hey all, im a new sprint customer, got my evo on the 15th with huge discounts through my employer USPS...

but i just found out the epic 4g is coming out, but on the 20th of aug!! over a month into my service so i may be out of luck getting it :(

would any of you trade your phone in for this new one?

i have to say i am VERY impressed with the captivate and the vibrants bench tests, they really make the evo look slow and sluggish, even to the droid x..

its not slow and sluggish to me but i understand it was the first device released with the big screen and such so i think froyo will really kick it to compete with the others..

would it be possible for me to work some deal with sprint to trade my evo up??

also are any of you trading? if so why or WHY NOT?

no flame war here just kind insight..

Bought mine on the 15th as well. I love the Evo and need to to look at the other galaxy s phones out there to see if I would like the screen and touch wiz over sense. I might return the Evo and wait to see reviews for the Epic then decide on to return to the Evo or go to the Epic. Sprint is not supposed to have this many great phones....

thanks for the reply, so what would you do? return the phone and not have a replacement until the epic is released? how would u get by the 30 day and being able to replace it with the epic when it comes out?

i am beyond satisified with sprints service, i still have tmobile and there service is pretty bad in my eyes.

I will get rid of my Evo for the iphone 4 if I lost my patience. I've been waiting for Froyo and the battery fix of this effing phone.

I don't think sprint will let you trade up, you do have 30 days to exchange or return though. If the evo its out of stock sprint will extend your 30 days though so that may help you exchange it for the samsung

why downgrade comon, can't believe people are even considering this. I don't know about you but every samsung phone I have had felt like pure junk compared to HTC Devices.

Yup. Started a new line of service for the EVO. I have an upgrade on my phone 9/1. I will get the epic and give my daughter the evo. The main reason is the keyboard. I have 5 or 6 on the evo and to me, they all suck. I have the swype beta and it's okay but still a PITA sometimes. Plus the fact that all in all, both phones do pretty much the same things, I don't think there is anything I'll be missing. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the evo in any event. I find it funny that people keep talking about the cheap junky hardware feel of the epic. Number one, no one has even held it before and the fact that it weighs less than the evo hardly makes it junk. The kb slider might wear out in time. Big deal, who cares. I get an upgrade every year.

Nope. I have 2 lines. One just got upgraded to the EVO which I'm keeping. The other is another line due for upgrade - that will be the Epic. :)

Nope. Not gonna happen here.

The Epic appears to be a pretty solid phone, but the question you should ask yourself is what exactly about it appeals to you more than the Evo? If it is the slider keyboard or the more powerful GPU, then you have a couple of good reasons. Other than that, I'm not sure there'd really be any reason to make the switch. It seems a lot of reviews I'm reading on these Galaxy phones aren't as high on them as they were for the Evo, due to a number of factors.

Personally, I'm happy with my Evo and, even if I could switch, I wouldn't want the Epic instead. But I don't care about the slider keyboard and the Evo can run games well enough to satisfy me (Let's Golf! has been a lot of fun for me). Also, though I thought it was really gimmicky at first, I'd actually miss my kick stand!

My reply.... Touchwiz simply looks like garbage... Very cartoonish and unattractive... Even reviewers have stated this... And you cant take off touchwiz and use vanilla android so Im ok..Nice processor and gpu but the evo's is fine for me..

You cant make any special deals with Sprint.

You buy the phone, you have 30 days to cancel the contract and return the phone. After 30 days you are stuck, if you cancel you will have to pay a 200.00 Early Terminination Fee.

However.. If you have an EVO now. You paid 200.00 for it, There are people out there that are not ready to renew contracts that will GLADLY pay 400 for it used.

If I were you I would get a hold of a CHEAP sprint phone to use for a week. Go online do an ESN SWAP to it. Sell the Evo. Then go to a store or online and buy a new Epic 4g off contact and put it on your account. If you do it right the difference youll spend will be anywhere from nothing to 100.00 bucks.

If you want to go to all the trouble of having that phone thats what you have to do.

Another option: Get someone that you know that wants an Evo on a new line of service, and have them go to the store and get an EPIC 4g, then after you leave then call sprint on 3 way and tell them what you want to do and they can juggle it usually. The easier option is to swap phones online at sprint.com with a cheapo old sprint phone. ( you cant swap a device thats already active so you have to remove the device from the acct by swapping to an old phone)

I would NOT recommend doing this with UPGRADES, although alot of people do its considered fraud by Sprints terms, and actually you will reset you and your friends upgrade eligibility dates when you do it, which will cause problems down the road.

Other options: Cancel the sprint account before 30 days is up. You'll lose your phone number and return the phone and wait. You will have to wait probably 2-5 weeks for a deposit and phone refund. Then go to a sprint store and buy a new account and put the Epic4g on it.

Really far remote options: You could try Sprint Retentions, they have worked miracles in the past for people but thats only when Sprint REALLY SCREWS UP. In your situation Sprint did no wrong to you, its just a matter of preference.

Final Option: Buy the Epic 4g retail. pay 549.99.

Thats the best info I can give.

The way I see it, if you always want the newest and best phone you will never be happy. There is a very good chance a few months after the Epic comes out that a better phone will be released. What then?

I personally love my EVO and I will admit I am a little jealous of some of the specs in the Epic but I am happy where I am.

It all comes down to quality, as a service tech, every Samsung slider has had Flex Cable/LCD issues. from the M520, the Rant, the Exclaim, the Moment

Benchmarks and Specs. Benchmarks and Specs.

Why cant a benchmark be created for a UI that is slower than the Hero?
I have used the Galaxy S phones in the stores. They are nice in some ways. The screens look great. Not as bright as the LCD on the EVO but really nice colors. The galaxy S phones are really light. At first it does give the feeling of being cheap. I am not saying its junk or in fact cheaply made or put together. But it is an initial impression.

I will say that based on the screen shots of the epic vs evo next to each other the Epic is really thick. I think that is something that one should really consider. The phone is about the same size surface wise as the EVO but its much thicker. I can see people thinking its too big. Although some say that about the EVO.

From what i know the Epic does have a better video camera than the EVO and HTC will never improve that. I think the biggest problem with the Epic is touchWiz. Samsung is a huge company and this device for them. I am really shocked that they released a phone this important to them to the market with a UI that turns a fast processor into a freezing, sluggish mess.

I know it can be fixed. I know samsung could release firmware fixes for this. But why have confidence they will when they have a history of poor support for phones. My feeling on any phone non iphone is to make sure you are happy with it out of the box. Because waiting for a company to care as much as you do is going to leave to upset for the next year.

Your situation is tough. Mostly because you will have to make a choice before you can go hands on with the epic.
