1 UDP, no contract, upgrade available
L2 UDP, no contract, upgrade available

Both paying the +$20

I have bought a new phone for L2, full retail, online from Verizon, no change to my contract. The current phone on L2 is a GS4 with a micro sim, new phone uses nano, which Verizon is including with new phone. Should I activate and use the new one, or cut my micro down to nano,or does it not matter?

You paid do retail so use the SIM that comes with the new phone.

Thank you - I figured I was worrying about nothing and could use the new sim. Phew :-)

Full retail = no problems.

And since you're paying the extra $20 for each line, I think you're OK as long as you buy new phones either full retail or on a Device Payment Plan.

To re-clarify -

I have 2 UDP lines, both are eligible for an upgrade. If i use bestbuy to order my phones (SHIPPED) and just swap the sims (FROM MY CURRENT PHONES) into the other line (L1 SIM goes into L2 phone, L2 SIM goes into L1) then both UDP's stay intact?

Yes, that works fine. Just be careful about which phones you put the sims into and never take them out.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I'm trying to figure out a handful of items...

1. Is there any way to get your current contract extended so that the $20/month extra cost for unlimited data won't be imposed? I have until May before my contract expires and my bill will be $20 extra per month after that date.

2. I'm assuming after reading through all the posts that we are now out of luck to use our upgrade (purchasing subsidized phone) and still maintaining the unlimited plan.

3. Is it possible to sell you unlimited line to someone and how difficult is it? Aka is it worth the effort. Not sure I can justify paying $20 extra/month where I only use about 10gb/month (never turning wifi on).

4. Any other creative ideas for either getting a subsidized phone and keeping unlimited or extending your contract and not paying the new $20 extra charge. As to get both of these wishlist items seems impossible anymore.

Any input is welcomed as I did the BBM as a result of this this thread 2 years ago. Thanks for the help.

1. Yes you can. It's been explained several times in the last few pages of this thread.

2. No, you can get an upgraded phone and keep UDP. But you can't use that phone on your UDP line.

3. No clue.

4. Both are possible. Go read the OP of this thread. http://slickdeals.net/f/7743625-ver...a-2-year-data-plan-on-a-nationwide-basic-line

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It is my understanding that this has changed. If you use a subsidized phone on an UDP line you will lose UDP on that line. Verizon now checks the MAC address of the phone.

If you use a subsidized phone on the UDP line that provides the upgrade to purchase the phone, you will lose UDP. It is still possible at this time to use a subsidized phone from a different line.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sorry if this has been addressed previously.

I currently have a basic phone (upgrade available) and 2 UDP lines (no upgrade available). Is it possible to upgrade the basic phone, to say an iPhone 6 S, destroy the SIM that comes with the phone and place the SIM from one of my current UDP lines into the new phone and maintain UDP?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, but they will put a data plan on your basic line. I believe it goes away if you never activate the phone on that line, but I'm not certain.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just wanted to give you guys an update... I have a single udp line and did the new bbm then sell and everything seems to be going as planned I checked their website today and the pending activation is gone my Unlimited data is still intact.

Looking to pull the trigger on this as well. Has your contract end date been updated and will this keep you immune from the $20 UDP fee increase for now?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yeah my upgrade date was changed about an hour after upgrading and a full billing cycle has passed and I haven't gotten hit with the increase yet. Good Luck!

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Could you clarify???

So if I have an upgrade available on a UDP Phone Line....and have a Basic Phone Line (No upgrade available).....can I transfer the upgrade to the basic phone line, buy the new phone (i.e. LG G5) at subsidized price & not activate the new SIM, and instead put my UDP SIM into the phone and activate it or does Verizon close this loophole?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can I activate a phone bought on SWAPPA without calling Verizon like it's asking me too? I guess online right?

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You should be able to so long as the device isn't blacklisted or some other problem

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can confirm this method still works with the added step of swapping device.

L1 goes on L2 and L2 goes on L1 (the phones, because they track IMEI). Send sim cards that came with the new phones straight to trash (or hold on just in case for a return) - insert old/current sims, all set.

Hope it still works next year when I'm eligible besides one that is eligible this August!!!

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey Guys...

I've got an upgrade available on my UDP line. So, is there anyone out there that does as well and would entertain swapping upgrades? I'm in the Philly area. I'm looking to pick up the S7 Edge. Hit me up with a PM or a reply here and we can work it out.

Basically we both upgrade and then meet up to swap phones. There's the whole issue of what the cost of each upgrade is for each of us and blah blah. I'm not looking to make money. Just get both of us into the new phone we want and keep our UDP's.

Thanks!
