Is the Note 9 the last Note to have a notification light?

Very much like the GS9 series was the last to have a notification light. It just dawned on me that it would seem likely to me that the notification light is also gone on the Note 10.

Sometimes I take for granted how much I do use the notification light, even if I have my Always On Display activated. I have it blink a certain color when text messages come in so I know without looking at the phone (and the AOD will not always show that notification if I have more than 4 notifications). It helps me distinguish message notifications vs other notifications easily.

It was also easy to see from a distance that charging was complete.

Was I too spoiled with that light? Do others find much use of it as well? Was it just impossible to have some sort of notification light with the Infinity O display? Maybe next to the ear speaker... or maybe a ring around the camera hole?

I guess it's considered a relic like the infrared blaster.

That's not going to be the same to people used to the little LED in the corner. Another "let's fix what isn't broken" move on Samsung's part.

It is the only way to make it work with full frontal display. You can always buy something else if you're unhappy.

I can't stand using a phone without the indicator light. Aod just doesn't cut it for me. Looks like this phone will be my last upgrade for awhile.

Many of us went with Galaxy S and Notes because they pretty much had everything. Buying something else may get the LED back, but will most likely sacrifice other things. It's just a shame to see features getting dropped just to squeeze a little more screen to phone ratio. Camera hole punch lighting may be an acceptable alternative - I'll definitely look for it on the Note 10 (Note X). The situation with the LED is not the end of the world, but it is a disappointment for those of us that have relied on it as a convenience for many years. It's actually one of a handful of features on my "short list" that brought me to Samsung in the first place when I moved from BlackBerry to Android.

How different would it be? It's just a circle that's flashing and not a dot. Of course we'll have to see what happens though when it's fully implemented.

Here's a third party app that already does that:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe

Here's how it would look:

Obviously it's not ideal yet since it's third party. But Samsung Ambassadors are saying an update is coming that will make the ring a notification light.

True, not ideal yet, but I think I could see it as an alternative with some fine tuning.

What is the big deal with a full frontal display? I get having an amazing display, but sometimes it goes too far.

The S10 has a beautiful display, despite being too close to the edge of the phone. It also has a small punch that, for me, is a completely useless flaw in the screen.

Unlike the rest, the notification led still has relevance.

That's because that's what works for you. Many are just as passionate for those other features. For me, none of them matter including the LED. That doesn't mean they don't add value or are any less relevant.

Battery and keyboard have been replaced with comparable alternatives. There is no replacement for the notification led.
