Maybe your brother is doing something wrong on the site or his bill isn't paid up to date or something. I will take what other members are posting that they did other then an members brother who can't get it to work.

Or maybe you could check it out yourself before disparaging myself or my brother.

I've been reading this thread for several years now and have contributed when I could, all the while learning from other's experience.

That is the beauty of this forum.

When I see someone post that they were able to get a subsidized price in the last couple of days and keep UDP I'll be very happy to follow the path they outline, but I'm afraid that VZ is plugging the holes in the system.

The only option I see is the Best Buy method, but considering the almost daily changes I've seen in the VZ site since 8/15, I am nervous that those holes are closing also.

Excuse me, but when we transfered upgrades from udp lines to dumbphone lines, activated them and moved the phones back to udp lines to get subsidized pricing I call that a "loop hole", best buy method is a "loop hole" (whether to sell the phone to raise money for a phone you can use or buy a $1 phone just to stay in contract).

My brother and I were talking about getting BB phones and trading, but it is a little bit further than we are willing to go...

Somehow with both of us owning our own businesses we tend to the consider the ethics involved.

That is not what verizon said in their public announcment when they announced the end of subsidized pricing for UDPs about four years ago.

Like I says I'm talking about the 2 year contacts only, not the UDP. And if you don't believe me that Verizon stated as much when the change happened you can read this link

This is why I mentioned in my other post I was only referring to the 2 year contacts.

Forgive me please, yes I took your incinuation that the reason my brother couldn't get the subsidized price was because he did something wrong or did not pay his bill personally.

I was confused about your non UDP statements on a thread pertaining to UDP upgrades.

Now I will crawl back into my cave and wait for someone with wisdom about UDP to share their experience.

Yesterday MyVerizon offered a subsidized upgrade but required giving up UDP.

Why doesn't Verizon have the guts to just eliminate unlimited data for all out-of-contract consumer accounts? They claim that there are very few left, so it most likely won't **** off enough customers to affect them financially. They've done much worse things to other customers over the last few years and they are still the number 1 carrier, right?

Verizon will never release the actual number of consumer accounts that are still holding on to unlimited data. However, my gut feeling is that the number must still be very large. Large enough that they don't dare risk customers defecting, if unlimited data goes away completely.

yup, it's definitely about Verizon extracting as much money as it can get away with.

there's no independent verification about what they say regarding users who "abuse" the bandwidth by using 100gb or more per month.

if Verizon can get away with it, they'll charge you $10 extra for not wearing red t-shirts on the first day of your billing cycle. (the Verizon red...) My ISP cable company increased the monthly bill by $3 for ALL customers, in the name of saving the environment(paperless billing). They said anyone who chose to go paperless billing can avoid the $3 increase. I wonder how many people actually bothered to do that.

Yep all about the benjamins for greedy big red, which is why I left Verizon and rocking cricket wireless proudly now....and I've used almost 200 GBs already in 9 days!!!! I would have never considered leaving Verizon in my whole life, but when they sent me that letter basically telling me to give up my unlimited data plan and switch to a Verizon plan, I knew it was game time then! Cricket has been just as good and in some instances a bit better than Verizon ....I'm happy that I'm saving almost $120 per month since the switch ....it's wonderful lol

Unlimited at Cricket is $70 a month, download speeds at a maximum of 8 Mbps for LTE. The mobile hotspot feature is not available with the plan.

My speeds usually are a little above the capped 8Mbps cricket says you can get, maybe because I'm using an unlocked AT&T phone, and my upload speeds are usually in the 20s as well. Normally my download speeds are around 10-11 Mbps, but I do miss the mobile hotspot feature I had with Verizon ....but I've adapted nicely however and for the most part, I do not miss Verizon...I have a ton of options for phones to use now that I'm on a GSM network. It's awesome-

I know....that mobile hotspot feature is what I miss the most, but I could activate it through unethical third party apps, but I'm not that type of guy....I've been thinking about getting another line with cricket just for hotspot usage....either way, I'll still be saving money than when I had a single unlimited data line with the $30 mobile hotspot with Verizon ....so I'm reality, I'm a happy camper ...I didn't think cricket could compete or compare to Verizon , but so far so good...

FYI Below. If I didn't have Verizon Unlimited Plan I would sign up for Cricket with a Smile on my face.

Unlike other “unlimited” data plans and Cricket’s own data plans, which throttle your data speeds after you exhaust your monthly 4G LTE data allowance, the newly announced unlimited data plan will not throttle customers. However, do note that you will be capped at 8Mbps for 4G LTE and 4Mbps for HSPA+. In other words, Cricket’s plan is unlimited in the amount of data you can use, not the speeds at which you can do so.
