Just held the HTC one in the store

I just left an at&t store and messed with the phone just a bit. The first thing I noticed was that the screen was not bright at all. I checked the settings and the brightness was turned all the way up. I kept checking the settings thinking I'm crazy or something because this thing was not as bright as I've heard about. A LG Optimus G was sitting right by it and it made the One's screen brightness look horrible. I pulled out my galaxy nexus and my wife's S3 and they both beat the One. LCD panels are brighter than AMOLEDs so what gives? I'm hoping that, that model was defective. Has anybody else noticed this?

Yep when I went in power saver mode was on and I wasn't too impressed.. Finally realized that and turned it off at it was beautiful!

I also didnt think the feel of it was all that premium. Its kinda overhyped.

I thought the feel was quite great it was a lot smoother then I imagoned. Honestly it probably didn't feel that great to you because of the security thing attaching it to the stand. I already know it'll feel much better when I can hold it as my own and unrestricted

The security device was a bit of a distraction, wasn't it? :D

Saw the 64gb version at ATT Company store in Conroe Texas today ....apparently selling that version only....they got one to sell yesterday and it's gone now.

No, that's how it was on my Evo LTE but HTC later updated it to make it possible, but having only two buttons on one, it may not be possible. I hate it too but I'm still going to get the phone..

I hope they do fix it because that just sucks. I hated it on my EVO lte before they fixed it.

Yeah and the worst part? (besides not being able to hold the phone right) the stupid thing covered up like half of any pictures I took! Still looked good though I don't have a problem with any of the pics I have seen

And I'm not overly impressed, I hyped my girlfriend up to see it also who has a iPhone we both thought it was overall Ok...these forums drooling over the build quality the feel of the device but it didn't blow me away or enough to make me stray away from the s4 even tho I never seen s4 in person ...im not trolling or being bias towards HTC, zoey features are impressive and camera quality, screen is best I've seem so far.. I didn't test the speakers, phone had zero lag snapdragon is no joke, overall great phone but the hype of build using metal was a let down..

Sounds like you and the girlfriend are real connosieurs so we should all just give up and get the fully plastic S4. Wait, sorry, polycarbonate.

Good call on not testing the speakers as well, since most phones have front facing stereo speakers these days.

Lol. These kind of comments are funny. Better is purely subjective. Sometimes people are just looking for something different if they can get comparable experience. Not necessarily better.

I'm moving from iOS for exactly this reason. Android OS is finally awesome and this hardware is killer. If it lives up to my expectations i'll be psyched.

You should be fine. A lot of people don't have the patience to adjust to something different. But at the end of the day we all do the same things on our phones, talk, text, facebook, Twitter, instagram and browse the web. Of course a lot of people do a lot more but the majority of things are easily transferable. The most challenging part to me was finding the best apps to enhance the experience. I.e keyboard apps, better SMS, music player, etc. Once you find those things and are comfortable you'll be switching back and forth like me lol. I switch seamlessly because there's nothing on ios that I don't do on android and vice versa. I just get board with the hardware most of the time. Let me know if you need to know about some good apps to help your transition.

Was powersave mode on? I saw in another post someone said the same thing and then turned off powersave and boom!

Seems like in stores they have power save mode on because each store I went in the HTC was on the verge of dying

Not actually, they HTC one still is a great option to have if u looking for a phone, my girlfriend wants nothing to do with android... From the hype on this site about build quality and screen I thought it could get me away from buying a s4...but in person it's small and texture and shape just doesn't blow me away... If it wasn't for all the hype I'm sure if that was my first time ever seeing hearing and seeing the phone I would felt different, just like hype of s4 was let down to some, HTC one in person from online hype is just Ok

Yeah I wonder why that is the case. The phone is up there hooked on a charger so it's not the battery is going to die on display.

i can tell ya why. Not to be mean (however true : ) BUT its because (most) phone store clerks are uninformed & don't even KNOW what the phones they sell are capable of or how to work them...Sadly, if it were left up to them, HTC wouldn't sell ONE unit...lol

The sales they DO make are prolly from customers that had their mind set to get the phone before they ever got in front of the salesperson....They sit their bored all day, pick up the phone and learn it for goodness sake! (Rant over : )

Samsung did NOT get to the top of the cell chain by relying on salesman who represent their phones to properly hock them, but apparently HTC with their lack of advertising does rely solely on salespeople and word of mouth... If HTC did an advertising blitz of HTC ONE, (and put the misnomers to bed about the quality of their 4MP) that showcased the features of their phone from top to bottom in ads like Samsung does, they wouldn't have to worry about unknowledgeable salespeople or poorly informed consumers shying away from their product just because of megapixel size or lack of removable storage/battery etc...
