iOS 8, Your Thoughts?

Yeah, not a power user or anything, just a software engineer who built half their roms themself and is working with a small team on a full scale MMO for Windows Phone as we speak. No, the ability to flash a rom totally and the desire to modify something makes you more a power user. Definitely.

When something in Windows Phone is broken or half baked like Android's UI and keyboard, I'll be the first one to jump onboard the customization wagon. As it stands, I like having a phone that does everything it does exceptionally well and having my hardest decision to make being, "Hmm, do I want to use the nokia camera software or the stock camera software to take better pictures than I could on any other phone?"

E; and yes, it can very well be done. The problem is that no one has done it well.

What ROM have you built and what MMO are you working on? Links please.

If Android's UI is "half-baked" what is WP's UI? Raw? As it stands the basic Android UI has far more functionality. Hell you guys are barely getting a notification center/bar. rofl

The hardest decision I personally have to make is...."Hmm, do I want to control the HUE lights in my house with tasker via a widget (or voice command) so they turn red when the Bulls score?"

Meanwhile you are on WP trying to figure out how to use your shiny new file manager in 8.1 that is useless for even attaching files from different directories to e-mails haha.

lol that is even worse than half-baked.

Let's get back on topic.

Funny, I actually control my Oni lights with my windows phone. Voice activated and all. Perhaps you should look into what a user interface is though, it is the means by which you interact with the device. It is not the third party applications you install. Android's UI is as stagnant as they come, even iOS has surpassed it at this point. I'm okay with not having access to the file system though. Makes it where I don't have to worry about 48,000 malware apps hitting my marketplace in a year.

Windows Phone is the most stagnant. Same UI for 4 years! Still lacking basic features, still have less than 5% of the smartphone market, still have no attention from developers, still not getting any marketing. Come on now. Those in last place should never mock those in first.

I'm sorry you entered a market with no competition and subsequently succeeded? Pretty sure that's economics 101. The UI for Windows Phone isn't the same bland and unintuitive UI we had on Symbian in 2002.

As for my app, it's called Icari and we hope to have an open beta available before the end of July. The graphics are roughly that of Final Fantasy 6 but it offers a lot more depth and full MMO capabilities.

Do tell though, what major apps do you think we windows phone users still lack? I had someone try to bring up Instagram the other day. We get Gameloft games at the same time as you. We have Snapchat and Instagram and then we have better clients than any other OS with more features for both. We have pretty much every big name app one could want. You could argue that some of the smaller banks don't have apps for us I suppose?

You can control your ONI lights and make them change color when a team scores? Really? I would like to see a video of that please.

Oh and who said I thought UI were apps? My comment about the UI and comment about the apps are in different sentences right? Yeah I thought so.

I'm okay with not having access to the file system though.

Of course you would be; apologists have to be alright with the severe limitations of their OS.

So you get malware by opening up a file manager now?

lol now I am POSITIVE you haven't ever used an Android phone.

P.S. What were those roms and mmo you were working on?

I mentioned the MMO, it's called Icari and we should have an open beta by the end of July. Also, of course not. You get malware by using Google's play store.

As for the roms, I got banned by a fanboy on XDA and subsequently got removed. This was roughly in the Galaxy S2 days so it's nothing you'd see recently. I mostly maintain ATT's software these days and since Android is a fleeting interest I haven't really built roms since.

Oh, and I don't know about the light thing. I'd have to look into it. I know that I can set it that when I walk into a room the light comes on to whatever color or, "Mood." as they call it I have set. I don't personally watch sports outside of football and haven't toyed with them often enough but I may do so.

Regardless if you got banned your name should still be attached to the projects, posts, or other repositories.

Also is there a website or any info on your MMO? Google is showing nothing.

You mean all the new and popular apps and games? It goes from a game like Candy Crush to IFTT, to apps like all the Google Services ( a lot of people use them). But either way, we both know WP isn't going to take off anytime soon (mainly because of Microsoft's laziness) so you sit back and relax, we will enjoy our OS.

This discussion will go nowhere.

I have never gotten malware on my Android phone ever. Its a lot more rare for someone to actually happen than you think. It's the same thing other OS fans like to bring up to make their OS seem better. It does not just so you know.

You're new to the Android world. In 2010 someone released a copy of Guitar hero that was an exact copy of the .apk file except it was free... Oh, it also signed you up for tons of unwanted services. Forgot to mention that part, hijacked your data and passed it off to millions. BadNews effected somewhere between two and nine million last year and that's one of many malware applications to hit Android last year. Likely the biggest but still just one of a plethora. Just because it doesn't effect you doesn't make it rare. My girlfriend got malware on her phone and though not tech savvy, she's by no means an *****. She got it from a Groupon-esque app that had great reviews.

And? These isolated incidents don't make Android as a platform bad. Why don't we look at these people who have intent to make malware instead of blaming it on the company. But either way, this conversation is over. We went way off topic. Any further replies should be iOS 8 related only.

I think iOS 8 is massive mostly from the developers viewpoint which in turn helps USM

I think iOS 8 combined with the bigger iPhone 6 will be a record breaker for Apple. Android fans see iOS now had some Android capabilities and good ecosystem synergy, so it ain't nothing to sell all your Android and Google stuff and get a Macbook Air and a iPhone 6.

I don't like iPhones because they are so common in my city, but I have given a thought more and more of getting a iPhone.

My thoughts on iOS 8 are that its going to be a nice change. I left iOS in January not because of any major problems, I just saw the moto maker for motorola and wanted a phone color of my choice. I will stay with my Moto X for the 2 yrs unless something happens to it.
