iPhone 6's are bending when sitting down?

I think it's true

Posted via Android Central App with my Samsung Galaxy S5

It's not impossible for a phone to bend that is thin and long by sitting on/with it, which is actually stupid mind you. The Hoax part comes in, and not necessarily speaking about this thread, when there are all kinds of exaggerated reports and mocking of Apple for this. As technology gets thinner, it will be possible for other devices to bend as well.

Well then, DON'T MAKE THEM THAT THIN! This isn't rocket science, it's Engineering 101. Phones need to be engineered to stand up to standard use cases.

This isn't some fluke. Even the snarky iMore apologist admitted his iPhone 5 was bent and he doesn't know how it happened. These phones are bigger AND weaker than the IP5, so it's no surprise it's an issue.

^ What they said. Just don't make them so thin!!! I'm willing to bet that a HUGE majority of users would sacrifice some thinness to have a non-protruding camera, a bigger battery (!) and most of all, a phone that is able to withstand a pocket!

My argument, and I think most people's, is not that Apple should have done better to prevent bending with this design. As everyone seems to love saying, it's basic physics. But it really shouldn't be an unrealistic expectation for a company to build a phone that doesn't bend from being in your front pocket, even if that means a thicker design! Keep in mind, I'm not suggesting Apple hasn't built that phone. We'll have to wait and see if any more of these reports come out. But I have a bad feeling they will.

Re: The bend test: iPhone 6+ vs Note 3 - one of them fails

You can also charge your iPhone in the microwave lol lol.....

New version is to pop your bent iPhone in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes to soften the metal to allow it to straighten out.

I laughed...

Probably lying about the front pockets.

Those lairs! Always trying to ruin Apple's perfect reputation!

You have no idea.... That's what iMore is full of right now. Sitting wrong, putting it in the wrong pockets, just using it wrong generally... Some of them really can't accept that Apple made a mistake with their design. Too thin!

It won't be a problem for everyone, and it would still take a lot of force, but it's really not what I want to see.

The fact that Samsung's competitor can withstand the exact same force (and maybe more) with almost no damage is something Samsung should exploit in commercials.

It's not the thinness, it's the materials. The Note 3 survived the same Bend test the iPhone 6 failed. The idea that metal is better is a myth...it offers some benefits but also has it's own liabilities.

Even before the bending thing came up, I thought the same thing. It's not like the current crop of phones was too thick... most ran in the 8 to 9mm range, which can hardly be considered portly (historically the thinnest generation). Apple decided to get a little too cute and made obvious design concessions, placing form over function. Maybe they realized that it would have been nearly identical in size AND appearance to the HTC One M7.... dunno.

If you polled both iPhone 6 and 6+ owners and asked them if they would sacrifice a single millimeter of width and a bit of weight for a flush camera and a much larger battery.... I would be curious about the results.

Honestly, if the only thing to come out of this is manufacturers stop pursuing the ludicrous goal of ever-thinner phones, I'll call it a win for everyone.

Because they used the same smart method to include antennas etc? I don't think so...that's as bad as saying that Samsung copied Apple with rectangular phones!
Talking about the aesthetic design. Apple has sued for less resemblance. It's not by chance that the main color is silver or dark silver aluminum with access lines on the back which has been the unique design of HTC One phones. There is no doubt their aesthetic design was inspired by HTC one phones.

Fandroids are really having a good time with this. Less than a half dozen out of over 10,000,000 have an issue (or not), and suddenly it's a widespread problem. The world's best-selling smartphone will always have it's haters, I guess. Maybe if Android makers had a phone that sells 10,000,000 in a weekend they wouldn't have so much jealousy.

Several of the people in this thread own Apple products (myself included). So it's not really fanboyism :p
And the half-dozen or so you say that are having issues are just the more well-known bloggers/tech journalists. I've seen several threads in other forums where people have reported similar issues.

I have to admit, it's pretty entertaining. Apple people brought this response on themselves...they are the ones gloating about build quality and reliability of Apple devices. They said this is why it's worth it to pay more. Between this and the iOS8 update disaster and the iCloud security scandal, it's pretty safe to say Apple is a lot less special than some people would like to believe.

The phone has barely been out yet...we don't really know the scale of the problem until people start using the phones. But even Apple apologists admit this is a known issue...it is real. The phone really is more vulnerable to bending stress than other phones.

Just like the best selling OS does.

What are we jealous of? Apple's reliability? It's build quality? What exactly is left to gloat about at this point?

I'm waiting for Apples spin on this... "The new iPhone6+ - so intuitive, it actually bends to the shape of the users arse".

Samsung doesn't seem to have a problem making large thin phones that don't bend. The Note 3 can withstand the same stress that caused the iPhone 6 to bend.

I hope that never happens.....because that would mean all other Android OEM's would have to suck so bad at making phones....and one of Android's pros is choice.

As was stated, blame those that tout Apple's "it just works" mantra, the premium build, quality, etc. Apple is made to be so perfect by users and the media (at times), put on such a high pedestal. (even by Apple themselves at times) Android was always looked at as the step child since day one, even after the great things Android has accomplished.

If you are supposed to be so great, on top of the world...the only place to go is down..... If we can point out the strengths of Apple, the iPhone, iOS....whats wrong when there is an issue in Apple land? Or can we only say good things about Apple?
