"I've ordered my Nexus 5X" (Order & Shipping Discussion)

At $69.99 for two years of coverage, Nexus Protect is a good value. Consider a carrier insurance program that offers coverage for $8/month. For two years, that will cost you $192.

Not including the ridiculously high deductible those plans charge. Might as well buy a new phone out of pocket.

You're right google is a much better company won't argue that I have a nexus 5 myself already and loved it.
I'm just worried the 2gb of ram won't hold up, my nexus 5 has slowed down a lot and I barely have anything on it just don't want the same happening with the 5x

And the other thing is the insurance is for that phone regardless of how you use it. With carrier insurance, you can only cover the phone active on your account. With Nexus Protect, I can switch to another phone any time. If I keep my 5X its still covered. Overall it's a good deal compared to carrier insurance.

I too would never pay for an insurance. First off if I need to replace my phone I would like to put that money towards a newer phone.

I ordered my Nexus 6P from huawei, however in the past when I bought both the Nexus One and the Nexus 5 straight from Google I got the phone before I gotba shipping confirmation email.

You must not be very familiar with insurance. It's a great deal for accidents.
You must not be familiar with finance. Paying over 1/3rd the price of an item for insurance absolutely insane and long run -EV.

Normally I agree with your assertion that insurance and extended warranties are a bad deal however I disagree in the case of the new Nexus phones.

First off I have never broken a phone of mine in the past and hope that trend continues ::knock on wood:: if that trend continues I will have only paid $70 for the benefit of the doubt that a terrible mistake would only cost me $79.99 instead of another $429. I generally only keep my phones for a year and since you can get a pro-rated refund if the protection plan is unused that means I will have only spent $35 for a year of peace of mind. At less than $3 per month that is actually a pretty good value in my opinion, especially when you compare it to the $7-11 insurance plans offered by carriers and the $129 cost of AppleCare.

Also factor in availability if you do break your phone. Unlike the iPhone and carrier phones your ability to replace will often be tied to how available the phone is from Google. This could especially be an issue for the first few months the 6P is out which is already sold out in most versions. Typically companies produce some extra phones for Assurion right out of the gate for these types of programs so having this could for some be the difference between having to get a different model or not if they break their phone.

To each their own though as I said before normally I agree with you on insurance being a scam that never works out but this is at lease a rare case where I feel it was priced at a point that was logical enough for me to get it and hopefully not have to use it.

Hmmm, This is the same price as one cup of coffee a month.

This is the cost of 1/2 a combo at a fast food place, per month

This is 1/2 the cost of a pound of ribeye steak, per month

This is 12 quarters per month.

So, for this little tiny cost per month, I can have a little peace of mind? Sure, I have broken exactly 1 phone screen. My GS3 screen cracked while playing a video game. It was from the inside. I had one screen on my N7 break, as my 85lb pitbull knocked it off the bed and jumped down on it and broke it.

Both of those cost me a ton to fix. This is cheaper. I will not buy carrier insurance, and have not had it for 4 years. I wish I would have had this ultra cheap option back then. Both fixes cost more than 150.

Re: "I've ordered my Nexus 5X" (Order & Shipping Discussion)

Long term positive expected value is the only correct play. Peace of mind is irrelevant. You will lose money over time paying out $148 dollars in insurance for a $429 phone. Period. Insurance that doesn't make a company money, doesn't get offered. Only one party can make good on insurance and it's not you. It's NOT $69 for insurance so stop pretending like it is. It's $148 for insurance. It's $69 if you just like making donations to Google.

Iandale you do make a good point about the availability.

I replaced screen/digitizer/frame on an N5 myself purchased on Amazon for $50 and following online instructions. It's not for the average person to do.

Battery issues were fixed by removing the battery and cleaning the contacts.

Yes,the $148 is high until you need to use it.

How much will LG charge to fix a broken phone if you don't have insurance?

We know what a new phone will cost and we know what Protect will cost.

How many will drop their phones within 2 years?I think a lot.I bet it's 1/3 or more?

Motorola offered insurance on the N6 for more money.I didn't take it and luckily I haven't broken my 11 month old phone

Boys and girls please post location/region when stating facts or asking for info!.

Does anyone know how Google is with their return policy? I know it's 14 days but are they good about making it easy and do they charge a restock fee if it's opened?

Re; Warehouse location - I live in Central New Jersey - USA and would like to know where my nexus 5x will ship from?

Thank You

CC charge is still pending. That might not be so strange. I have another charge from that day that hasn't settled yet either . . .
