Is a Droid Turbo/Maxx just as good as a Nexus?

there's only one Nexus. there is no substitute.

Camera is different, no OIS on Turbo and it has a different sensor. Turbo has no dual front speakers. It will have a locked bootloader also. But it has a great battery and is a size many people want.

The Nexus 6 has a much better radio that supports LTE 700Mhz Band 12 as well as all four Major US carriers. The Droid Turbo is a Verizon phone that doesn't support most other US carriers.

One is a nexus and will get updates quicker (well it should anyway). The turbo has a higher MP camera (not sure if it will be better, moto was never good with cameras) and has capacitive buttons where the nexus has on screen.

Similar hardware, but enough differences for me to say that it's not like the relationship between the Z3 and Z3 Compact.

It the software, not the hardware where Moto lacks, which is why with it being a nexus, and Google handling the software, there's still some hope for a good camera.

There's a first for everything. When did they make a nexus on every carrier being the same one? And early reviews seem to make it seem like a solid camera. Only time will tell.

They've had fairly good cameras. It's been the software that's been the problem. There's a review of the Nexus 5 camera running Lollipop comparing pictures vs. those taken by a current Nexus 5, and with good software behind it it takes very good pictures (granting developers accessibility to the camera API will potentially make every android device (when it gets Lollipop) a much better shooter.

I wonder if VZW is going to blow off the N6 in favor of the turbo. Seems very similar to VZW's handling of the Moto X in favor of its own branded Droid Maxx.

I'm not a fan of VZW other than the network is good, but what do you mean about the Moto X?? The 2013 Moto X updates have been quick, and once quicker than all the other carriers.

VZW hemhawed with releasing the Moto X since spec wise it was very similar to the Maxx. With the Maxx, VZW had full glutton control straight down to the bloat and ugly carrier marking.

...the Moto X gets updates before the DROID MAXX. It was cheaper than the MAXX too.

Are you inferring Verizon didn't market the Moto X enough?
