Just downloaded Oreo for V20 on AT&T

Battery life is much better in Oreo

Still on 7.0 here. AT&T also. Not sure that I want to check for an update until the dust settles.

One of the things Oreo (and Pie) do is track background battery usage. Exchange is a service used to work with Microsoft Exchange email servers. If you are not using a corporate or private email service using Exchange then go into the apps, find it (there's a Google extension to Gmail for it) and disable it.

There are other options for that functionality as well (e.g. BlackBerry's Hub+ Suite) if you do use and want it that don't expose all your email data to Google.

I'm not using an exchange server but I have and Outlook, live.com account. So if I remove it will I knock out that account. I don't believe it was set up as an exchange account I think I tried it bypass that because I once had a LG V10. The Exchange Server absolutely obliterated battery life and made the phone so hot that it was unusable. I believe what happened was you had to change the server addresses that would work on your other phones but not on the V10 cuz after I called up LG and they gave me the new settings it was fine. Batteries would last less than an hour because it was constantly locked into that server.

How do you lock these pages in to keep it from moving so you can scroll? Does anyone else have this problem?

I run my own Exchange server on my infrastructure but I refuse to use Google's garbage; I instead run BlackBerry's Hub+, which implements that functionality and works well.

If you are not using Exchange you can disable it (and should, since there's no reason for it to be chewing power if you're not using it.) I do not have it running on my V20 nor on my PH-1 (where it's not even loaded.)

1. No, not that I can find. You can adjust the grid size, which I can't remember if that was there before.

2. No features removed as far as I can tell. Data on/off toggle is still there.

3. Battery life remains to be seen. Performance was laggy for a little while after update but seems smooth now. I like the UI changes. You can change the shape of the icons now. Also, you can long press on certain icons and quickly access certain features. For example, I have 4 separate email accounts and when I long press on my email icon, a small menu pops up that lists all the accounts so that I can go directly to a certain one. There's also "Compose" that when I select, takes me directly to a new email.

Also, my bluetooth seems to behave better with my car stereo. Seems some of the connect/reconnect problems I had been having might be solved now.

Dang that sucks! Why didn't they give that option to change the resolution? So whack! They even have it on the low end budget LG phones... Guess they don't want to give us everything... A shame. I might not update the phone now.

That's a good idea. Just wait a while. Remember HTC 10 users? They had a problem with battery drain.. oh and the infamous Note 4 "nail in the coffin" update, MMC chip problem...

Remember guys, you CANNOT REVERT BACK after you update.

I don't have a sim of at&t some way to update?

Nope. AT&T will NOT support you. It's THEIR servers and their licenced phone, if you're not a paying customer, it's a no no. HOWEVER, it's possible to flash the image using recovery mode if you can find the updated AT&T Oreo image. You have to use command prompt to sideload it.

Alternative: borrow someone's AT&T SIM or try going into the retail stores or Best Buy.. they are usually nice about it and will lend you one (maybe if you ask nicely).

Hey guys remember: you MUST have an active AT&T SIM otherwise you cannot update it (unless you manually update it through recovery mode and flash it). If you do have one and the update is not showing up, you may have to check again in 24 hours as AT&T limits the amount of downloads to reduce network jamming (tip: just set the date manually ahead of time).

Hmm this explains why my at&t v20 doesn’t have Oreo. I have cricket wireless and I used at&t prepaid sim card to update my V20 before.

I am running a custom ROM based on a stock AT&T LG image and an upgraded kernel. I'm almost definite that the auto-update will not work given that i'm both working with a custom ROM and also rooted with custom recovery.

I'm thinking that if I decide to take the plunge I probably need to flash back to a stock image and recovery first and then upgrade to Oreo to avoid any possible complications. Root will obviously be gone in the process.

Does anyone know if there is a root available yet for Oreo on the H910A or a custom recovery that will work with Oreo on this device?

Some guys who don't have the sim of at&t are flashing the KDZ of the H915 with LGup patche and it works

If you've never used a at&t Sim in your v20 before, prepare yourself for a few long slow updates before you get to the Oreo update!

If you want to update the LG v20 at&t h910 without a sim, they can install the kdz of the h915 with the LGUP Patch. More info on xda:

You CAN'T update the AT&T models without an active AT&T SIM... I used to have AT&T... The OTA updates come from THEIR server, there is no benefit for them to update non-customer devices. That's their policy. The only way is to manually flash it from a computer...

Check XDA, they specialize in that. I would definitely double check if you can still root it, sometimes they close the loophole and block rooting or hacking after new updates.

I'm wondering the same thing. I use mint Sim

You have to manually flash it. Check XDA on how to do that and if the stock Oreo image is available for download for your model. It's actually not that hard, I've soft bricked my phones before and got it fixed. Just follow the instructions.

Just try logging out and logging back in. I used to work at Best Buy and that usually fixes the email server problem. It could also be your email provider as well, you'll have to contact them and make sure the POP server is correct... Maybe there's a different server you supposed to use. Or try deleting the app completely and trying a different email client. Use the official app that was designed for it instead of the generic stock email app (check Play Store).

The browser scrolling problem I'm not sure what you mean, maybe you can post a video? Maybe you need to update your browser app? Try a different browser?

I just got Oreo 8.0 on my V20. It took 3 hours on a Wi-Fi signal. Just thought other AT&T users would be happy. I am surprised as major updates usually are dispensed at the beginning of the week. Today is Thursday 😀

3 hours? That is some slow wifi :o.
