Is anyone going to get rid of the Evo for the Epic4g?

The Epic has similar hardware specs to the EVO. They also run the same operating system. There will be almost no difference in battery life. If anyone here is naive enough to think that losing Sense and switching to a SAMOLED is going to solve their battery problems... well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over you flushing $500 down the toilet.

It is absolutely not debatable that Super AMOLED screens are way better for battery life. The only question is will it be enough of a difference to justify buying another phone.

See this is why I dont mess with samsung phones... They are horrible at taking care of testing their products and even worse when it comes to bug fixes...

Where's the GPS fix for the Samsung Vibrant and Captivate? -- Engadget Mobile
HTC has plenty of issues too, don't kid yourself. I have owned just about every HTC phone released in the states, and a couple from Europe, and they all had issues.

See the screen separation/light leakage, camera scratching when you sit it down, no flash when recording videos, crappy video recording quality, and framerate issues on the Evo right now. And that has been on the market longer than the Vibrant and Captivate...

The thing is, the Evo screen is taking somewhere between 5%-15% of my battery life depending on usage. So even if the SAMOLED screen uses zero electricity, you're not going to see more than 5%-15% extra battery life because of it. Which means the SAMOLED screen will probably result in a minimal increase of battery life. The Incredible and Nexus One both sport AMOLED screens, and having a spare battery is almost essential for both phones. Just having an AMOLED screen is no guarantee of super duper battery life.

No phone is without issues... We all know that, I mean lets be realistic but given my history with phones in which I have alot, seeing as how I cant remember the last time I have had a contract because I swap phones so much... Samsung is far less reliable then Htc when it comes to software fixes... I also Feel that Htc does make a better quality phone... I have played with the new samsung phones and they feel cheap... I mean If you read the reviews on the samsung phones what the first thing they say?? They feel cheap..

With htc your proving my point somewhat.... And if you have "owned just about every HTC device" as you stated they must not be that bad lol... I would find it really bad that you keep buying devices with a bunch of problems... But as I was saying, HTC is very quick to fix problems with updates.. Flash when recording videos fixed in 2.2 update (Although not really a issue in the first place).. Video recording is being fixed as well (Ive yet to test obviously because they haven't released it yet). The camera lens is debatable because my remedy is, if you have such a problems scratching your camera lense stop setting ur phone down on the camera lens lol... It has a kickstand, u can turn ur phone upside down or simply get a case... So to me that seems to be more opinionated and a user issue... Only thing really is the light leakage issue but I dont have that problems but I know some did... So personally I wouldnt say the evo had many problems.. Acording to reviews also I have heard that the Samsung battery life is not the greatest either even with the screen... Like I said they are cool phones but to answer the OP's question I would not take it over my evo..

My biggest issue is the GPS on the Galaxy S phones.... I travel so much and use the GPS that not having it work is a deal breaker.

Just to be clear... the AMOLED screens on those phones you mentioned are not Super AMOLED. Super AMOLED is supposed to be much better than regular AMOLED for battery life.

1: I never said HTC was "that bad." I just pointed out that HTC phones have issues too. You posted about 1 issue on a brand new Samsung phone and made it seem like it was proof that HTC phones are clearly better. I merely pointed out that the Evo, which has been out for 2 months now, has plenty of issues too.

2: HTC has been good about issuing updates? Lol, are you serious? Tell that to all the folks at that htc class action website that were pissed (and ready to file a class action lawsuit) because they never got current video drivers on several HTC devices. Or the owners of the HTC PPC 6700 that never got working gps. Heck, even owners of the Touch Pro 2 and HD2 never got updates to Win Mo 6.5.3. I have no idea why you say HTC is good about updates, but I have never heard anyone say that before. In fact, I have heard people say plenty of times that HTC devices were slow to get updated because they run Sense. On that note, didn't the Samsung Moment get 2.1 before the Hero, even though the Hero was released first?

3: Look man, I love HTC phones. Obviously, I buy pretty much every one of them on launch day with whatever carrier I happen to be with (and even change carriers from time to time to get the latest HTC phone). But I call it like I see it. You seem to be making excuses for HTC when they are doing the same thing you accuse Samsung of doing- and arguably much worse than Samsung.

But that's not the point -- the point is that the screen on the Evo is pretty efficient as it is, and even if the SAMOLED screens don't use any electricity, we're still looking at a 6%-15% power savings, since that's what my display uses when I go to battery properties. But of course, it uses electricity -- let's say it's 50% more efficient. So that's 3%-7.5% additional from the screen, and that's not really going to raise any eyebrows.

