Is the S20 Ultra a failure?

All great points. The Camera is not the only reason I got the S20. I like having the latest fastest device and this is one of my hobbies so the money is important but not a huge concern...The trade in program + Samsung Points allowed me to get the whole deal with all the freebies for under $700...
I’m sure those that are unhappy can return or sell on eBay and i wish them the best of luck...
This happens on any phone release , Google,Samsung,Apple,lg,One plus etc.
Some will return it back and sometimes later buy again at some point or move on to another device , nothing new here .

Still loving my Ultra.....no regrets!

Coming from a long line of Notes, the last being the 9, I'm totally happy with the Ultra...at least until the next Note.

The s20 ultra is the king of specs right now

If what you're buying is specs, that's one thing.

But specs don't make the device. It can have all the top specs in the world and still be a crappy device.

Similarly, you could find a great midrange phone that is a superb device, yet it isn't "king of the specs".

Me, I buy a device--not specs. Specs are meaningless. Actual performance for daily use is what counts.

And no, my daily use does not involve running benchmarking apps just to see if I can get a bigger number out of the specs.

I’m with ya...I went with the S20+ this time and so far it has been great...
I skipped the last few Notes but may pull the trigger on the next one...

Specs are not always meaningless. Without someone willing to risk pushing things, we'd get the same damn phone every year.

Some things work, and some don't. Just the way it is.

This is irrelevant because the s20 ultra is not a crappy device. Besides the issue on the launch with the camera - the phones performance is excellent in every single area.

The only thing I think Samsung failed at is the way launch happened. More specifically pre-order. I would love to know who all in here pre-ordered a 512 black TMO variant after 2/21 and got their phones already.. I really hope it is no one.

I pre-ordered 2/21 @4a.m. and am still awaiting shipping.

I think the honeymoon is just about over for me. I like the phone and have't had any problems. It's just that I still really like my Note 10+.

I believe the demand for the Ultra was underestimated. I read that Samsung thought they would sell more Plus models and it didnt turn out quite that way.

If the $1400+ s20 ultra isn't wowing you, send it back if you still can. I went back and forth with my pixel 4 xl as well. Kept the ultra in hopes the autofocus is improved as everything else is amazing to me. I am a chronic upgrader and am hoping these powerful specs can convince me to stick with a phone for more than 1 year.

I'm a "chronic upgrader" as well. I'll hold onto it over the weekend to if I change my mind.

Well to be fair, this coronavirus is about to put us in a recession. A lot of people are out of work already. A premium expensive phone has not been on many peoples minds past few weeks. This launch came at the worst possible time for Samsung.

The point I was trying to make was that they sold more Ultras than expected, hence the shortage of Ultras.

Does the shortage seem to be mainly Carrier Versions of the Ultra with 512Gb? Seems like most who ordered the Unlocked units got them?

I haven't been tracking it that closely but if I recall correctly a lot of the Carrier versions on the Samsung site did disappear early
