I've got the new Moto X, you've got questions. Fire away!!!

Fair point on the invites, though they are much more attainable today and supposedly the OPO will be available for pre-order in October.

I have an OPO and like it, but it is far from being as refined as my nexus 5 or my moto x I had. It may eventually get there but it has some bugs that need to get ironed out.

Didn't your mom teach you that you get what you pay for. I wish the Moto X was less $$$ since I would get the unlocked version but saying it should be less because the OPO is 350 is just comparing apples and oranges.

As I eagerly await the release/order date, I have one question that is rarely discussed concerning the sound output... HTC One aside, how is the sound level (volume) and quality coming out of the headphone jack compared to other devices you are using? I tend to listen to a lot of music with my over the ear headphones and my phone so this is a factor in whether I hit that "order button".

What are your thoughts (and experience with the 2014 X) regarding Motorola abandoning its X8 design?
The X8 architecture was the one hardware thing that (seemingly?) kept the X relevant last year. It really made sense to have dedicated cores for certain processes to keep the phone responsive.

FROM PHANDROID (apologies to AC for quoting a competitor, I just happened to remember their post):

"One of the must-have features in last year’s Motorola Moto X was its always-listening Google Search functionality. Motorola had to put precious R&D into developing their own custom X8 chip with a low-power always listening core. With the Snapdragon 801, Motorola has a little less work to do. This functionality is already built in."

Sounds fine to me. I'm not exactly an audiophile though. Not sure I've ever had a phone that sounded bad through headphones. Interesting question, actually. Any phone you can think of that's an outlier there?

Phil said "Soft touch is soft touch. Leather is leather. Wood is wood."

  • Soft touch is done well--little grippy but still smooth to the touch.
  • Leather feels really nice. It is sourced from the same company that makes NFL footballs (high quality).
  • Didn't touch the wood backs, but would assume that they feel the same as last year's wood options.

Wood is exactly the same.

How is the battery life stacked up against the Nexus 5 with a similar processor? How much better is the display from the OG Moto X? And finally, how does that rear flash work? Does the whole ring light up or just the two LEDs?

Does Moto X 2014 have quick glance feature, so when I pull the phone from my pocket the display turns on?
Thanks for answering all the questions even if mine is not.

Cheers! Tim

The X crowd? They didnt sell very many X 2013 so more like a bunch! LOL But seriously, if they are trying to broaden their customer base, I've yet to see a compelling reason to shell out 499 for the X

I have. They can have my money. :)

Flash fires in two spots on either side of the lens, then gets bounced around the ring.

Phil, will wait for your review.
Takes a bit to fully appreciate +/- of a phone.
Will be interested in knowing if the size grows on you or if it's annoying initially and that grows on you.
Size is an important factor to me.
Thanks for the updates.

Can you confirm that it uses f2fs?

Download the Android System Info app from the Play Store.

Open the app and look under "Mount points" in the Sytem tab.
