International support?

I am currently planning on a trip internationally and was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny the assumption I have that the Verizon HTC One will work internationally with a modified cut up SIM card. If anyone knows if this works it would be greatly appreciated so I can budget my expenses ahead of time more precisely.

Yes it should. All other carrier variations of the HTC One work with international carriers. I checked and the Verizon HTC One has the same specs for global as others.

Just ensure with Verizon that it is unlocked for international carriers ... Don't want to get over there and get a SIM locked message .

I tested my One with a European 3G SIM card and it worked here in the US. I confirmed with Verizon that there was nothing that I needed to do (in terms of unlocking) to use that SIM. The phone is fully unlocked.

I haven't actually tried using it in Europe yet though so others might be able to provide better confirmation.

Internet access setup

I just got back from England and France and have a word of caution:

The phone part will work right away, but getting internet access is a PIA, as the various networks do not readily provide the settings you need to enable it.
I have an HTC Incredible 2, and it took me 3 days in Britain on O2 (don't go there - very poor signal) and 2 days in France (Lebara.fr) to enable Internet service. One I did, it was great to have Google maps and Yelp (better walking maps).



Try to get the needed information online before you leave. I found Lebara UK has a good page on internet setup, I just couldn't get their card sent to me in the states. Lebara Fance sent a SIM out right away, but has incomplete information on their site.

Lebara is about 10 pounds and 10 euros for base packages, and you have to contact them to enable the internet portion.

I use Vodafone when I travel in Italy and did find their APN settings online. I've used my previous blackberry phones on Vodafone and they pretty much fully reconfigured themselves when I arrived there (kind of annoying, actually.) I will be in Italy in late November so I'll enable internet access on my account before going and see if things "just work".

Thanks for the tip ... I'll be sure to have the APN settings just in case things don't switch over automatically.
