[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I have 3 lines on my Verizon account 1 UDP, 1 4gb plan and 1 $10/month ghost line plan with no data. In the past I have used the ghost line plan to upgrade the UDP phone. After I upgrade, I've had to pay for data for one month on the ghost line and then cancelled the data after I swapped the new office to the UDP line. I was just trying to do this today and I'm getting a message saying I will need to keep the data plan on the ghost line for the entirety of the contract (2 years). Is this a new thing or can I still cancel after a month and get back to my $10/month ghost line? Any help would be appreciated.

It is not new. If you buy a smart phone on that line and activate it on that line you have to pay for the data for two years.

I'm not sure if this still works, but a work around was to never activate the phone on the line. So you buy the phone on the line, go through the process including the message saying keeping the data for two years. But over you very the phone destroy the SIM card and use the SIM card from the UDP phone.

Keep in mind I have never done this, and I can not say 100% if this still works.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes you can but my understanding is that volte And WiFi calling won't work, meaning no simultaneous voice and data. It might also not show up as a Verizon device meaning Verizon would provide limited support And also they would automatically remove insurance Which can't be added back unless you buy a new Verizon device or during open enrollment.

Thank you. So, if I bought the Pixel through Verizon (I won't, but just comparing scenarios), then volte and WiFi calling would work? Or if I bought through Google, then left Verizon and switched to Project Fi, then volte and WiFi calling would work?

Yes and yes

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Nationwide 450 minutes unlimited data

L1, upgrade available

It is asking me to pick a new data plan. I can choose any plan as long as I don't activate the phone on that plan correct?

Assuming you're talking Best Buy & Sell Method...

I was also upgrade eligible on a single $29.99 UDP line with Nationwide 450, and just ordered a Moto Z Force from Best Buy ($299, though I wish the Note 5 was available for shipping--I didn't trust store pickup to work), and it didn't ask me to choose a new data plan. It asked me to give two zipcodes (same zips for me), last-4 of Social, and Verizon PIN (if you have one, I did), and then came back (presumably after checking at VZW) saying I am eligible for an upgrade. The rest was usual checkout, nothing about a new plan. On my receipt, it says: "Verizon Wireless - Keep Existing Plan"

Is there a reason you got the Moto Z force to sell over an iPhone? Just trying to gauge what will give me the best value but will also be the least amount of hassle.

I see that it has the $150 GC, so I am guessing that is why.

iPhone would probably be the easiest to sell

What I have been reading though is that if you don't activate it on Verizon and sell it, it will lock to whatever carrier the buyer's SIM card is. So if they throw in a T-Mobile SIM Card, it will lock to T-Mobile. I guess I could put that in the ebay auction information but thought it might scare away people.

I would just sell it as a Verizon iPhone. No need to put any disclaimer.

No good reason. It just seemed that the Force is one of the more likely phones to ship with no problems (i.e., a less-in-demand phone). My primary goal is to save the $29.99 UDP, and I had read some earlier comments with some iPhoneconcerns (maybe it was delays due to OOS?). The resale-minus-outlay (using swappa "Sold" and "New" or "Mint") looked best among the non-iPhones (excluding the $1 phones that are pickup only). Plus I might give the Force to a friend, or use it myself in a scenario where BB-and-sell fails.

I'm not counting on the GC working, since it says it requires activation. So the GC didn't really enter into my decision.

Cool, thanks for the explanation. From what I have seen the GC should work, so that will be a nice bonus for you.

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Going to Best Buy tomorrow, just making sure I am correct.

L1, UDP 29.99 upgrade available
L2, TDP no upgrade
L3, UDP, no upgrade. 29.99

Going to have them transfer upgrade to L2 and activate. Then go to Verizon store and swap to L3. (Different SIM )

This will extend 2 year contract for L1, avoiding the additional $20 fee. Also UDP will not change for either line, correct?

Thanks so much for the help!

Only issue I can see is you are doing everything on person. They could make it risky.

Last time (a couple years ago) I tried to get Verizon to transfer an upgrade on the store they told me I would lose my UDP. So I went home and did it online with no issues. But I have no idea what BB will tell you.

After you get the phone activated on line 2 I would just go online to Verizon website and switch old phone back to line 2, that releases the new phone and you then can put it on line 3. All online without talking to anybody at Verizon or needing a new SIM card.

I tried to order online from Best Buy and can't transfer upgrade. In Best Buy store i was told they can. Unfortunately, line 2 and 3 birth have different size SIM cards than the G5.

Do it on Verizon's website. Use a sim cutter or adapter as needed

If BB says they will do it in the store without messing with the UDP then do that.

You don't need new SIM cards. Once the new phone is activated on line 2 you can get online with Verizon and move the phones were you want them without ever changing SIM cards.

What is best resale value right now? IP7 black 128GB? 32GB? Jet black vs. Black?

Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Jet black I would imagine