If anyone with a Vibrant or Captivate wants to tell us how much pct of the battery use is from the display, I'd love to see those numbers.

Every little bit helps. We'll just have to see when it gets released how the battery life is.

1. I said no phone is without issues but my god did you see the support that the guys with the Samsung behold 2 got... I named one issue with Samsung but there are plenty more... Support for the behold 2 was just flat out horrible... Still on 1.6 and they refuse to update it 2.1... They didnt even want to fix the bugs the phone had in 1.6. Users had to outright beg Samsung to do anything to fix the bugs.. I also didnt mention the bad English on the Galaxy line.. Come on now bad english... lol Just to name a few "issues"

2.. Put it like this HTC has their flaws too, but I believe they are way better at supporting their devices then Samsung.. And to touch on your subject with the moment getting 2.1 before the hero it should... The Samsung Moment is considered a \"Google Experience\" device, meaning that it is stock Android and can receive updates sooner. HTC has to port the Sense UI to every major release of Android before releasing it to carriers for review. We all know that vanilla android can get updates 10x faster then skinned phones.. Which is why people now rather have more options like the nexus without any manufacturer skins..

3. Im not really a htc fanboi.. lol I jump phones like no other as I stated to you earlier... I never even get contracts Im usually selling my phone before its even old enough to take a horrible drop in value... I just belive that Htc or even Motorola make better devices and offer a bit more support then Samsung.. Thats all.. But everyone's opinion is different.. Thats just been my experience with samsung.. Ill give it to them on the screen and choice of processor and GPU.. But would I take it over the evo, No because of my experience with them dealing with their support.. As well as their UI on the phone but thats just me... Where as a gamer.. Hey thats a waaay better choice of phone for them...

HTCClassAction.org - Because HTC dropped the ball, and it's about time they pick it up!

When Samsung has an equivalent, then you can say their support might be as bad as HTC's. But right now, when you have HTC fanboys ready to file a class action lawsuit against HTC for their lack of support on several devices, there is just no question which company is worse at updating devices.

One word....Instinct............made by Samsung and the worst phone ever! Samsung has a long bad history of dumping their devices. Hopefully since they are making the Galaxy line their flagship phones they won't do the same to them. I like HTC devices, but I'm not even close to being a fanboy. I'd be just as happy with a phone made by LG if it did what the Evo does.

Update May 27: Samsung Behold II not Getting 2.x – Legal Action Being Considered | Androidheadlines.com

Lol dont worry its coming lol... Just going to take a little time and they make nowhere near as many devices as HTC.. Their support should be better given the amount of phones they release but its not... That is all...

None of that compares to what HTC has done over the years. Again:
HTCClassAction.org - Because HTC dropped the ball, and it's about time they pick it up!

Read through that. And keep in mind, that doesn't even cover the PPC-6600 never getting the EVDO update, the PPC-6700 never getting the GPS update, the Touch Pro 2 not getting WinMo 6.5 until it was obsolete, the Touch Pro 2 and HD2 never getting WinMo 6.5.3 updates, the Touch Pro never getting WinMo 6.5 update, the list goes on and on.

Tell me this- besides the Evo getting 2.2 (which shocked everyone that it happened so fast) can you name a time when HTC EVER gave a timely update? I honestly can't think of one single time. I CAN say the Samsung Moment got Android 2.1 before the Hero, even though the Hero was released first so it should have been updated first.

Yes, the Instict was a POS. HTC has also made plenty of POS phones. That is not the debate here. The debate here was if HTC is good about updating their phones or not. As a long time HTC user, I can tell you that no, they are not good about updating them. They got this Evo update out quick, and that is the first time I can ever recall them updating a device so quickly. The PPC-6600 and PPC-6700 never even got OS upgrades. It had to be a huge slap in the face of HTC when videos of PPC-6600's running WinMo 6.5 started popping up on youtube even though HTC killed all support with the device still running PPC 2003 OS.

Like I said, I love HTC phones. But lets not pretend that HTC is good about updating or providing support- they are not. If they were, sites like xda and ppcgeeks would have never grown into the communities they are today.

The Behold may be a "Google Experience" phone, but I believe all the Galaxy S phones and the Epic are getting the TouchWiz UI. Regardless, HTC has somehow managed to push out Froyo to devices just 2 months after it went Gold Master, not 7 months. Motorola still had to use a similar timeframe to get it working with Droid classic.
