Is the S20 Ultra a failure?

Do you think all the questionable media coverage of the S20 Ultra plus it's poor sales will actually be a good thing for the S21? Like maybe Samsung will really focus, pardon the pun, in fixing all these camera issues and double down on efforts this time next year? My gut tells me they will.

I am using S20, N10, and Pixel 4. Compared all 3, after that returned S20. Pretty much same results as many others, good camera, sometimes Note 10 is better....so what's the point paying for new phone with high end camera that sometimes takes pictures worse then old phone and worse then Pixel? I would love to pay for upgrade, not for downgrade.

Obviously you and I are having a different experience with the Ultra's camera. I am not saying it is perfect - but it is definitely not as bad as you, or others are portraying it out to be - at least with my experience with the camera, and other positive reviews from media/consumers.

I wasn't even thinking about the camera when I bought this. Camera works fine for a phone camera

It works fine but not as good as my $400 Pixel....so that's kinda disappointing. For premium price I want it to at least be equivalent in quality. I dont care about 100x gimmick zoom etc.

Yea but the phone is leaps and bounds better then the pixel. A phone is more then just a camera. Yes the pixel takes great still photos, thats it though. Video is horrible and no wide angle lense. I get it though i agree the still photos should be on par since it was advertised around the camera.

Video I dont use, wide angle is why I had to switch to Note 10 from P4....this one I use alot.

My note 10 didn't improve anything significant from the time I bought to the time I traded. Sure there were camera improvements all along but nothing like wow look at it so drastically changed from when it launched.

Same will be the case with Ultra, it's a fine camera with some limitations like every other phone and it'll be that way with the "supposed big" update that's been hyped from weeks.

That guy is an Apple Sheep so take his video with a grain of salt.

I expected someone would say this. If he's an isheep should we also disregard his commendation of the S20 Plus and his Note 10 Plus video in which he highly recommended it calling it "an excellent phone" ??!! Sometimes one hears more truth from people that have other preferences.

His main criticisms against the ultra -
Gimmick 100x zoom. - ok 100x is certainly not very usable, but up to 30x zoom is definitely clear and functional. For as much criticism the 100x zoom gets, people can't deny the Ultra has the best zoom on any phone, opticall + digital., yes essentially up to 30x Zoom - not 100x. I get it.

120Hz - he actually had something negative to say about this, which proves he's bias towards this model. No explanation needed.

Battery - Not an issue with my experience. All day use and still have life at the end of the day. This of course varies from user to user - and with different settings android 10 offers to save battery life + usage.

S20+ is better, and for less money. - that is really debatable. If you want to save couple hundred for basically the same phone, I can see that point - but for me the bigger display, and the 108MP option is worth the extra money, (for me).

This is the same guy who blindly picked many of the ultra's photos in a camera test over the Pixel 4, and iPhone 11 pro. (in a different youtube video).

The s20 ultra is the king of specs right now, processors, ram, display, resolution, camera. It really is a beautiful device - It does have its flaws coming out of the gate, (auto-focus) and 8k video, but in time, and with updates, it will be a beast all the way up until the s21 is released. My opinion of this guys (s20 ultra failure video) is simply - clickbait

I believe the note camera got better after a bunch of updates compared to when it was released.

Didnt notice much changes. The worst camera I've had since like Pixel 2 maybe. Outdoors it's great, indoors, skin smoothing, moving objects....not so much. And nothing is fixed even today, so I kinda doubt Samsung is going to fix anything with S20 besides bad autofocus

Reason why I wouldnt mind smaller S20 (wouldnt buy Ultra even if it was priced $1000), the 120hz is nice, and phone design seems better then Note....same size display pretty much but more comfortable.

I told myself from the beginning, if Ultra cameras will be amazing and better then everything else, I'll buy it. If smaller S20 cameras will be same or better then Note 10 and Pixel 4, I'll keep it. Unfortunately both didnt meet my expectations. Probably just needs a software update, but as I said above doubt it will fix all other camera issues. I could be wrong, maybe this time Samsung is listening with bad sales and so much negative reviews.

Ps. As far as comparing Note 10, S20 and Pixel 4 images. It's easy to pick Samsung images over Pixel 4 when they are shot outside. There is more color and more HDR. I like it too, that's why I am using Note for now. Pixel makes more realistic images.

Depends on what you consider a failure.

But big, expensive, and the camera isnt very good. Just watched yet another blind picture and video comparison where it loses out to other phones. This time it was the Note 10+!!!!

Those are important to me so yeah I'd consider it a failure.

It seems like people either love the Ultra, or hate it. There is really no in-between . I am in the (happy) category - but there are many on this forum who have done nothing but trash it because of the camera and price. To each their own. I am sure 90% of the negative comments are from fans of the note series.

Lol...I'm a Note fan and had every S series up to the 10 and I think the s20 is a great device regardless what people say about the camera , if it doesn't have best camera its top 3 for sure and great specs to go with that and design.

Anyway....I am waiting for update. One thing that might also steer me towards Note is the remote shutter with spen. I use this, you get shots that you cant even take with S

You're not the only one. I love the phone. It doesn't mean an update won't make it even better; however, it is great in its current state for me.

All great points. The Camera is not the only reason I got the S20. I like having the latest fastest device and this is one of my hobbies so the money is important but not a huge concern...The trade in program + Samsung Points allowed me to get the whole deal with all the freebies for under $700...
I’m sure those that are unhappy can return or sell on eBay and i wish them the best of luck...
