Issues merging/linking contacts on Evo 4g LTE

Hi,

I just got the HTC Evo 4g LTE 2 days ago. I got my contacts synced onto the phone from my old Evo. However, now I have a ton of duplicate contacts. Whenever I try to merge contacts through the manual link option in the individual contact. When I am able to find the duplicate to link to, I press done. But, nothing changes and the duplicate remains. It's the same process as on my old Evo but I get almost no link suggestions and linking doesn't seem to work. I've also tried a couple of applications for this, including Contact Analyzer 2. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

I had te same thing Happen.. I eventually had to add one of each contact to a list, and then i was able to merge, link etc. It took a while, but all works good now.

go to gmail
click red drop down in top left of gmail homepage
click contacts
manage as needed.
