is it true that all reviews have shown the Pixel XL to have no damage after underwater for 30 mins?

I have not been able to find one where the reviewer reported any water damage.... I guess this is good news, but I'm just wondering why Google doesn't advertise this fact?

I've seen a few and none have been damaged.

Water damage isn't always a "right now" issue. Corrosion can be a time thing. If it doesn't have the rating no way I would test it. While I guess a manufacturer could opt to not have it tested; given the massive whining on the forums about IP67..etc my guess is Google isn't going to side step this; meaning you are taking your chances ignoring the IPSEC rating.

They very gently place it in water. The sheer force of "dropping" something in water I imagine would make a huge difference BC water would be pushed into the phone. A bowl of water has zero pressure. I wish they would at least use a kiddie pool but these guys don't really want to test it under pressure BC they'd have to fix it with their own $$

The video I saw of a guy who had his Pixel in water for half an hour showed that the phone was fine but the camera was screwed up. All cloudy and dark, but then I can't imagine a scenario in which my phone would be submerged for that long unless I was, and since I don't swim for that long at a time, I would probably have bigger problems than my phone.

I've seen videos where the phone was submerged in (shallow) water for up to an hour and they came out ok. It's far from recommended behaviour though, but if you drop it in a sink you might well be ok. I commonly use my nexus 5x for short periods (less than a couple of minutes) in light to moderate rain and once poured a can of coke over the 5x and a logitech keyboard (not intentionally) and the 5x is still working perfectly (the logitech keyboard lost half it's back lighting and a couple of keys).

Considering the Pixels are rated at IP53 which is at least splash proof, you should be fine with light exposure to water but it's always going to be something to avoid if possible - but as long as your not going swimming or using your phone to plug a hole in a boat I don't thinks it's something to be overly worried about.

When all else fails - forget the tests - forget the reviews - forget all the blah blah blah - use your phone of choice and enjoy it.
Is there a test for common sense anywhere?

Given it was rated IP53, it is safe to say that Pixel can manage to hold up to 15 minute to 30 minute submerged in water. But that the limit, most video I saw after 30 minute usually the camera, speaker or the screen was starting to malfunction.

Suffice it to say that despite having only an IP53 rating, it appears that the Pixels are pretty secure against the accidental water exposures most people are concerned about. If someone is foolish enough to go snorkeling with their phone, even with an IP68 rating, I hope they never have an issue - but I hope they also aren't surprised when the OEM refuses to warranty it then or later down the road if there's any evidence of water damage internally.

Do u have a proof video to show that the pixel camera and screen malfunction after 30 min???
And here is the 1 hr submerge pixel video. Except the speaker everything works fine..

The speaker grill is made of cloath so I can understand why the sound was distorted

Can u share that video? Because I call it claim bs. If below video is what u r pointing out then I watched the whole video and the phone has no issue after 30 min

So far it seem most of the video that posted online had shown that the phone had submerge more than 30 minute and above. But none of them showing any problem during that 30 minute, which is why it is safe to say that the phone manage to withhold itself within that 30 minute.

The same review guy has an updated video. He also does a tear down to dry/clean up the camera area & some corrosion near the battery.

I suspect the muffled sound was because the speaker area behind the clutch was retaining water that couldn't quickly drain through semi-porous cloth in the teardown it didn't appear he did anything with the speaker, and it sounded fine afterwards, so I suspect that water simply drained out evaporated out.

Yeah, as others have said, damage sometimes comes later, or sometimes you just get lucky. So if it does get dunked in water you may get off fine, or you might not and your speaker might stop working or something.

I'll be satisfied if i just dont have to worry about it if it gets rained on or if i have wet hands and am using it.
